I also want this type of cassette air-con in the living room which I think can cool both living room and dining area given enough hp, but from LYN forumers andl contractors adviced against this. They said difficult to maintain/service and might dirty the plaster ceiling.

Hi Rick,

Cassette type air-cond is suitable for those that have high ceiling as it required at least 1ft high to install.
As from the design itself cassette can distribute cold air more even if compare with wall mounted.
Beside that it will also make your entire area look neat.

As for the servicing wise you can wash the filter easily by taking out the return filter cover. We do not deny that chemical service will have a lot work to do as you need to dismantle down the job. But so far i have did a lot chemical service and didnt face any problem.

Regards

Thank you very much cfpang2000 for your advices and photos. Have to measure my ceiling before I can decide whether to use cassette air-con or not.

By the way, from the 1st photo, why is the drain piping bent upward instead of straight? Won't that stop the water from draining away?

Thanks Weikee. Just kepo, won't a flexible/bendable 'hose' type of piping better? Like those used for water heater.

Cassette type cost almost double the wall mounted units as the airflow is 4 way whereas wall mounted is 1 way only.

Hi Rick,

The reason for locate the drain pipe a bit higher is to create a gradient for the drain pipe in order for the water to flow smooth. We are not going to used flexible hose for drain pipe as the water will stay inside the hose because of the un even surface. As you all know air-cond condensate water is cold and if it stay in the piping for too long it will become jelly hence will clog your drainage as a result will cause water leaking.....

Hi Pang.

Can you advice me if these piping are able to support Panasonic inverter?

I'm looking for Panasonic 3 x 2HP, Panasonic 2 x 1.5HP, Panasonic 2 x 1HP (all inverter).

Kindly quote me the above (plus mounting/installing works only because piping already available as per photos).

If you could quote for other brand i.e. Daikin or Mitsubishi that would be great also as comparison.

Looking forward for you reply.

Thank you.

Have you size the cassette properly? This type of convertion you will have alot of heat lost as i dont see you installed a VAV box, also too much condensation on coil surface and your pump will be dead very soon i suppose as you are taking in fresh air as well as return air from the mid of cassette.. Correct me if i am wrong ?

Hi,

We are just taking a small amount of fresh air to minimize the re-circulation of air in the room. So far we do not face any problem.

Cassettes would have drain pump, the gradient is to prevent water from flowing back into the drain pan when the pump is off (unit is off).

He will be fine. With the small amount of fresh air, capacity drop max 10%. If he did consider this factor, he would have upsized his calculation by 10%. As for the RH, who cares, this is not precision cooling.

What im interested in is the air duct to another room. Advisable to do that? Meaning, you are sharing air flow with 2 room?

Also, do you have exhaust in the same room you have your fresh air coming in?

Hi,

Thanks for your comment and sharing. Im doing the ducting for the small room because the room size only 60sq feet. Beside that i have also close one of the casette outlet.

Hi Jude,

It is a Daikin ceiling cassette. You interested? I can give you a quote but you have to provide me your room layout so that I can size accordingly.
