hmmm.. have you throughly tested it with cinavia enabled disc for a minimum of 40 minutes?

the version .615 only applies to 2011 models eg. S380, S485, S480

BDP-S490 is a 2012 model.

Firmware version = M12.R.0369 for S490 could be cinavia compliant.

BDP-S390 Cinavia version is (fw: M11.R.0147 or higher)

BDP-S590 Cinavia version is BDP-S590 (fw: M11.R.0320 or higher)

http://blog.dvdfab.com/cinavia-protection.html#

The only 3D capable blu-ray player non-cinavia that that i know, is still in the market is S485, but with inflated price.

But not according to S490 manual, look into page 5 about cinavia compliant. The manual is from Malaysia's Sony.
and yes the S490 has cinavia.

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:...SRpANgn8p6DKLzw

The S490 and S590 share the same firmware versions no.

Added on December 26, 2012, 6:14 pmSo far not many titles are cinavia infected yet.

ALL blu-ray players released after feb 2012 are cinavia compliant.

Some pioneer bdp can be made cinavia free by tampering/hacking the firware to chinese version (custom but NOT FREE), this however will void your warranty, there is no garantee that it will work 100%, do at own risk.

A bit misleading there nod.gif

NOT ALL x50 Pioneers per se, but only certain retailers that carries the MOD / chip.

THIS UNIT HAS A PERMANENT HARDWARE MODIFICATION. SO YOU CAN UPGRADE, CHANGE, RESET YOUR FIRMWARE AS YOU NEED WITHOUT LOSING THE REGION-FREE & ZONE-FREE CAPABILITY. THE REGION FREE FUNCTIONALITY ON THIS UNIT IS PERMANENT AND GUARANTEED FOR THE LIFE OF THE PLAYER. STOP BY OUR STORE TODAY TO SEE A DEMONSTRATION!

The x40 models are much easier to mod only by using custom/modded chinese firmware. But its not available for free. Not only region and zone free, its cinavia free as well. Provided you successfully updated the hacked firmware without running into any trouble.

Sadly, playability of pioneer bdp IMO is still inferior to sony, it wont play all your bdr collection.

STOP BY OUR STORE TODAY TO SEE A DEMONSTRATION!

http://www.world-import.com/PIONEER-BDP-15...-DVD-Player.htm

I don't know about other Pioneer retailer not carrying x50 series which are not region free. The retailer at my place does carry x50 series which are region free for bd playback. No matter is Mod/chip. The important thing is region free. These will make us bd buyer who order uk bd not to worry about not able to play. It is also cinavia free. If amazon( a big listed online company) can sell x50 series which are region free, I assume our retailer here also selling it. You can imagine the bizness those who carry non region free going lose to those who carry it. These does remind the days when dvd was first introduce here.

Why is the pioneer bdp inferior to sony? to me it as good as sony if not better as it play all my blu ray disk fine.

Am I missing something? Are you referring to official product (authorised dealer) or third party reseller?

Cinavia compliance is MANDATORY for BDA licensing agreement as of FEB 2012, for the so called ACSS encrytion crap.

Region free is a non-issue, KOGAN did it openly and LEGALLY . But its different with cinavia, its a violation of BDA agreement.

Cinavia Free bdp-150 MUST be tampered with chinese firmware 4.0+ or 5+. Worked with 140/150/440/450. It has to be activated, means need $$. The reseller may quote you with much higher price for this.

CAREFUL!! there are lots of FAKE Activation Free firmwares circulating in the web that can turn your player into useless chunk of metal.

Mind telling us the 3rd party resller? These goods they are selling are OPENED BOX, and tampered with CFW for CINAVIA free. Means they willl lose internet functions , youtube , netflix... who use them anyway... lol

Tamperring with unoffcial alteration will also void your warranty.

BUT buyers must be WARN!!

When we say PLAYABILITY, we are referring wide range of MEDIA COMPATIBILITY/READABILITY. With minimal read-error performance.

What type of blu-ray disk are your referring to?

Original disk are high quality factory pressed BD-ROM, they will play flawlless in any players.

Sony bested the rest when it comes to playing wide range of RECORDABLE MEDIA or ahem ahem disk.

BD-R HTL, BDR-DL HTL, BDR LTH, BD-RE.

I had many players, but the sony S370 beat them all.

Not Sony, its Verance Corporation.

The reason why S380 / S485 are cinavia free is because, these model were submitted for testing to BDA before FEB 2012.

So they are legit for sell even after feb 2012, some are even manufactured after feb 2012.

Just know that market also got fake activation free fireware. sweat.gif

Didn't follow Blu-ray players' news and trend for quite sometimes.

Recently, my Panasonic BD60 Blu-ray player start having hard time to read discs problem after serving me for years. I think it is time to look for a replacement 3D Blu-ray player.

