EDIT: Except Sixth Sense, most of the skills provide limited or situational bonuses. So really, having 100% primary crew skills is more than enough to start getting the most out of your tanks.

You should have the 88 L/71 if possible. In that case, you can aim directly at the pike nose if the IS-3 is facing away from you. That's because when he turns either direction, he's reducing the angle on one side, which means any sub-180 pen gun can now slice through. Just aim for the plate that he's presenting to you.

The soft stats is very much better, IMO. Of course, the alpha on 105 is nice, but really, nothing beats the DPM of the 88mm. (Although to be fair, I didn't use JP per se, but the JT 8,8 cm has the same gun and it can drill holez into enemies.)

Dont need the MG port to penetrate their hull unless you're sporting a sub-120 pen gun. Anything above 144 pen goes through easily. (I tested with tanks from T-34-85 to Super Pershing.) Just be careful if they angle. The above only applies if they're facing you directly.

EDIT: Oh, reminded me of one fun game where I was in my KV-1. I happened to run into a noob T29. I then proceeded to drill him to death with my 57mm 413 gun. After that he say I hackz, can fire so fast. (For reference the 57mm 413 gun is the same as the ZiS-4 on the T-34 and T-50-2, 112 pen.)

That's why I said watch out if they angle. If you're unlucky, you might just autobounce instead, since the slope front of T29/T30/T32/T34 is quite troll-tastic.

I always thought Church Is can stand on its own against a KV-1. Angle and wiggle turret in between shots though.
