Summits conquered : Mt Nuang, Mt Irau but hungry for more
Next Target : Any peninsular mountains
Frequent workout place : Subang lake, puchong housing area. Frequent jogging
I just went to irau on the 3rd to 4th May. I want to share my experience here.
We reached at the Irau base car park at around 12.30pm and started hiking around 1pm. The weather at that time was misty and it started to rain lightly 20 minutes later. The rain stopped after 30 mins and the whole journey was misty all the way. It was like a scene from lord of the rings(thats what everyone says).
The path condition was fairly muddy, but still dry, not soaking wet unless you step into the mud on purpose. It is possible to avoid ankle deep mud if you take the side. The hike up was easier than Nuang, as in it's not so intense and steep. As usual, lotsa roots and slippery moss.
We reached the peak at 5.30pm which is 4 hrs 30 mins at a fairly relaxed pace. Later we set up our tents and by the time we started cooking steamboat (YES WE BROUGHT PORTABLE STOVE AND GAS), it was already dark. That's when it starts to get really cold. Anything warm tasted and felt so good.
The next morning, at 6am, it was 14 degrees Celsius. Really cold where a jumper wasn't enough. Saw the sunrise, but it was kinda cloudy. We started going down at 9 something. The pace was unstoppable as we want to go shopping around cameron. So it was only 2 hrs 30 mins, half the time of going up. The weather that time was REALLY SUNNY.
Disappointed that the Anak Irau campsite is filthy. The peak campsite is also filthy. I'd like to plea for any future hiking group to organize a cleanup.
