I don't get Rafa's strategy at all for the match. Was Chelsea trying to play on the counter?

Wenger's "aim for top-four finish" disease has spread to Rafa.

malaysia's epl culture always like that..hahaha

what i love about that game..

people that criticize us for play defending against Barce...they even park the bus..at home..

after conceded two goals then decided to attack..the same with what we do in Nou Camp...attacked after conceded..

they said that we must accept ref's decision..yet they still complaining about the refs now..

*
? United too played a defensive game when against Barcelona, so I don't know which United fan would criticize Chelsea's style back then. I know I was cheering for Chelsea, because I simply find the way Barcelona play to be boring, toying with the opposition with ridiculously one-sided possession.

surely not you..hahaha

they always talk about ruined the game..negative football..pure luck..

nice..we shared the same view about Barcelona. Possession football is beautiful but boring as hell..cuz they all like..pass...pass..pass..zzzz

I prefer the way usually United and Chelsea before AVB..a more direct approach.. minimum touch..counter attack..fast pace..cross from side..arrrghhh hahaha

Watching Barcelona games for me is like watching baseball. I know there's skill and athleticism involved, but they come in short bursts and interrupted by long periods of nothing happening.

that second GK quite good this morning..multiple of great saves and clearance..for a No.2 to come and perform in the big game at OT..that was amazing achievement ..  rclxms.gif

This is actually his second spell at RM. Diego Lopez is great keeper for Villarreal and Sevilla after leaving Real Madrid. He actually only signed back with Madrid in January after Casillas got injured.

But does Lukaku fit in Chelsea now? I always thought if he was recalled in January then there was no real need to sign Ba, I think they are similar players with power and more than willing to shoot.

I see from the various team threads here basically saying "padan muka", but the main difference was that Real Madrid players and Mourinho were shocked as well. They did not expect the red card and Mourinho made it plainly clear that his team did not deserve to win in the post-game interviews.

Of course, one can say he was just posturing false modesty for his "future job" but perhaps this was the main reason of the difference in media treatment.

Besides, United getting knocked out by a former player? That's a fairy tale right up there with Denis Law relegating United with his goal. Not that it matters since United was relegated with or without Law's winning goal, but the media and football historians seized upon the image of a disconsolate Law leaving the field as being one of the defining stories for years to come.

No king rules forever.

Speaking of which:

Chelsea will have new boss when they visit

QUOTE
CHELSEA will have a new manager in place when they arrive in Kuala Lumpur in July but chief executive Ron Gourlay could not say who that might be.

The deposed European Champions League winners will visit Malaysia for the  fourth time since 2003 to play the national team on July 21 but one thing  Blues fans can be sure of is that the much despised interim manager Rafael Benitez would not be part of their three-city Asian tour.

Gourlay would not be drawn on who would replace Benitez in the Chelsea hot-seat  other than to say that the manager has a target of achieving a top-four finish in the English Premier League at the end of the season.

"It's not right for me to get into the speculation surrounding Rafa. We said on day one when Rafa came into the job that he would be the manager until the end of the season," said Gourlay in Subang yesterday after announcing Chelsea's pre-season plans including the July 21 friendly against the national team.

"Our aim is to secure Champions League football which is important to the football club's philosophy of securing success on the field. We will do everything in our power to finish in those (top four) spots.

"As for the manager, Rafa is the interim manager till the end of the season and is only focused on the games coming up."

Chelsea fans have never taken to Benitez, brought in to replace the sacked Roberto De Matteo, due to the Spaniard's previous stint as Liverpool manager.

Benitez has said that he will not be staying on as manager after this season and criticised the club for giving him the title "interim".

Gourlay said Chelsea are happy to return to Kuala Lumpur for the  fourth time,  having played in the Premier League Asia Cup in 2003 and friendly matches in 2008 and 2011.

On their last visit, Chelsea defeated a Malaysian Selection 1-0 featuring a mixture of seasoned and young players selected by national youth coach Ong Kim Swee as the national team were unavailable due to World Cup qualifying commitments.

"We are happy to be back as we had such a wonderful experience here, always a fantastic reception from the fans. The facilities here are second to none which is absolutely critical to our preparation.

"We will be here for five days which will give the fans the ability to watch our open training and do questions and answers. It's not about Chelsea coming here to play and moving on as corporate social responsibility is very important to us with one of our best programmes here in Kuala Lumpur," added Gourlay.

National team manager Datuk Subahan Kamal said the national team will take on the Blues this time around.

"The last time, due to our World Cup qualifying match in Singapore, we could not play them and fielded our reserve team instead. We are really looking forward to it and we are all geared up," he said.

Tickets for the match, the second of Chelsea's Asian Tour after Bangkok (July 17) and ahead of Jakarta (July 25), at the Shah Alam Stadium will be on  sale in May.

Look at his "oops maybe I shouldn't have said that" face...

no idea why higuain's early strike was disallowed, and rafael should've been off for a clear handball on the line, with a pen being conceded.

Nobody saw it happen in real-time, not the ref, not the assistant ref by the goalpost, not by the commentators (I visibly remembered their voices faltered during the action replay trying to save face) and not even the Real Madrid players save for Higuain (as far as I know at the time). I'm not saying it's the correct decision (I asked whether it was a deliberate hand ball in the United thread after the slow-mo replay and later I said it was), but the close proximity and the speed of it simply blindsided everyone.

So I didn't watch the match (wanted to wake up for Spurs-Inter but the bed was more comfortable than I expected). Any highlights?

I just read the game reports, there was a soft penalty conceded? Forgive me if I'm smirking heh.

As for a new coach, what about Zola?
