to nandroid u must first have custom recovery..then u can backup or nandroid from CWM

of coz it is....it can save ur phone's life if anything goes wrong.....well thats my opinion actually...let say after flashing to the new rom and u dont quite like it u can always restore back to ur previous rom with all the settings are still intact
