n00b question: Assuming that I own the HTPC, and now have RM3000 budget for display device.
Which should I go for --> LCD TV or LCD Monitor?

that actually depends on whats the usage oso....

if ur gonna be using ur HTPC purely for watching movies...then TV, ull get a bigger size. theres even some 42" selling for 2k+ albeit low end.

if ur gonna end up using more as a PC, like gaming, surfing etc etc... then id recommend a monitor.

but imho, HTPC should be used with a TV.

usage? um this HTPC is totally made for movie and pix slideshow only..i can surf and typing word using my lappy..

plus im thinking of using this display device with my incoming PS3 also..
so LCD TV should be better right? with RM3000 budget, what is the recommended brand/model/inch that i can go for? smile.gif

guys, ive been googling all around, and i found a numerous setting on playing the MKV files..
and i tried those settings, which results sometimes ok, sometimes worst than before.

basically im using a VLC to play them, but ive found that the integrated ffdshow does not utilize the dual core..
right now i am tweaking the Media Player Classic Home Cinema with CoreAVC rclxub.gif

so i hope u guys can share the most optimized setting here..
my hardware is like the following:

Intel E7200
Biostar TP43-HP
Gainward HD4850GS
Kingston 2GBx2
Dell S2409W 24" 1920x1080 HD

thx in advance and happy new year smile.gif

why do you need CoreAVC when you have 4850?

i just downloaded the Media Player Classic Home Cinema and Cyberlink PowerDVD 8..
looks like finally both cores are utilized, rather than using vlc last time, which made my 1 core left idle biggrin.gif

Check a few pages back for the guides I posted on how to turn on DXVA for MPC-HC. I don't think PowerDVD can do MKVs.

agreed, my PowerDVD 8 cannot play the MKV files..so i use the MPC-HC instead smile.gif
