hi guys. just discovered this topic, and sorry if i'm repeating or missing anything cuz skimming thru 19 pages ain't so good on the eyes. tongue.gif

i too am looking at building at htpc, but my priority goes to functionality first before looks and quality (which can be acquired by upgrading necessary components).

so far i have my v2 mce remote, and am able to S3 standby/resume my pc via this remote. i'm also able to watch tv episodes and movies stored on a server (which also does my downloading) over wireless-g. software-wise, i'm using media-portal and will later upgrade to tv-engine.

my next step would be to pick up a DVB-S tuner, probably a Twinhan VisionDTV Sat-Ci to replace the Astro box. Based on info off the net, Astro uses SECA/Mediaguard II encryption, so I'll need to get a CAM module that supports that. this might not be the most cost-effective solution to undertake, but it'd be a nice experiment. smile.gif

once that's tested ok, i might just pick up another card as well as another Astro subscription to have a 'dual tuner' setup. or maybe just a normal tuner if i'm content with watching analog channels. or maybe even a dvb-t card to support mitv once they've pulled through (rainy day backup).

anyways, then i'll wait for wireless-n to be finalised to spawn multiple wireless htpcs for every room, or start working on the looks/quality factor. tongue.gif

how about it? any comments?
