QUOTE(dikara10 @ Jan 2 2013, 02:48 PM)
What do you think about this? My opinion is sahin was not given chances to proves himself.
*
I think Sahin is a fantastic footballer, looking back at his previous days in Germany, and before that (I've followed him since his inclusion i uhh.. FIFA 07 wink.gif ), but I just don't think he fits into the current Liverpool style of play, especially with the immense amount of Midfielders that LFC currently have.

I think he would probably work in a team like:

Suarez
Suso(in 2/3 years time)/Shelvey/a striker to play off the back of Suarez (WALCOTT!)
Assaidi-Gerrard (alternating with the attacking midfielder)-Sterling
Sahin
Enrique-Agger-Skrtel-Johnson
Reina

I think he'd work well in more of a "holding position" towards the back of the midfield covering the middle third of the pitch, controlling the passes and spreading the ball out to the wings. Sure, the team I mentioned isn't very physically strong, but it does have the pace and the skill that I think would work for Liverpool. For some reason I think Allen's performances have been dropping, and Henderson just doesn't seem to do anything except just being there. If a midfielder like Sahin is used wisely (perhaps like an Alonso but, slightly further back, to cover the position Mascherano used to have as well) to feed the wings as well as to clean up the loose balls in counter attacks, I think the efficiency if the team could be further improved into creating more chances, and Gerrard would have more time to do what he does best instead of trying to run around cleaning up after Allen or Henderson.

I agree with you in the sense that Sahin should be given more chances to establish himself in the team, but I think the big bosses are looking to utilise more local (ie. British: Allen and Henderson) talent which just isn't necessarily up to par. (yet?)

Added on January 3, 2013, 11:09 amWe're facing Mansfield for the FA Cup this Sunday, would be a good chance to field our young players. Lineup predictions anybody?

Jones
Wisdom - Carragher - Coates - Robinson
Allen - Henderson - Shelvey
Sterling - Sturridge - Suso
*
I'd like to see (though its not a prediction)

Gulacsi
Wisdom-Coates-Robinson
Coady-Lucas
Downing-Shelvey-Assaidi
Suso
Sturridge

Jones, Doni and Reina are all in their 30s if I'm not mistaken. LFC have to start blooding their young(er) keepers, or dip their hands in the market to give Reina some stiff competition or to replace him in the future, especially with his erratic performances of late.

I'd like to see Lucas get some game time, as a young team would need some direction, and he needs to get match fit. Conor Coady has played pretty well in his previous tour appearances, the NextGen series in Singapore, and I think he played for the squad when they last came down to Malaysia. I think la, I don't remember. The coaches seem to think he has some potential, and I think he probably would get some game time towards the end of the season, or next season.

Assaidi would be able to give Sterling some much needed rest, and still provide some pace down the flanks, while Downing is on a hot streak, and it would do him good to keep bringing the heat. Suso hasn't fully proven himself with the first team even though he has brought a lot of excitement into the team when he plays. I think the only way that he's going to get the confidence that he needs, and to shoot (better) is for him to have more game time with the first team in the league, which they can't quite afford now, so he needs the second best thing.

I'd like to see what Sturridge can do. I'm sure we all would. smile.gif

3) Steven Gerrard reminded me of Xabi Alonso. I know there is a debate on where he is best played in our new system of football but I've always maintained by belief that he should play a deeper role and his performance against Sunderland exemplified why. He was spraying accurate passes all around the park from deep positions. Super pass to Suarez who ghosted in between Kilgallon and Cuellar.

Just as he always does with England.

Added on January 4, 2013, 12:13 pmHere's a question. It says that Sturridge has signed a long term contract. How long? Also, what kind of salary will he be earning?
*
It's "believed" to be in the region of 80,000 a week.

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Jan 4 2013, 01:45 PM)
If it's true, it is pretty hefty considering he isn't a first team regular and the club didn't want to meet Sterling's initial demands despite being in the starting 11.
*
QUOTE(dillonyong @ Jan 4 2013, 01:51 PM)
Prior to 2011, he was earning 60K a week. However Daily Mail speculated that when he signed a new contract with them, they increased his salary to 90K a week. Sounds ridiculous to pay a player that's not even regular on the team sheet.

So I'm not sure if he's on 80 or 90k here. That's freaking expensive and I dont think BR is that generous towards his players. He always had the policy of "Earn it and show us you deserve it".

If he's on 80k, then perhaps it is based on bonuses and reward scheme for performance rather than strictly 80k even when he is watching CSI Miami at home.
*
The commonly accepted fee that he was thought to be receiving in Chelsea was thought to be around 80k as well. I got this information of The Guardian. I agree. But LFC have a penchant for also massively overpaying their players who don't seem to do that well. Case in point: Mr. Joe Cole.

True hence the initiative to reduce the wage bill, something that's been practiced for over a season.

But now with the rumours swirling around about bringing Villa in on loan, and several other things, maybe they're using financial power as a stopgap.

Thoughts on other players who could come in, or future first team players who could rise up the ranks?

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Jan 4 2013, 03:21 PM)
There is always that possibility. Thing is I've looked into the Villa and Sneijder rumours and this far, it doesn't look like anything more than speculation from "experts" who feel that either player could bring some benefit to the team. They all do concede though that the astronomical wages of both would be a stumbling block. I'm not sure about Villa but Sneijder would have some resale value at least if he plays well and leaves in 2-3 seasons.
Morgan has gone out on loan to gain some experience and I reckon he'll feature a little more next season. Coady is the other. As for impending transfers, I've not seen anything solid. Only rumours. I don't usually speculate.
*
I agree too. There is nothing substantial and Rodgers is not really saying anything. I'd really like a new centreback to come in to provide solid cover for Agger and Skrtel though.
I guess Morgan going out to Rotherham should give him some game time, but generally the bulk of youngsters on the Liverpool books who do go out never really make an impact on the team. The sort of pattern where, "if you aren't good enough now, you won't be a couple years down the line" seems to turn up. But you never know, I guess. I think perhaps the youngsters may start more towards the end of the season, if Liverpool are in a solid position, firstly Coady, then Morgan.

