I'm in a midst of upgrading my rig atm which i bought in 2013. Currently using PSU Corsair TX750M 80+ Bronze
as this https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Pr...p/CP-9020040-NA

Should i buy a new PSU for my new rig or just use the current one? It's working okay btw.

My new rig
AMD RYZEN 5 3600 4.2GHZ SOCKET AM4
ASROCK B450M STEEL LEGEND SOCKET AM4 MAINBOARD
T-FORCE DELTA RGB 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 3200MHZ
XPG 512GB SX8200 PRO NVME M.2 SOLID STATE DRIVE
AIGO DARKFLASH DLM23 TG M-ATX CHASSIS - WHITE

using back my 480gb SSD,1 TB sata HDD and RTX 2060 GB Zotac AMP

Thanks

Your unit should be fine - a quality 750W will basically powers most if not all single GPU setups icon_idea.gif

My Cooler Master UCP 1100W psu has now degraded after 9+ years of continuous 24/7 use. Plan to replace it with Cooler Master V1000.

Looking for better alternatives and suggestions if any before ordering one.

Specs of your machine first? I highly doubt you'll need a 1000W unit for modern hardware these days icon_idea.gif

Also, how much are you willing to spend? hmm.gif

How exactly did you detect this degradation?

According to Outervision PSU calculation for my needs and upcoming upgrade; Recommended PSU wattage is 825W and recommended PSU is: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G+, 80 Plus Gold 1000W.

Budget below MYR 800 should be good enough? 🤔

Among other things, when you have trouble cold booting the PC and both 8 pin power led on your primary GPU is blinking.

I wonder what setup you are running as 825W seems to suggest that you either run a HEDT platform or even a multi-GPU setup (which is very rare these days) along with heavy overclocking hmm.gif

Consider this?

Both are very good PSUs, and it depends on availability and pricing icon_idea.gif

Interesting interview with JonnyGuru himself.
https://youtu.be/QJ_VV3UjEBY

Tl;dr points:
1. Pairing 10 year old psu with recent high end systems (especially with GPU costing over usd250) is not a great idea
2. Power efficiency won't save you a ton of money but the added features could be desirable such as modular and/or sleeved cables.
3. It is hard to test the longevity of the PSU, but the warranty is a fair indication of manufacturer confidence.

Just bought a Segotep gp600p for RM 165. 80+ platinum, 5 year warranty.

Saved my old old desktop, (i5-3570k, rx480) it was crashing after a few minutes playing Witcher 3 or any intensive games.

Currently running OCCT power supply test, 30+ minutes so far, no problems.

There is a review for Segotep GP600P here. <Link>

I wanted to stick to my original plan with Cooler Master V1000 (Seasonic) <Link>. Reason being, good experience with Cooler Master PSU. The CM UCP 1100W (5 year warranty) bought on 20/05/10 gave me trouble free operation for 9+ years (24/7). In the end, I decided to go with the slightly more expensive EVGA Supernova G+ 1000W (FSP). <Link> Both are very good PSUs but I can RMA the EVGA it if it fails within 10 years and sell it off to offset the cost of a new one.... grin.gif

Maybe that's why my game auto quits during cutscenes.

I have a 10 year old TX650 paired with an RX5700 XT.

Then again, it's probably my fault running those on the i7-880.

I'm using Ryzen 3 3200g and RX 570 in my system.

Is this PSU good?

https://shopee.com.my/-FSP-HYDRO-GD-80-PLUS...7182.1491377688

I can't find any review for it. All the reviews available are for Hydro G or Hydro GE.

Alternatively should I go for this?

https://shopee.com.my/-SEASONIC-S12-II-430W...7182.1466019264

or this

The Seasonic S12II is based on a very old platform so I can't really recommend it. Corsair's CXM series is not cheap and is not that good in terms of performance either, and it doesn't has 100% Japanese caps icon_idea.gif

Personally the Hydro GD should be a reasonably good buy - the Hydro platform is used on some EVGA units, and is proven to be a decent performer icon_idea.gif

Is there a diagnostic tool to assess health of PSUs?

I have a TX650W from 10 years ago as mentioned above and it seems to be running fine still.

I'd like to know of it's time to replace it with a PSU that uses current tech like the RM 650, especially since I'm using an RX 5700XT

Could be the reason. Is your i7-880 still capable of running AAA titles at 1080p with high details? I find that my 2700k (stock) was struggling to keep up, so I upgraded last year.

My CM Silent Gold 650W has been running for 8-9 years too... Already prepared a TX-650M and waiting for a good time to change. But so far no issues with gaming using GTX1070Ti

If I compare benchmarks, nope and I have no reason to believe my CPU is exceptional. I do try to push it as much as I can though. Last night, I tried playing DMC5 at everything at medium settings without any problems. The FPS was fluctuating 80 - 150 fps, CPU and GPU temps were 50 deg C and 70 deg C respectively. CPU utilization was 50% and GPU at 100%.

So I went out and got a new RM 650, installed it and now I can play at ultra settings on DMC5 with a 5700 XT and a first gen i7 without any issues.

I'm very surprised on the results though. Who wouldve thought swapping out an old but still working PSU with a current one would allow you to play *some* AAA games on the highest settings.

That's why the Guru (Jon Gerow) explains the things behind the scenes. Good to know that your experience is improved and proving his point somewhat.
