Guys, just got my phone yesterday Gray SME S3. Hardware version is 1.5 so I guess no SDS issue. Everything checked and worked well. I switched from iOS to android, and for me the S3 is not very smooth. Especially when I am installing/downloading multiple apps at once. Anyone can recommend what good apps to monitor my S3 or other useful app? I am new to Android after all and I am still exploring. Hehe. Looking forward to join u guys.

Lag on SIII is already very improved, smoothness may not yet compare to iOS but you're free of Apple ecosystem so I think it is worthwhile trade-off icon_rolleyes.gif
Bloatware is the only bane of stock ROM and it is fixable (once you get more comfortable with Android); either freeze them or find a ROM/kernel that you like and suits you.

Hello..im planing to use titanium backup to  freeze some app in my fon..so my question is
1) i notice the apps list written in white, green, and red..does this have any meaning?
2) do i need to enable(tick) usb debugging mode checkbox?
3)from what i understand ' freeze ' will cause the app is not running thus will free more ram..is it correct?
tq so much...
*
1. Use menu key, select Help & Support, click legend
explanation of colors and what you see on the screen is all there
2. You may or may not need usb debugging
=> needed for ADB shell and complex recovery/installs
=> whether you need it or not for Titanium Backup, depends on the ROM
see this http://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-b...hnical-faq.html
3. Yes.
=> You can freeze user apps safely, system apps you need to be careful.
=> See samsung bloatware link on 1st page for list of system apps that are safe to freeze
=> IMHO, if the user app is bad enough for you to freeze, i suggest just uninstall it.

Titanium Backup is an advanced utility so there is a lot to play around with, just read through the knowledge base on the link I gave you.

Have try to reflash stock rom,
but still stuck in Samsung Boot Logo, no response when I try to enter recovery mode.

xinghuei Hmm, clear data normally not required as you did not switch ROM (one reason for bootloop).
Flash different ROM must definitely do clear data and dalvik cache to be safe.
This is a good step by step guide
How to restore stock firmware on Samsung Galaxy S3 (Video)

I suggest time for a trip to SC (if SME set). Maybe hardware problem? Some people have semi (half-dead) SDS where can get into download mode but not able to flash anything as will complain "There is no PIT partition."

But if it is software issue, they can do a full reflash of ROM for you - should be free)

Anyone else has any suggestions to chip in and help the bro?

i think my internal sd card is faulty. yesterday i notice that the battery usage for "sdcard" is freaking high and sometimes when i turn on the screen, i can see that it is "preparing for sd card...".

so i did a factory reset and formatted the internal sd card. after that the "sdcard" battery usage is no longer there, however, sometimes when i unlock my phone, i still can see the "preparing for sd card..." notification. it only appears for a short few seconds.

i am sure it is not the external sd card which causes the problem becoz yesterday before i did the factory reset, i unmount my external sd. and the battery usage for "sdcard" still keep increasing.

another hardware problem? aih...
*
2 possible solutions:
Photos and videos on sd card (both internal and external) are scanned by the stock Media Scanner, that could be one reason for the battery usage.
i). Either create .nomedia files for folders you don't want to scan. (Scanned folders with photos will appear in Gallery and Videos Player will have video thumbnails). It will always run once in a while when you have new files loaded on to the sd card.
ii) If rooted, then you can try to download Media Scanner apps from Google Play to control the media scanner process.

i traced the laggy prob for my gallery due to the mem card

it has about 0.5gb free space left, must have been badly fragmented

so i'm trying to get a new mem card later today

my question: can i just copy and transfer all my contents from my old card to the new card, and all the apps will still work?

lots of important apps inside the card, and tons of random work photos

plus, how big a card size the phone can take? 32gb class 10?
*
Yes, defrag is a good idea, documented 'supported' size is 32GB but will support 64GB XDHC Class 10 with no issues. (You need stock ROM if you want exfat support, else reformat to fat32)

tq. still, my important question: will all my apps / logs / records work if i just copy all the data from the old card to the new one?
*
AFAIK, if merely replacing standard existing ExtSdCard with new ExtSdCard, just copy the files should work. Disclaimer if you have other ROM MODS, then may not be true....

it's a stock ICS rom

Yes, should work. I have switched from 32GB to 64GB card when I was on ICS.
If removing SD card without shutting down phone, remember to unmount the SD card 1st before replacing it.

Ah OK so 32GB only available as AP set ??

Satugadget and Directd advertise 32GB but I am nervous about buying AP set. I don't know enough to check the phone properly in the short time I have available.

Just found this.

Original Shop

Is this original or is this a con ????

There are 32GB SME sets (but quite limited I believe) - Lelong verified sellers who accepts safetrade is normally safe but of course no 100% guarantees.
Search lelong for safetrade description, I have never used safetrade but then again will prefer to only buy online for low cost items.
Some photos of the 32GB SME box can be found here; will have SME sticker address at the back as well

Hello there.

Been using my Stock S3 for sometimes and getting bored with it recently. With the delayed of 4.1.2 for Malaysia, I'm thinking of flashing custom rom for the first time.

The method I will be using will be flashing via CWM. There are few things I'm concerned.

1) Is flashing rom is like formatting OS for pc ? What will be the data (mostly apps) inside my int/ext storage?
2) Will flashing delete my settings and sms ?
*
1. To flash custom ROM, you should need to wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache
=> Essentially everything will be wiped..
=> You also need to backup all the folders/files in /storage/sdcard0 yourself (to be safe)
=> You need a backup tool like Titanium backup to backup your user apps with user data (it also allows you to backup system)
OR
=> As a precaution, you can also backup your phone using CWM (nandroid)

2. You need to backup sms and call logs yourself (titanium backup or other stand alone tools available on Google Play). Titanium backup can also backup loads of other settings (http://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-b...tml#backup-what)
For basic and advanced titanium backup, see http://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-b...kup-howtos.html

BUT I think more people here like to use Mobile ODIN flash ROMs
=> can do data/cache/dalvik wipe or no wipe (if new ROM flashed is compatible to existing ROM)
=> no flash counter incremented

I also notice that my phone isn't that smooth and fast, quite laggy at times esp when I open the phone calls log, it takes a while to see the names of callers load, instead it's just the phone numbers listed

So sad,my ipad2 is faster...  I tot s3 performance better than apple
*
Common issue on stock ROM as dialer and contacts IF not yet loaded into memory, will take longer to come up.
If it irritates you that much, install other dialers available from Google Play if on stock ROM. Else experiment with other ROMS (you can't do that with apple, can you.....)

Does 4.1.2 has WiFi problem after upgrade?

My friend who used a Note 2 has problem with WiFi after upgraded to 4.1.2. Any WiFi network also cannot be connected. He has now downgraded back to 4.1.1 using PC Odin and all his data are wiped out too! Feel pity for him!
*
Yes, PC/Desktop ODIN no way to preserve data unlike the Mobile ODIN developed by Chainfire. Mobile ODIN has choice of whether data wipe done or not.

Guys... Is anyone running cm10.1 having an error "not enough memory" when installing apps?

Have 511mb available but couldn't install my HD widgets sad.gif

I encountered same problem on diff ROM before but forgot how to solve it ...
*
Try download "App Cache Cleaner" from Google Play and run clear cache, it could be that your fixed /data partition has not enough space, clear cache should help clean it up for you to install your app.

The gallery app does not store the actual photos; just the thumbnails right? The photos should still be in your internal sdcard (sdcard0) or external sdcard
Just have the media scanner run again and then the gallery app will be populated with the photos again.
