I have some question here...
For a diploma holders without license, how much are they paid to become a technician? How much working experience do I need before I can take the license examinations? I heard that Malaysia currently recognize BCAR section L license. What if i obtained EASA Part66 license, will I be recognize as a LAE? How do someone get a license with type rating? |

Agent47 whoever you are, Malaysia in this contact the DCA, IS using the BCAR section L as the requirements for LWTR. Please don't (ever)use the word 'recognize'. It is THE standard.
EASA 66 if for the EU (European Union), get it? If you have EASA66 license, you can work in the EU. "License with type rating" now falls under Approved Organisation approval, please read the applicable AN issued by DCA. Classic aircrafts like the Fokker F27, B737-200s used to be typed rated by the DCA. Most general aviation aircrafts(small planes) are still is. As how much diploma holders are being paid as technician, I have no idea.. but since you're don't have the necessary experience, you may start as a 'Junior Technician' before being upgraded to full Technician. A such, the pay may not be much. This may lead to: Why bother getting the aviation diploma if you're going for your license, right? QUOTE(Agent 47 @ Dec 9 2007, 11:08 PM) I have some question here... Hi and salam to all,
Newbie here, from Ampang i. [Local] Female aircraft engineers... are there a lot these days? (I mean, did many survived the training years etc?) ii. Age keeps being a subject, I have another one...how about those interested to apply TAME with MAS, but without any clue except how airplanes look like Thanks in advance all, will be back for more! Cheers p/s: ok I hid the truth... I did have some engineering background, but that was like... 5 yrs ago... and I'm in totally extreme opposite end of this industry ever since. pp/s: and reading thru the above post, now I sounded a wee bit like a dumb chick and clueless... (how airplanes look like?? Sheesh..). Anyway, forget about that image. This post came from someone truly awed everytime she's near any kinds of airports, gets weirdly delighted whenever she saw an airplane minutes before their landing or during their take-offs, not to mention how giddy she was inside those magnificent big birds, ever since she's young (and unreliably ignorant too, at the time, of the actual scene behind every single thing that moves there, just too preoccupied being wide-eyed with the awesome coolness all around). Just that she isn't familiar at all with the p.c. jargons and terms, and now in a serious career change / makeover thoughts. Lets just say I just discovered my passion, few years later than the general masses. So no matter how hard-hitting or disappointing or the no-nonsense your experienced shared views on these will be, I would really appreciate your honest feedbacks. Thanks all This post has been edited by iirnii: Dec 13 2007, 07:49 AM |

Reading thru all 40+ pages did huge favor to rattle one's nerves, I know I did.. I mean, I was shaken up a bit reading thru some reality bites here and there about this line of work. I think I know what you mean when you say a girl might not be suited for this job. But as I've said, I've got strong feelings for this, and if I want to make this work, then I'll have to make it works. Right? Besides, I don't mind starting from scratch part. Even at the age 28. And with a growing liking to airframe studies. (Yes, I know its Mecha side). After reading this thread's discussions, I am more challenged (and determined) to try my luck. Although the thousands of doubts are still there to haunt me, I still want to try. Thanks Kabadi for your feedback, really appreciates them! QUOTE(jazzy939 @ Oct 14 2007, 10:03 AM) Glad to say that the AA Academy took a step further by assigning a 'mentor' instructor to a particular batch of trainees, basically to see their progress academically, provide guidance where necessary and give them advice and talks for motivation. Can be done individually or group session. Gosh... reading your many, many valuable comments in this thread, sir, makes me want to turn from TAME with MAS to TAME with AK. Especially when there's some great similarities of the company's visions with the one I am working for now - our CEOs kept saying that the best asset the company has is the people [staff], and they invest a lot in making us the best place to work (which is why the decision to leave is so much painful, its like leaving a family). So reading your quote above does made me happy, I'm really glad to find those who values this sentiment in the field which I feel strongly about being part of it.The future success for the company and our local aviation industry depends of these new generations. Shaken, not stirred, from my original plan of applying. If my application is open and read, and considered, then alhamdulillah. If things didn't go well, then I might try some more. But I am sure to keep an eye on this thread. Keep up the good work, guys. I'm sure in many years to come, when some successful LAEs emerge, they would say that this thread, and its many sage 'sifus' commenting in here, guided them to be where they are. Salam, and cheers for now. This post has been edited by iirnii: Dec 16 2007, 09:25 AM |

QUOTE(DarkWan @ Oct 18 2007, 08:11 AM) I don't know much about Aircraft Maintenance Engineer but my youngest brother just joined METC after SPM last year as trainee Aircraft Maintenace Engineer. That means he entered metc last year when he was 16?One thing that I worried is - he is currently 16 (17 in this few days as his DOB is on October) so after he graduated, he'll be only 21/22. Are you SURE? you must be 17 yrs old to take SPM. unless you did well in PTS? but as far as i know, METC's intake is usually in September, 10 months after SPM. How can someone joined at the age of 16. just curious, correct me if im wrong hehe |

underzoom,
i hope you and the others are doing well in the class/OJT as the girls, although they are the 'minority'.. they however usually perform well and consistantly at the top of the class! I strongly agree if you have the interest and/passion in this field, it'll take you a long way. The (early)path that will be taken is no bed of roses, but it'll provide a very good basic foundation of the challenges that you'll be facing in the future. In apprenticeship style of training, you'll learn the trade the 'hard way'. Follow the 'master(s)' in everyway, emulate him as much as you can and this is how the profession give birth to the future masters if i may say so.. and if you're up to it, the rewards (in what ever form) is satisfying and I assure you, there's NO regrets or turning back. Welcome to the world of aviation- maintenance/engineering. We keep the aircarft safe/airworthy! I am also moved by iirnii's posting. Such a passion towards this trade iirnii, regardless of where you are for your training, the most important thing is our effort to become successful in the trade for the future of our aviation industry. Where you are is only the starting point of your career/future. To me, what matter most is where you will end and the contribution that you have done for the trade, profession, industry and the country. Keep us updated with your progress. It is nice to know news from the others within the same trade and industry. Keep this forum alive, boys n girls! Wishing you all the best! QUOTE(underzoom @ Dec 17 2007, 06:37 PM) |
