What a suprise...

No one talk about GP2X... and yet lots of people use emulators to play retro games..
Its development in homebrew software are far much faster than PSP...

Can PSP ever play Metal Slug 5 or King Of Fighter 2003?
I don't think its ever possible because of memory limitation...

Sony will keep pushing new firmware... with protection against homebrew software...
So if you are playing retro games ... consider GP2X...

I'm happy with my GP2X.... its light (fit in my pocket), uses AA batteries... , play all my Xvid videos.. , with built in TV-Out... , play OGG.. and can support 2Gb SD card...

No Wireless ... is one bad point... but i think GPH will make one soon... when they sees the market...

GP2X uses linux OS.. and most linux apps can be ported to run in GP2X...
PSP uses Sony proprietary OS.. UMD is really a bad idea... why can't they just use a protective SD card instead of UMD.. save energy and smaller PSP... and why can't they use SD card instead of Memory Stick ... Open Standard...

NDS is different... its games is nice ... i rather buy NDS than PSP...

I don't work for GPH... just sharing my comments on handheld console...

Caters to different markets, i guess. If you are looking for a console tat is supported by the community, gP2x is probably a good buy. I am assuming most of the apps and games are free since it seems to function pretty much like the phpforum community.

I am pretty much a guy who looks at a product and ask if the bigger gaming companies will support the console. If not, I probably wouldnt get it. I am not a big fan of emulators anyway.

Just to address some points on PSP:
1. SD card is open standard but its Sony policy to use Memory Stick for all their products. It would be really dumb to develop your open memory drive and then open all your products to competitors..

2. UMD is not that bad, and the screen rite now is kinda the reason the PSP is at that size...since we have that space, why not make a UMD slot? And they are trying to stop homebrew, which is sad case because homebrew apps are really good. Just that certain people tend to exploit homebrews as mean for piracy

Btw, isnt the GP2X kinda pricey?

You can get it from play-asia.com

Total cost is USD 169.00 + USD 19.90 + RM 170 (custom tax) ...
If you go to hongkong.. u can get one from lik-sang... or play-asia..

I wish the GP2X can play multiplayer neogeo games.... like metal slug 5 ...
that will kick PSP a**.

Metal Slug 3 rocks (full speed at 266mhz GP2X) ... haven't play metal slug 5 yet... though

but the batteries are cheap... and u can keep a few set...
My panasonic 2500Mah can last for about 2 hours .. just enough for a movie
its a trade off... between accessibility and long lasting... lithium are longer lasting.. but pricey... NiMH are cheaper not long lasting...

True but have to carry a lot of batteries. It seems that the price is not that cheap compared to PSP.

Me think it's an absolute waste of money. Emulators?? XBOX can do. PC can do.

if it's like RM200 maybe can buy for fun, but at that pirce, better get a PSP or DS.

Ermm GP2X is more like a PMP for me..... most of the homebrew games r suck in graphic lolz no offense. But if u really want to talk about games, go back to PSP or NDS. Perhaps, NDS is getting more and more attractive since they have opera browser which i like it so much..... unfortunately i have to stick back to my psp..... Anyway, there was a rumor saying that sony will be releasing PSP2 wif built-in 4GB storage and camera...... how sad it could be for those PSP owner like me....
