if you use passive cooling PSU and GC , and also fanless Scythe Ninja on a Sempron / Athlon 64, and low dba casing fans... you should be able to reach near noiseless on HTPC or any PC setup for that matter.

QUOTE(vey99 @ Jun 28 2006, 06:53 PM) My rig: You can find your answer here:PSU : OK very silent GC: Low end Ati 1300, very silent HSF: Zalman 9500@ 1400RPM, silent Case Fan: Vantec 92mm@1800RPM, silent Basically the noise is from my HSF and CaseFan. HSF is tricky cos my Pentium D 830 is hot momma. May consider replacing it How to get really silent case fan? Is there a way for me to lower the speed of my current case fan? Undervolting? http://www.silentpcreview.com/ |

AM2 would be a better choice if you are selecting between these 2 only. But it'll be best if you can get hold of MoDT mobo and Yonnah proc. They are much quieter and great energy saver without impacting performance. But not cheap though

QUOTE(ryansia @ Jun 30 2006, 12:08 AM) thanks dude.... Because s939 is going obsolete starting next year, AMD is planning to cut off production for a few models. So keeping a s939 mobo is a bit useless after next year, AM2 on the other hand might still be existing until 2009 or more. The same goes to the memory parts, DDR2 is replacing DDR production lines at a rapid pace. A64 is kinda cheap at this moment........ what's the main advantage of AM2 besides DDR2 for HTPC point of view? Wait till next month end , and you can get a lot more cheaper AMD processors after Intel's Conroe release. |

QUOTE(ryansia @ Jun 30 2006, 12:34 AM) 4. when you try to court a pretty gal and you know that she may potentially to be a noisy one, you wouldn't care taht much just to get hold of her........after you have "tried" her then you will start thinking whether you wanna live with it, or to make her quiet or to ditch her....LOL 4. Well said LOL5. Slot it into the PCI riser....kekekeke can even use 2 tuners.... 5. Better leave one of it for your soundcard And how much was it actually? |

well ciputra, I would appreciate if you learn how to quote everyone that you want to reply into one post. That would make reading easier for others and not hog up the latest page with mostly your name.
You just need to click the "+Quote" on every post you want to reply then click "Morer Options" button to have them stack up nicely in quotes. OK now back to some HTPC question, actually I would want to know how fast would a Windows MCE turns on start up?? Would it be as fast as your normal DVD player? |

I am going to treat my Centurion 5 as a HTPC soon
Now I just need to see if I can plug in a dual core, so it's great to do some video editing ... somehow it's rather hard to find s939 dual core in Penang. |

QUOTE(ryansia @ Mar 16 2007, 10:58 AM) if i'm not wrong, RTM is adopting DVB-T and the trial is only at Klang Valley. there are some hybrid card out there with DVB-T, has anuone tried ? but again, what's the point investing on a digital tv card just for RTM (crappy channels)??? i don't mind if 8tv and NTV7 are broad casting digitally. LOL the main question should be , why is RTM adopting DVB-T , when everyone (including their own staff) agrees that it's a crappy channel?? Man.. they just like wasting money |
