You can use electric motor only (without petrol) if you maintain speed with minimal acceleration.
My record is 90km/h, fully electric.. but not for too long. Best if its a downslope, where you can acc while using electric power only.
So in a nutshell, and applying this to your case study of point A B above 70kmh,
you save abit of fuel cos acceleration is done by 2 motors and it will shut off your petrol engine when downslope.
