What is the most important component to setup a HTPC? I m thinking to setup one and in the middle of surveying and comparing the component. So I can stay between my budget.

mine

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte G31MX-S2 mother board
2 GB Ram
ATI 2600XT
Onkyo PCI 2100 sound card
Silvertone LC03 casing
Asus DVD rom
Silvertone 520w power supply
660 GB HDD
Window XP Pro
HTPC software : Media Portal, VLC, FooBar, Media Player Classic
Connect to 32" LCD TV
Sound down mix to stereo, output to Audio Lab amplifier and AE floor standing speakers
IMHO, HTPC spec is depend on what kind of media files we want to play, if just some RMVB/DVD/AVI file, a pc with less than RM1000 (minus monitor and good looking casing) will do the job just fine. The real challenge is to play those 720p or VC-1 file.

I intend to setup HTPC for HD with resolution 1920x1080. File play mostly TS, vob and blu ray. In this case, are the graphic card more important than the cpu, ram or the MB?

Which one is easy. Buy casing first, get the dimension and buy the component. Or buy the component and hunt for the casing. Since it is HTPC and we want our casing look like AV style, the space will be limited.

oh hey ozak, long time no see.

since you want it look like AV Style, find casing first la. I saw Silverstone have quite a few really nice looking AV / Receiver looking casing.

some of them actually fit widely available components, such as ATX PSU, mATX board and even PCI / PCI-E devices.

Where is this silverstone huh? The casing something like this

Have you guys try to play Blu ray movie with .TS extension? The file is something like 15-32Gb. Any lag of speed?
My friend have setup up his HTPC with this spec. (Sorry some simple spec he pass to me)

C2D E8500 CPU
8600gt GPU

Using windows media player, he said some jerking when you watch is carefully. Is the CPU and the GPU speed cannot handle big blu ray file?

How about those HDMI, HTDI certified GPU? Example http://my.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2&l2=6...133&modelmenu=2
Why a normal fast GPU card cannot decode a blu ray or HD DVD file?
