Spend more.Buy at least 550W of PSU instead of 500W.

Hello guys,

My PSU recently went down, so I was thinking about getting a new & better one within my budget, below are my rigs (it's an obsolete rig smile.gifsmile.gif

Proc : AMD Phenom X3 8650
Mobo : Gigabyte GA - MA78GM - S2HP
RAM : 2 x 2GB DDR2 RAM
Graphic : Sapphire HD6670 DDR5 1GB
HDD : 1TB Samsung

My budget is around RM200 (Maybe I can top-up another RM50 if situation permits)

My question is, will a good 500W PSU power up this system efficiently.?

Please suggest me a decent PSU with its retail price.

FSP Hexa 500W/Corsair CX500 should do the trick. They should be retailing under RM200. tongue.gif

Note taken, thanks.!!!! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

One more thing, is it possible that my old PSU was the main culprit when everytime my PC is on heavy load (video editing mainly), it constantly shutting down by itself.?

I had what u called a chicken brand PSU rated at 550W at that time, and before it went totally poof, my PC kept restarting every 30 minutes or so.

Ok, my current PSU is facing some problem and need to send for RMA...I guess i will sell the PSU once its come back from RMA.

PSU: Gigabyte PowerRock Ex500W
Mobo: MSI B75P45 (lga1155)
GPU: Sapphire 7850 2gb (OC version)
Processor: i3-3220
Ram: 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 value ram
HDD:500 GB WD blue.
DVD: LG DVD RW

What power supply i should get for price range around RM150? Or maybe recommend other alternative PSU. Looking for low failure rate PSU.
1. FSP hexa 500W (HE-500)
2. Enermax Naxn Tomahawk II 500W
3. AcBel ME2 Plus 500W
4. Corsair VS450
5. Corsair VS550 (slightly out of budget)

I have asked idealtech, they mentioned that FSP hexa 500W (HE-500) and Gigabyte PowerRock Ex500 has high failure rate, so they do not carry it anymore...

Anyone used the tomahawk II before? how was it?

Hi guys, it seems that my FSP Hexa 500W (can't RMA, warranty end) bout to give up on me already hard to turn on my rig, so i'm looking for a new good and reliable PSU, budget around rm250 max, really bad luck lately, laptop's battery also broke... sad.gif

my rig specs:

I3 2100
500HDD
Gtx 560 Ti
4gb ram

Bro Hilmax suggest me to get gigabyte PowerRock/ CX corsair 500w, it is good enough already?

Btw I plan to get Enermax NAXN 82+ 550W @rm215 or S12 II 620W 80Plus Bronze @ rm285 (slightly out from budget) from lingloong..

Then Enermax NAXN maybe a better option. Corsair VS series still an entry level PSU, so not sure how good it can perform.
Try google around the enermax psu review and see if it can deliver true power of 500W without any problem.

May I know what's the sign of PSU FAILURE? Is it sudden system goes down like fans are spinning but display goes off? And there are times hard to boot up whereby unable to see BIOS LOGO, fans just spin but no sign of BIOS.

Mine is Silverstone Strider 50Sf 500W PSU.

Should I get Seasonic S12II-620 or M12II-620?

Never use semi or modular PSU before. Apart from cable management, what are the benefits of using semi or modular PSU compared to non modular?

Thanks.

The Hexas... The lower-end NAXNs and the Corsair VS series are made by CWT, but it is based on Chieftec's GPA platform. (The quality is just slightly better than those Cap Ayam ones, TBH)

The cable management is better and look more neat because unnecessary cables is removed.
If they are same 80+ bronze with same true power output, then nothing much different.
Some sample from my unboxing as below:

Non modular
