I have seen this kind of filter being used and on sale

However I want the mesh material itself as I want to attach the mesh to my casing instead. any ideas of a similar material or alternative to filter dust.

he seems to be selling the prefitted mesh for 120mm, 80mm fans. I just want the mesh material to diy.

mosquitoe net is the closest thing u can get... but the holes are still pretty big.. best u can do is putting multiple layers of the net... placing them properly to make the hole a lil smaller etc

as long as theres space for air to pass through sure can... if u cover up all the space then diff story la.. hahahahah

anyway....multiple layers maybe 2-3 max should be enough me thinks

I guess that is what I would do. Trying to find the finest mesh.