What happened to Dani Pacheco? I remember seeing him play once or twice on TV. Former Barcelona youth team as well. I'd like to see him link up with Suso. wink.gif

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Jan 4 2013, 04:01 PM)
He was used sparingly early in the season and like Morgan, he didnt really stand out.

True that the majority of players who go out on loan don't usually make it into the first team. In fact most of them dont make it into the first team of Premiership clubs. Would be sad if this were to be the case with Morgan. Robbie Fowler once described him as the most natural finisher he's seen in awhile which says something of his ability. Thing is Rodgers opted to play Shelvey in the false no.9 position ahead of Morgan which indicates he isn't at that level yet.

I thought Coates was going to step up as cover for Skrtel or Agger but this doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.
*
I guess Morgan is something like a diamond in the rough. You can see the quality there, but what the Liverpool team does to polish him and finish him as a striker is equally as important. I'd like to see Suso develop into a false no.9 in the future, if we're speaking of that. Sure, he needs to bulk up more than just a bit while retaining his agility, but I can see him moving in the direction of perhaps becoming a Mata, Silva, or perhaps even Michu in that line, if he can work on his finishing as well as his power.

Coates just does not seem to be reliable enough. For example, Arsenal have Mertesacker, Vermaelen and Koscielny (despite his penchant for own goals). They may not be the best there is, but there always is at least one relatively alright player who is ready to step into the team, someone who can provide adequate cover as well along with good competition for the spot.

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Jan 4 2013, 05:01 PM)
True that. With Wisdom emerging as a regular I'd like to see Martin Kelly revert to is centrehalf role. He certainly has the right attributes. He has pace, is good on the ball, strong in the air and is overall a pretty consistent defender. Just want to avoid a scenario where we bring in too many players and when everyone's back, we find ourselves having to cut one of them.
*
I think because of the fact that he has pace and is good on the ball, he is being used as a full back more often than not. Those attributes are genuinely the marks of a good Liverpudlian full back. But I have to agree.

I think the scenario that you mentioned is the problem we have in midfield at the moment, with Sahin, Lucas, Henderson and Allen, and now Gerrard and in the near future, possibly Coady fighting to play in the same part of the pitch.

QUOTE(dillonyong @ Jan 4 2013, 05:11 PM)
While I agree Kelly can potentially be a good Centrehalf, I dont think lightly of Coates as well. The boy is an outstanding player in his country and he has shown glimpses of how he can more than match his physical opponents with strength. I say give him more chances and once he improve his understanding of the english game and positioning, he will be such an asset for us.

Skrtel at times look lightweight, getting outmuscled easily and get caught off guard.
*
The key words being "in his country" and "glimpses", whereas Skrtel, while he can sometimes be, as you say, a little "lightweight", especially against the likes of Lukaku and other strong forwards, can generally be counted on to produce above average performances.

Anyway, Coates and Kelly are the same age. I'd like to see who wins out eventually. Coates has a lot more experience on the international stage, but has certainly looked out of his depth on more than one occasion in recent times. Perhaps he will improve, perhaps he won't. He certainly is very skilled on the ball, though.

Coates seems to possess more composure though, when playing with Uruguay. However, all around, Kelly has shown more consistency with Liverpool. It would be nice to see Coates settle in and perhaps start challenging for a place soon, given his definite possession of natural talent. I doubt they would replace out now regular pairing of Agger and Skrtel, barring any unforeseen circumstances though.

Well written. A very precise analysis. Your style of writing is a little like Duke Red. Are you his brother in disguise? biggrin.gif

I agree that Coates didnt grab his chance with both hands when he's given the opportunity, the same can be said of Pacheco as well. I don't believe he will break the pair of Agger and Skrtel as well but may opt to rotate more now that we are in the 2nd half of the season. Even then, he's keeping more faith in Carra than Coates. Perhaps next season, Coates will come on more regularly in a rotational duty and I pray that he does well for the team and for his own sake to save his Liverpool career.
*
No, I'm not Duke Red's brother in disguise. Nor am I his brother out of disguise. wink.gif

I think we will see much more of Coates and Kelly next season. I still think we need a fullback to replace Enrique sometime in the near future. Speaking of saving one's own Liverpool career in another case, Rodgers did mention that Liverpool would be Sturridge's last chance at salvaging his career after signing for three big clubs on the trot.

While i agree that we shouldn't spend so much during the jan transfer window, player prices are inflated like roast pig during CNY.

We are still lacking on game changing players. So far, only Gerrard & Suarez fits the bill.
*
Let's talk about other clubs for a bit.

Manchester United have Robin Van Persie and Javier Hernandez. Rooney will be returning soon.
Manchester City have David Silva and Edin Dzeko. (and of late, Zabaleta? wink.gif )
Chelsea have El Nino (recently) and Mata. Perhaps Ba in the future?
Arsenal have Cazorla and Walcott.
Everton pretty much just has Fellaini.
Tottenham have Defoe and mostly, Bale.

Most teams don't have that many. At least that's what I see. Thoughts?

Anyway, I'd like to come down for the Man Utd match too. Should be interesting. HAHA.
