Hmmm like that I better research abit of 32" R7 see if the vga supports 1366x768.

I got a quote from SS2 shop RM4180. SenQ selling RM4998 with 5yrs warranty + insurance.

I am using 21" currently. So should be fine  blush.gif No money to invest in anything more than 32" la. Just spent 2.5k on my new HTPC and going to buy Xbox360 this weekend. pokai liao.

Hey i m using 32' R7, vga(pc mode) can support 1366 x 768 resolution. and if u 1 to switch to hd mode u need component(component out) or dvi to hdmi (hdmi mode)cable...... but it depent on gfx card also.
previous i using ati 9600 gfx card it cant support 1366 x 768 resolution, but after i switch to new gfx card ati x1600, 1366 x 768 resolution can be set.

i bought it rm 4200 last month, seem like drop abit on the price.

ATI 9xxx series does not support HDTV.

From what i know:
Nvidia - 62xx series and above support HDTV.
ATI - X1300 series and above support HDTV.

Then again, be careful, coz it certain chipset and brand might not have the function.
Nvidia 6200TC(TurboCache@Totally Crap) might not have HDTV i think.
Be sure to check ur GC features properly when u buy.

If ur building from scratch and dun intend to get external GPU, there's 2 AM2 mobo, from ASUS and Gigabyte that has built in HDTV and component output (the 6150 series). The ASUS board seems a bit cooler as it has a dedicated bracket in a PCI Slot for the component output. The Gigabyte mobo has a s-video breakout to component cable adapter.

Do you got any experience on nvidia 9600 gfx card???
cos planning to change nvidia 7600 series, seem online comparision tat 7600series got better performance on hd movie, the cpu usage lower thn other ati x1600 and above series gfx card.

No. But i used to have a 9500 which is softmoddable to 9700np. smile.gif btw, u mean ATI 9600 rite?

The 7600 is a good card. Great for gaming, and has HDTV. If u intend to buy for HTPC, i suggest u get one with passive heatsink like my Gigabyte 7600GS which has silentpipe.

I've no experienced with HDMI output, only component output. But u might encounter this when connecting component:

(1) when u boot up PC, you'll might get a blueish screen (like my SONY CRT). There's nothing wrong there. Just go to the Nvidia control panel and change the TV setting to either HDTV  480p, 720p or 1080i. Your color will come back.

if u want a card for HDTV, 9600 is not a good choice as u only have low-res SDTV out.

Ryan: Post picture?? Err..my jumbo-sized ATX casing sitting next to my not so sexy SONY 29" CRT??? haa..haa..pai-seh ler... Maybe i put the casing horizontally and write the word "Silverstone" on it...ha-ha. btw, how does upscaled astro looks? Good or not much different?

tat y i sold my 9600 and go for x1600...but i found out the dvi to hdmi pq is better thn component out in hd mode......
wasted my money to get the audioquest component cable mad.gif
by the way wat u mean by silent pipe???
cos i still using agp interface and not much of choice over market....

me too a big atx casing beside my R7...tat y paiseh to show tongue.gif

OF course ler. Since ur LCD got HDMI, sure go for HDMI mah.

Silent pipe is Gigabyte's brand for silent heatsink with no fan. I don't think there are many brands with Silentpipe heatsink other than lower end cards becoz most brand put in a fan so u can o/c kaw-kaw and not too concern about noise level. It's a huge nice looking heatsink with a pipe that actually has liquid inside. The liquid inside is used to cool the HSF and when it gets hot, it is vaporised transfered to the end of the long pipe where it turns to liquid again and return to cool the HSF in an infinite loop.

There are after market fanless HSF similar to SilentPipe u can buy (i saw some in ALL IT hypermarket and Sri Computer i think). Just make sure they're compatible with ur card before u buy. In fact, i'm planning to buy one to replace the HSF on my 6200 AGP card.

Terency and Spiller: Wahhh nice...LCD monitor!!  drool.gif I've got no budget now, hafta stick with my SONY 29" for a while. btw, both of u got the same Samsung LCD?? Samsung LCD good?
*
That i went to sri & all it both also dun have the card.....
when u saw it???

about lcd tv, i dunno other brand pq juz knw this r7 pair with my samsung hd 950 dvdp did a good job

No, no! The aftermarket HSF is just the HSF only. You're suppose to fix the HSF to the card u already have.

Alternatively, you can check out ALL IT Hypermarket(Distributor for Gigabyte) for the Gigabyte GPU card but i'm not sure they have AGP version of 7xxx series or 6xxx series or not.

ok, thanks ...i think all it gigabyte dun have agp version for 7 & 6 series
