I doubt tats de case... as l alternate between all my players so each is not taxed too much..
Anyway.. l buy gear - to last .. durability is important to me .. l don't mind paying more for tat feature..
my first bdp was de 'fat' ps3 n tat died just past one yr [aftr warranty] changed de lens n its working again but decided its best being a game console n not bdp..
I dont believe laser lens gear will conk faster if left unused - its lite source based so how can using it more make it last longer - tink abt it.. even regular bulbs have a 'life' - if its lasts long to you - just means you are lucky.. IMO la..

My bdp80 was my 2nd bdp n it lasted ard 4/5 years before de lens started gvng prblms [ard last year] sourced de kit from de net n got it changed locally [ tat was late last year ] ; lets see how long it lasts..
l oso got an xtra spare lens plus one for de 105 too - just in case..
[aftr all.. shpng gets cheaper for each as u get more... LOL ]

maybe your 'fat' PS3 are the one that not come with dual lens which known to die fast..

i believe dust is a factor as well...
my laptop BD-rom die just after two year because i seldom use it...
that why i believe if you dont use often, it will spoil easily..

My experience is Oppo's not bad, my pioneer dvdp's were pretty decent too - lets see how long de 450 lasts.. [unfortunately, it can be a little picky on playing certain discs..]

There are many factors that affect the durability or the life span of an electrical item! I guess luck is also one of them. My first bdp; Philips, was damaged by lightning after 2+ years! Lets see how long my Sony Bdp S4100 can last!

bro, u r lucky my friend... i bought my chunky ps3 about the same year as yours; and mine konk just mid of last year... but not because of overheating or dusty or not using it for long time, it's the blardy YLOD... cant believe sony used such an el cheapo in its equipmemt, ps3 sumore..!!!

Mine will konk anytime as well. The hardware start to give problem when play game. Restarting in the middle of the game. Try to change hdd doesn't help either. Since I migrated to PS4, didn't play BD in PS3 anymore

oh ok... i think in our case, we can be considered as quite 'lucky' since both of our unit lasted more than 5 years... and possibly not caused by the common lens failure!

btw, do u watch blu-ray with your ps4 nowadays... or u have a standalone bdp? for me, although not a fan of sony, i bought one of their cheaper models that is bdp-s1500 from lazada... at least i get discount of RM70 if compared to buying at brick n mortar electrical stores in town

i have both ps4 and standalone bdp. Nowadays i use ps4 to watch blu-ray movies
the standalone bdp use by my parent..more easier for older generation to navigate on the standalone bdp..
