Hi guys, just got my PS3 @ lowyat plaza. While bargain for the best price, the seller suddenly take out a cheapo HDMI cable which can easily get it for probably less than 50 bucks @ any IT shop and they going to charge me for 90 bucks. While persuading me to get the cable, the seller told me that if i use any HDMI cable other than sony official HDMI cable, the HDMI port will get burned down easily and sony doesn't cover it. So im curious, do i really need a HDMI cable to play my PS3?

feel free to share any thoughts about.. if u do not wish to, simply vote for yes or no..

Too much bullshit. You can just use any HDMI cable. Don't buy those expensive HDMI cables.

HDMI transmits data therefore the quality is the same; cheap vs expensive.

It's just like your Ethernet cable. If the cable is cheap you won't get blurry webpages right? hahaha

I used a RM 29 HDMI and it works great.

yeah, thats what i thought about too.. the boss 1st took out some cheapskate hdmi cable and trying to sell it for 90 bucks, after that he took out another slightly better packing and trying to sell me for 300 bucks saying its monster brand quality..

erm, i think they selling psp jack sparrow games as i saw 1 catalogue.. but ps3 not sure. bought 160gb sg set, rm700.. duno got conned or not..

now trying to recall back, i think they bullshit me a lot.. 1st they said after registering the psn, i need to wait for 7-14 days then only can download demo from psn.

You should stop dealing with the seller and forget all the technical facts you are told.

go get rm15 at tesco..really worth buying..
and if u buy ps3 from sony centre nowadays also can have original sony HDMI cable..

they are bullshitting about the HDMI cable, but RM700 is probably inline with what most sellers are selling now.

Suggest to get PS3 from Sony Malaysia. Easier on warranty if anything shitty happens.

hi, any cheap hdmi cable can and will work on the ps3. no issues. however, i used to use a cheap hdmi that came with my ps3, it works fine, however the screen will flicker whenever someone on/off the light in my room. i guess it didn come with adequate shielding. since then i upgraded to a rm 40+ cable. works fine. so yeah, spend a bit more on a branded cable ( but not too much). i use qisahn's favori cable. rm 45 and works great.

I'm using RM20 HDMI 1.4 cable from Carrefour. No problems, PS3 can work with TV.

Don't be fooled. HDMI is digital. There's no such thing as snow/static. If the cable is no good, you get signal degradation (looks like assteruk during rainstorm) or no image.

Not advisable, longer cable wil loosen the power n may not charge ur controller, even if it does charge it, it'll bevery long tym to fully charge.

first of all , all HDMI cable totally same ( cheap or expensive ) .. it can be use at your Playstation 3 , Xbox360 , Blu-Ray Player etc .. if you owned a LCD / LED / LED 3D television , yes you need a HDMI cable because it can support until 1080P resolution .. while ordinary AV cable only support 480P

Ordinary ones with composite (the yellow colour RCA) only support up to 480i/576i

I need long usb cable bcause its easier for me to play far from tv..

i did the same thing bro , bought long usb cable to charge my dualshock 3 .. original USB cable too short , its impossible because my sitting position bit far from my home theater setup

I use a RM10 HDMI cable that I bought @ Lowyat plaza, works like a charm

I went lowyat last weeek..the seller didnt advise me too.. Bcause he said he cannot confirmed working..bcause last time got buyer return the usb cable

So i dindt buy bcause i stayed far from lowyat

Do HDMI cable to have versioning? and also in my experience, the expensive one is not about the signal quality, but the cable it self. Cheap ones can easily snapped. There's a lot of broken HDMI cables in my office since they think the cheap ones can save budget, while its not.

actually i bought USB extension cable , then connected with PS3 original USB cable .. this is my second USB extension cable , previously it last around 2 years then K.O

Added on December 12, 2012, 9:17 pmas for me myself i believe in branded stuff .. im willing to spend a bit for self satisfaction .. currently im using sony v1.4 HDMI cable for my Playstation 3 , Xbox360 & Blu-Ray Player .. I knew the signal quality the same as 3rd party HDMI , but the cable itself made from high quality material .. which i believe will long last , im not saying 3rd party HDMI cable not good .. my advise at least go for well made 3rd party HDMI cable
