my story is like this, i have been in this insurance company doing accounts since after my SPM, when i just started my pay was very low, until after a few years when the union of clerical staffs was formed, then my salary increase abit, at first i was happy working over here, because i get to learn a lot of things.

then i started to take a dip comp science course but i dropped out later due to work commitments because the company is facing merger and i have to stay back everyday and work on saturday and sunday too and i cant attend the class.

late i got promoted twice but still at clerical level with not much changes in my salary, i'm still happily working because the benefits were good and OT is available (yearly 2 month bonus, medical benefit, car loan, housing loan and so forth)

now 8 years down the road, i'm feeling bored of the job already, repetive work, no more OT claims but increasing workloads, i think i have reach point where there is nothing much to gain anymore and everything is just repetive thus causing me no mood to work everyday, somemore another merger is coming and there's a lot of restructuring goin on and constant change of work scope (but still basically the same work), i often got frustrated and no initiative to work.

so now the question is, it is time for me to look for another job? different working enviroment might help? and i recently just got married and to make ends meet; the salary is kinda not enough. i just possesed some insurance certs only. It is advisable to job change now or wait for the merger and hope to get the VSS?

cheers

If you were to change jobs, what qualifications do you have other than insurance?

You asked is it advisable to job change now?? Does that mean you have a job offer at hand now?? If not, what do you mean?? Are you asking is it advisable to start looking for job now??

1) Whenever there is a merger, it is advisable to look for a new job. Now, if you receive a job offer, then, you have something to compare and decide whther it is advantageous to change your job. You need to have option. You do not want to caught unprepared if you are layoff.

2) You need to start saving money just in case that you will be out of job for a while.

Re: "i think i have reach point where there is nothing much to gain anymore and everything is just repetive thus causing me no mood to work everyday" , "i often got frustrated and no initiative to work." I feel your pain as I'm in the same boat. I think dreamer101's advice is sound. Job search takes a lot of effort, so the sooner you start, the better.

If you felt the need to change jobs, don't ignore that gnawing sensation in the pit of your stomach. You can't help it if you feel bored, so do go out there, scan the papers, browse the sites, spread word of mouth that you're looking for a job, etc. It'll help, I promise. smile.gif

You can actually go into banking with your experience. What do you think, fancy working in a bank? smile.gif

@Mvik sad to say but i dun have any other qualifications other than insurance certs

@Dreamer currently no job offer as i'm not sure which field to go to and my lack of qualifications

@Suet is there any job opening in banks? will my lack of certs affect me?

Currently looking thru newspapers and jobstreet for suitable jobs; but one more question, what's the difference from job hop from a big (Bhd, Listed) company to a small company(Sdn Bhd/Enterprise)?

If you can somehow impress interviewers with your vast experience, why not give it a try. Apply jobs online as much as you can. wink.gif

You had worked for quite some time and you should know some people. You should ask people that you worked with that had gone some where for help. See where they are going and you know where you can go...
