I am sorry if this was previously asked and repeated. Its quite a long thread with many version.
Can I ask sifu here.. for ap set note 2.. how do check from.. which country it came from and which which carrier/operator?
Does this determine how soon you get the software update? I think for like htc.. they rollout software by batches according to country.

I only notice the ap set says made in korea.. local set put made by samsung

I think you can check based on IMEI and if it is a retail version in the country it is imported, there is no way of knowing which carrier it is being used with.

My unit is said made by samsung and when i first time boot up it has the German language with it, but not sure whether it is from Germany or not.

I am not a fan of software update, so no idea on that.

I have got the imei... but how to check then for the range which country is it for? Also one more question.. how to turn off the camera shutter sound? Tried to search n some say need to root?

before i get blasted for asking maybe question which is repeated a millions time.. do note this is like v12 and with hundreds of pages each which is very difficult to search.
and as i am typing there is another 3 new posts.. rclxms.gif
i do think it would be superb if moderator can help compile the FAQ for easy reference

so i have the below 2 questions

1 - any good recommendation for widgets.. previously was using htc one x.. and i must say their built in widgets is much better.. just looking for simple widget.. ie sound profile change?

2 - seeing alot of discussion about rooting. can someone kindly help to give some guide
i) what is the advantage of rooting - better performance/battery life
ii) some guide on how to perform rooting?

1. you already have a built in sound profile on your notification taskbar but only for sound/mute/vibrate...lolz

2. i) nothing except you gain your phone system admin.
ii) install ExynosAbuse apk. One click and you're rooted.
*
1. actually the sound profile is example.. any other good recommendation for widget

2. so by installing the exynosabuse.apk.. once rooted, what r the additional things i can do with it? or maybe you can tell me what you do with the device once rooted?

sorry if this is a dumb question.. have never rooted a device before

1. Widgets - it all depend on what u like on the one x that u're looking for the note 2, if it's from HTC themself then mostly u won't find it anywhere else (but there might be cloned widgets though)

2. Rooting default won't cause any different in performance or battery save, but modded kernel and rom do have significant impact on both performance and batt saving...  nod.gif

to begin with just visit below XDA thread and you have lots more to read on...  brows.gif

dear sifu sifu sekalian.. got a question for microsd file format

just got a sandisk class 10 microsd.. would like to ask what is the file format for microsd that you used for ur note 2

1) fat 32 - this got file size limit of 4gb
2) exFAT - read some say 2tb??
3) NTFS - no limt, but take up more resources and therefore slower.

based on above this best to put as exFAT.. wonder if any problem encounter using exFAT?

If your card is 64Gb or MORE....exfat or NTFS. Note2 stock rom recognizes exfat. NTFS needs some kernel module IINM.
*
i tried formating to exfat but getting error.. window was unable to complete the format.

any idea how?

What is the size of your card? If it's less than 64gb windows will format is as fat32. Unless your card has developed a problem.

If you format it in your phone I think it will also default based on size, <64 is fat32, >=64 is exfat

Oh yeah, @ccgenius reply, if you are on XP, you will need the SDXC driver update. It should be built in on Win7 and later.

And also, some readers DO NOT support exfat even after the SDXC update.
*
Thanks guys.. is the windows problem.. using windows xp and need to download the exfat windows update and am able to format already to exfat...

lol... the 4 pieces is phone, battery, back cover and the nillkin hard case.  tongue.gif   It landed on the back flat on the floor and bounced a bit - so everything underneath the phone just been ejected.  rclxub.gif
*
yes right... forgotten about the battery.. hehe. was wondering how did it go 4 pieces..

therein lies the rub. these are ALL MARKETED AS CASES.  so nilkin is a back cover accessory and not a case. remember nokia xpress-on covers?

flip cases are cases although it still leaves the top n bottom edges exposed.

Trust a marketer? use yr own brain?
*
yeah.. flip case expose to top and bottom frame..

i wonder how about the screen glass.. by right it shouldnt be so easy to break.. cuz its gorilla glass right..

i think it depends very much what do the users expect from the case.  I am using Nillkin hard case and i do not expect it to protect my Note II from drop test.  I keep it (originally only intended to get it for temporary use) mainly for its nice texture at the back, preventing scratch on the shiny back cover and lift the back camera lens to prevent scratch.  Add on a neoprene case when it is in my pocket to make sure not even a tiny specks of silica can get close to it.

those using hard case like Nillkin and expect it to protect their Note II in a drop test is having unrealistic expectation out the case.  Get a Otterbox or Case-mate Tough for drop test.  biggrin.gif
lol.... totally owned... blink.gif  but i think some maxis outlet do keep the list and inform their waiting customers in the list.  But should be quite rare.
*
actually they do have waiting list in KLCC as i know.. but u might still be able to get if you walk in.. ie.. contacted customer to come and collect but cust cant make it..
