can anyone help me bcuz i'm confuse with which one is better...politeknik or miat??diploma or degree??
Can anyone simplify the license in this industry?
*
if u dont want to wats ur time..go to licensed (LAE)
it easy to get a job as a LAE rather than competing w other degree holder for Technical Services Engineer (TSE).
if u hv a license, it valid worldwide if i`m not mistaken. Aviation industry need more LAE than TSE.

Erm guys, i am here to ask a few questions regarding this Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course. I just finished my SPM and is currently awaiting result, and i'm quite interested in this course offered by Nilai University College.

Nilai stated that course was newly released and we're the pioneer batch. From there, we can obtain our diploma + our EASA license under a 2 years program + 6 months of trainee program. I would like to know the other alternate routes of taking up this course at different college/unis. Any1 mind to enlighten me?

Btw, is this course more like a mechanic in aircraft? I mean i love aircraft and stuffs like that but i'm not so much into the engine part. Of course that is one thing that we have to study so is it still advisable for me to go? I love physics related concept and aircraft, but on the other hand i am afraid that i do not have too much interest in the mechanical part. However, that's what i think only, i believe i can still cope with it if i want to. So can anyone enlighten me by giving a more detailed idea about what is the modules of the course? thanks
*
I would prefer MIAT as their student always attached w MAS. I did my practical training at MAS at saw many students from MIAT do some maintenance routine there. In my opinion, thats a great exposure and experience!!

If u do not love 'hand-on' part, then go to university/college. Pursue Aeronautics Engineering Degree...u will learn how to design aircraft, the work principle of avionic instruments, aerodynamics and all related to concept and design. But the disadvantage of doing this, u will be lack of hand-on training.

dah tau lamer dah....even before you do

Added on December 29, 2007, 1:00 pmFrom what I've understand, roughly around 4000+ sent in their applications to AK early this year, only hundreds get interviewed, and later on, only 30 were selected per batch (please pardon my stats if its wrong). That gives the success rate to roughly only 0.75% per application -- that's less than 1%!! (Before this I thought I've had around 20% chance, then later after reading this thread.... around 2% chance... and now.... "meep" unsure.gif )
ms irnii,

even if 400,000 applied.....if u ave what they want..ull sure get it.dun need cable...airasia go for know-how...not know-who
*
agree w u..if u r capable and show them ur determination in this industry....i`m sure u will get ur chance.

I am in he same boat as you.Im considerin enrolling for the AME course in Nilai UC. U will be an mechanic in aircraft, similiar to mechanics for automobiles. I also love the physics related concepts and have an interest in aircraft.

I would enjoy the theory part but i have the same fear as u as well. The mechanic part...the assembling and fixing. I dont have much interest in the mechanical part.
I always have ppl askin"do u remove and assemble ur bicycle?" "do u remove parts and assemle them again?" its some what annoying.
But i enjoy figuring out how things work.

Then definitely U should go for a degree/dip in Aeronautics Engineering...
U will learn all the theory and will comeout as a 'designer' and not mechanics...

Then u should go for American Course, Aeronautical Engr.
<Witchita State University<-- Cheapest Uni in US.>
<Embry Riddle University>- Number 1 Aircraft School in US- Double the tuition fees of Witchita.>

This type of Engr will be like sitting in office kind-Designing Aircraft. Wont be easy to find a job in msia tho.. And I blindly took this course... Did not realize that i took the wrong course for 2 yrs in taylor's      mad.gif

Nilai wont be a good choice also, since this January2008 is their first time intake for Aircraft Maintenance Engr, MAS or AirAsia MIGHT not recognize your Diploma Certificate thus a waste of 2.5 year in Nilai.

**Note:Study 2.5year in Malaysia only get a Diploma.

And if you want a degree in the Maintanance, 3 yrs Transfer to oversea school for Degree in maintenance.

UK would be a good choice for Aircraft maintenance University , University of Glamorgan is on of it. <-- i am going there this sept..  All you need? A'level or Equivalent Cert, AmericanDegreeProgram also can like me..

