I have just bought a Panasonic 37" LCD TV (Model TX37LX80MK; Resolution 1366 X 768pixels) and I have an existing old Pioneer Amp with 5.1 speakers and Philip DVD Player.

Now I intend to buy a basic AMD computer to make use of these equipment which I have. I intend to use the computer to surf the internet, play downloaded movies, games and MP3 music.

What would be an ideal set up for my computer making use of the existing AV equipment which I have? Would a basic motherboard with on-board sound and HDMI port be sufficient or do I need to buy a separate PCIE sound card and graphic card (AGP) and their cost?

Please recommend a brand and model of the motherboard and need be, the sound card and graphic card that is compatible with the LCD TV and has the HDMI feature. No need for costly high end ones; just basic ones that can do the job will do.

Thanks guys

If your AV equipment has HDMI input, then get a good graphic card with HDMI output which can channel 5.1 or 7.1 sound.

Can anyone recommend a graphic card with HDMI output which can channel 5.1 or 7.1 sound? I always thought that a 5.1 or 7.1 sound channel is provided by the sound card rather than a graphic card. Thanks for the pointer.