Just wondering which few 3D players are value for money, if cinavia and playability is not a issue and not need to take into consideration? hmm.gif

er... should be ok.. with any brand.

I'd definately buy ORIs or BD-ROM for their longevity.

BDR recordable (ahem ahem disk) only lasted around 5 years or so especially the organic type of LTH BDR, or even less when kept in HOT condition (accelerated degradation), like 35 celsious room temp. they'll give you read errors and stuttering, worst than DVD-R in my opinion. Strange some bad disk still plays in my sony bd, even not recognised by bd writers.

The reading error is due to the laser lens deteriorate. Once the lens fade, it will getting difficult to read. BD-ROM or pc type reader are the most fastest spoil. Because cheaper cost. The average age is between 3-4yrs.(If I recall correct) This told by some local ppl in big manufacturing reader.

That i know my friend, been using PC over 20 years.

Not really the lens that are defect, most likely its the servo alignment or mechanical tear and wear.

The lense can work at limited buffer range, physical distance. I managed to "fix" some of my broken drives just by realign the the round CD holder distance to the disc.

PC BD drives are FASTER than standalone players, thus more mechanicaly tear.

Just like the drive the BD-R dies too, due to layer compound degradation. BD-ROM last longer perhaps 20 year plus, depending on the oxidation rate of the reflective layer.

I think lens is covered for a period of 1 year. The player will be inspected before warranty is granted.

You can check with the CS for the cost of repair, yes even warranty expired, visit their nearest service center.

For new players, like bdp-150. If your using custom chinese firmware, make backup of the original FW. Downgrade it to original FW before sending it for repair, else the'll void all warranty.

As long as you dont screw while updating FW, you're good. Definately not for newbies nod.gif

The beauty of Pioneer players are their downgrade-able feature on their older models the BDP-140/440. Since a non-cinavia FW for it exist, the newer 140 cinavia-infected can be downgraded to the older cinavia-free fw.

The 150 models requires fw upgrade to a custom/hack chinese firmware (unofficial) with a price, through the process of activation. Those with hacked fw will lose all internet functions. It will also void your warranty.

You cannot downgrade or use hacks fw for sony bd players, they may have implemented some strict checksum sort of security. or perhaps we have to wait till someone breaks it.

shit..just bought the Philips 3D player with 5yrs warranty only found this cinavia issue, but as i know, is control by sound.

but to overcome this, change the language or sound of the BD, usually can play without an issue

I just bought the Celine Dion around the world, there is stereo sound & DTS 5.1 sound, when play DTS 5.1, only can play around 5-10min, if change it to Stereo, it play without an issue for more tha an hours.

funny huh...well, but work, so now i use the TV digital audio output to a home theather system, use the home theather system to play the sound, i get back the quality of sound....even is not 100% as good as original, but is nothing loose for normal playback

i dont think the celine dion is cinavia protected title?  probably your philips unable to decode DTS MA.
*
Confirm is cinavia protected, when using Philip to play, there is message appear to said that it might restart while playing, but using the Pioneer, that message did not appear.

I use this player for more than 10 ahem BD play back with DTS HD Master, so far so good.

A 3D player can play for 2D or 3D movie, if the movie is only 3D, than it cannot, if the movie is 3D+2D or only 2D, than it can play so long your TV got HDMI input.

Sorry for the confusion. I think is should put this in earlier. My player is connect to the AV processor with HMDI. AV processor output to TV with HDMI. Now my old BD player is not 3D supported. So now, if I get a new player with 3D and connect as what I am doing now will not work. The problem is my processor is not 3D supported.

You can direct connect to the tv then from the tv the sound can be transfer to the receiver if your tv can support. Else get a bd player with 2 hdmi output.

If use ARC with HDMI from TV will it be able to support trueHD and DTS-MA ? Thanks for the suggestion. 2 HDMI output player is quite expensive. That is why I am thinking of changing my processor instead.

easy, check if your avr has got any coaxial in or optical in or not which i think all avr should hv at least 1 if not 2. Then buy a 3D player which also hv either coaxial out or optical out. Connect the 3D player directly to the TV via hdmi for picture display and for the audio, connect to the avr using either coaxial or optical. coaxial/optical will carry all audio signals to your avr

Not sure. That's what I found out the branded cheapest 2 HDMI output player.. Not sure how cheap only then considered cheap. Only if the player came out in the market earlier, then I won't need to upgrade the AVR..

Ya, that's the one. I think one forumer here bought one and said it is Cinavia-free and I also read somewhere (cannot remember where now). So please be a Good Samaritan, go and buy one and confirm for the benefit of all of us here. notworthy.gif Think it is also region-free as a bonus! As for the Home Theatre playing ahem BD, not all BD titles are Cinavia protected, mostly Sony titles. Also Cinavia protection is mainly on the English soundtrack so if you watch in other languages, it may not be there. I could be wrong though.