***Malaysia have a high demand for Aircraft Maintenance Graduate so is Australia and China.***
So, choose wisely.

Cheers..
*
yup, choose wisely.
if u r more to design an aircraft, u must have enough information on the job prospect as in M`sia currently we are not the aircraft manufacturer but more on consumer. Thats why we need more LAE/AME as every aircraft need to be maintain in order to satisfy airworthiness requirement. If not, aircraft will be grounded and operator will lost millions if such case happen.

well...if u join mas i think u need at least diploma in engineering... n the starting salary for trainees nowdays shud b RM800 with increment of rm100 a year... but u might be tied down to a contract of 10years which will take effect only after u successfully pass out as engineer... if i am not mistaken the basic for new engineers shud be RM2xxx  plus RM1000 technical allowance... gosh...i didnt noe LYN will have such thread... kinda cool rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
if u have Dip, u will appointed as AMU if i`m not mistaken. For the apprentice, the allowance shud be RM800 like u said. Of coz nowadays MAS will bind U to work for them for few years as they already invest on U...in MAS, their staff is a valuable asset!! For engineer (they called it TSE - Tech Services Eng.) basic salary RM1998 for 2 years (probation period), then once establish will gain extra RM1000-3000 (depends on Cat 1 or Cat 2) tech. allowance...Not to forget, their beneficial...Perghhh....something i cannot resist!!

I have a lecturer in Taylor's Major in Aeronautical Engineer in US, and Automobile Engineer in Japan. End up working in Taylor Malaysia....  Kinda sad for him.
*
Thats y...there is only a few number of Tech. Services Engineer (must be a Degree holder) in MRO center, but they need hundred and even thousands AME/LAE. So, if lucky enough, u will get the job if not.....what to do.

Guess wat, i`m studied Aeronautics Engineering and undergone my internship as Tech. Services Engineer at MAS. My father is a LAE. Already applied w Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE), but still waiting their answers. SAE just resume their bussiness on September, so there is a lot of vacancies. Check their website. My former colleague already switch from MAS to SAE as he is now appointed as ASM (assist sr manager)...

I was wonderin. After 2.5 years of diploma, there is a chioce for internship(employment for approximately 5 years) or a degree in aircraft mainenance.

Should ppl go for the degree or start emplyent?
*
well the choice is in your hands. If u still want to further study and interested in designing/fundamental of an aircraft then go for degree, if not...go for internship.

Let me reword that.
wwwah85, regardless of what you have, you'll be doing the training from scratch, just like the others.
Yes, it will take 4-5 years of training! Nothing less. Like tkh mentioned, you better ask yourself, is this what you want to do for the rest of your life.
Once you're in.. its hard to turn back and start over.. unless you can afford the time and money wasted. tongue.gif
*
hmm... hmm.gif if he apply for Technical Services Engineer (Avionics) also need 4-5 year aa? But agree w U, Once in..its hard to turn back because aviation field is so big...and keep updating....because it is regulated.

Since this is a thread for licensed aircraft engineer and also in this industry, aircraft engineer means 'licensed engineer'
When wwwah85 mentioned about becoming an 'aircraft engineer' I definitely assumed it's licensed aircraft engineer.

However if he wanted to be what we call in the industry, 'Technical Services Engineer' obviously IT IS NOT the same la.
Does this make any sense to you, vader83?

OTH I do not see the point of the industry being highly regulated, being the reason NOT be able to 'turn back' etc..  doh.gif  Why is that so?
*
most ppl doesnt know about Technical Services Engineer (TSE). I just share my opinion. As wwwah85 will have a degree, so i dont see any problem if he can apply for TSE (avionics) instead of study again for LAE... smile.gif Of course it is not the same w LAE. u just misunderstood w my words. I didnt mean bcoz of this field is 'regulated', u cannot turn back. Of coz u can go if u want too... nod.gif
i mean its regulated industry....of coz ppl dont want to waste their time studying about all the requirements, regulated but in the middle doestn`t want to continue. smile.gif
