QUOTE(BillySteel @ Jul 22 2008, 12:24 PM)
Hey all can anyone help me. I want to be an aircraft engineer but I'm stuck in between doing mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.Which one should I do?........also is there another way that I can become an engineer or LAE without going to university?
And can anyone recommend a good school or academy for this course?
]Thanks for the reply[
*
I dunno about Malaysia.
As for SG, minimum requirement is Diploma (engineering) to be eligible for TLAE(Trainee Licensed Aircraft Engineer).

I'm going to sign 8 years contract with a sg aviation company soon.
8 years seems like too long for me. sweat.gif
anyone knows how long contract for MAS or SIA?

should be ok for avionics.
otherwise most of the female LAE will be assigned to do a/c interior job.

avionics is aircraft electronics, so you have to deal with all the electronic systems.
so most of the time you will be stay inside the aircraft.
and the most important thing is that it doesn't require 'brute' force to do the job.

my instructors keep on telling me B2(Avionics) will have less job to do, so less OT and less salary.
while most of the maintenance tasks are done by B1(Mechanical/Airframe).
so he say avionics got no future which i don't quite agree as the avionics system on the future generation aircraft is getting more complex.

correct me if i'm wrong.
i just started my career as TLAE in SG, still a newbie in a/c maintenance.

QUOTE(wusuhong @ Nov 2 2008, 01:02 PM)
one question,so whats the starting salary for a fresh graduate from school like miat will get?does diploma or degree matters in this industri?is the job prospect as lae good?
*
For SG, it's SGD200 difference between degree and diploma holder.
I heard that there is no training program for degree holder in msia.(MAS taking students with SPM qualification)

the prospect is looking good in the future.
for now, everywhere in the world is looking for LAE.
especially in Dubai, their salary is freakin high.
with the license, you can migrate to anywhere you want.
in most of country immigration department, you have higher value than other professional with the same salary.

With the use of fly-by-wire systems nowadays, I believe the importance of avionics has increased tremendously for the past 20 years.
*
I just started my on job training, my Avionics colleague seems like got nothing much to do.
they are worried with no job in the future.

QUOTE(Lestat @ Nov 3 2008, 12:23 AM)
your opinion just beg me to differ..
with all means, i too will advise any female who aspire to be lae to go for avionics. if u think about OT, u still have mechanic level of thinking.. seriously, how much money will satisfy u? as much as i love my job, i'd rather spend time at home most of the time. AND avionic laes are among the highest paid laes in my company (if not already the highest ohmy.gif ). consider this, how many types/approvals an A&C lae could get compared to an avionic lae? yet, this depend on how the company pay the laes..

avionic is going to more important by day, like hirari said. it's already causing daily headache now sweat.gif
*
chill dude
that's what my instructor said, not me.

i agree with avionics system is getting more important in the newer generation a/c.

between, mind to share what company are you working with?
dealing with what kind of a/c?

that sound awful.

i don't feel it's awful.
SIA do the same thing for their TLAE program: ~SGD1.6k per month (increase year by year).
yeap, just like normal contract you have to pay the company if break bond.

I very very very interested to be as License Aircraft engineer did any sponsor can help me to fmake my dream come true?

maybe you can try in SG?
you no need to pay anything for the program, the bond is 8 years though.

Requirements:
local engineering degree (government uni), preferably aeronautical/aerospace.
or diploma in aeronautical/aerospace engineering from singapore local poly.

the intake is around june-august each year.

basic salary in the first year is from sgd1.6k~2k depends on your degree/diploma.

If working in MAS as LAE and wanted to jump to SG, it is possible or need something else with it??? With no degree holder but diploma.
For type rating and no type rating.

And Technician?
*
As long as you have the license and are not bonded to MAS, why not?
I know there's a LAE from MAS now working with my company.
I heard his pay is very high.

What happens when we break the contract bond? Say I'm bonded to MAS for 5 years as a TAME/LAME, then I got into SIA's pilot cadetship in this period. Normally what will be the consequence?
*
money compensation loh.
like my case: break the bond in the 4th year, SGD60k rclxub.gif
