QUOTE(jiraiya77 @ Sep 17 2018, 01:48 PM) Guys, which one of these you guys prefer? 1)Super Flower Silver Eco 500W Full Modular 80+ PSU=rm248 2)Seasonic S12Ii-520=RM269 I tend to lean towards seasonic in this case http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=...Story5&reid=185SuperFlower silver eco model is hardly reviewed due to voltage requirements. Maybe ask goldfries to take a look? This post has been edited by mbr: Sep 19 2018, 12:06 PM

Interesting interview with JonnyGuru himself. https://youtu.be/QJ_VV3UjEBYTl;dr points: 1. Pairing 10 year old psu with recent high end systems (especially with GPU costing over usd250) is not a great idea 2. Power efficiency won't save you a ton of money but the added features could be desirable such as modular and/or sleeved cables. 3. It is hard to test the longevity of the PSU, but the warranty is a fair indication of manufacturer confidence.

QUOTE(Current Events guy @ Oct 6 2019, 07:42 AM) Maybe that's why my game auto quits during cutscenes. I have a 10 year old TX650 paired with an RX5700 XT. Then again, it's probably my fault running those on the i7-880. Could be the reason. Is your i7-880 still capable of running AAA titles at 1080p with high details? I find that my 2700k (stock) was struggling to keep up, so I upgraded last year. My CM Silent Gold 650W has been running for 8-9 years too... Already prepared a TX-650M and waiting for a good time to change. But so far no issues with gaming using GTX1070Ti This post has been edited by mbr: Oct 7 2019, 08:13 AM

QUOTE(Current Events guy @ Oct 8 2019, 11:21 PM) So I went out and got a new RM 650, installed it and now I can play at ultra settings on DMC5 with a 5700 XT and a first gen i7 without any issues. I'm very surprised on the results though. Who wouldve thought swapping out an old but still working PSU with a current one would allow you to play AAA games on the highest settings. That's why the Guru (Jon Gerow) explains the things behind the scenes. Good to know that your experience is improved and proving his point somewhat.

QUOTE(Current Events guy @ Oct 15 2019, 05:49 AM) Besides, PSU max effectiveness is when it is operating within 50 - 70% of it's rating. Apparently newer models have better efficiency curves, according to Jon Gerow, so you should just get closer to what you need, and not paying more for larger wattage units. Just have to think of the future needs, eg adding or upgrading GPU
