anyway what i want to say is just:

-if buying new Y480 or Y580 (per topic), CHECK the laptop if its Msia set.

-If it is not, there is a high chance you are getting no warranty services from Lenovo Malaysia

-You will NOT get services/warranty in Malaysia eventhough the set mention there is international warranty and you can register the warranty in the website.

-Because in order to eligible for international warranty, your set have to be purchased from the united states and provide proof of purchase. Which you did not.

yes there is a mfg datecode for all laptop, so they will based on that date to start counting warranty.

Since you could not provide the proof of purchase, you will most probably be denied services. Cant blame them as this is the SOP. You think they going to repair a grey import set which they (local company) earns nothing from it?

Good news is, bring back to US and you have a good chance to get service there (because the set is local to US)

and the funny thing..if malaysia distributor set come from china...izzit they need to show proof of purchase from china? haha...u dont know nothing bout how business work... i think but u try to give false statement...proof of purchase mean just receipt...if u buy here just show receipt from company here...nothing problem if that set from US, China, Singapore or what...if warranty available mean warranty is available and can claimable here...if u buy from ebay just show ebay receipt...what is the problem? nothing problem at all...for Apple product...even proof of purchase also no need for claim warranty....

yo bro, why take offence?

You should learn how to read the warranty terms.

Also, if Lenovo Malaysia can claim the warranty, then thats good news for everyone (you and ur customer who got cheap laptop). BUT the thing is they have the right to deny you service if they want because it is against the warranty terms. That is what i want to point out.

You need to learn more instead.

Grey import is grey import. Funny how u try to convince people buying your laptop.

Ajul, how is Lenovo Malaysia handling International Warranty from grey import units? Share with us your clients experience. TQ smile.gif  thumbup.gif

Checking on Lenovo site:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/h...?DocID=HT074528
"Below documentations are required prior to performing IWS service,
–    Proof of purchase.
–    Proof of Travel e.g. Passport with valid visa to or passport from country where product is purchased, other travel document (Hong Kong/Macau home return Permit) in lieu of passport.
"
Also here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.pag...ocID=MIGR-58926
"Customers requiring International Warranty Service in any of the ASEAN countries may be asked to provide one of the following in order to obtain IWS warranty repair service; proof of company identification (company letter, email, business card, company badge with photo ID), proof of purchase (purchase receipt, official order, delivery note, sales memo, or invoice), and/or proof of travel (passport with valid Visa to or from country where product was purchased, or other travel documents"

Also see here:
http://blog.lenovo.com/products/lenovo-int...-facts-and-tips
"There are certain countries that may require a proof of purchase or proof of proper importation before you can receive an IWS service and there may be fees or restrictions that apply when and if you need IWS.
• Indonesia
• Malaysia
• Phillippines
• Singapore
• Thailand
• Vietnam
• China

u too depending on website...but actually international warranty works like normal...if ur item sell in that country...for sure u can claim any warranty and service...very simple thing...just bring to any lenovo service center...this procedure works for almost manufacture...some ask for proof of purchase...some no need...just check serial number is ok...proof of purchase is doesnot mean u need to bring receipt from origin country...just proof of purchase from who u r buying..if u buying in malaysia...so receipt in malaysia should be no problem...why they want ask ur reseller of supplier receipt of purchase? just wasting their time...from item come malaysia also already go through by a few distributor, dealer and reseller...
but lastly, its ur money...just buy from whichever u think safe for u...with saving u get from the cheap price already can cover alot including part and extra thing...some item is less rm1k-3k from retail price...u can buy another extra laptop for spare part if u "toooo worry" about warranty.... icon_rolleyes.gif

No offence bro. But the truth is international warranty only applies when the set is bought from authorised distributor in US. I did not say this or invent this, but it is very clearly written in the international warranty terms. It does not work the way u think. (think Toshiba international warranty. It doesnt work here if u show them receipt from local. This is confirmed)

However like i said if Lenovo Msia dont bother about it, then thats good news for everybody. But if they do like toshiba then u and ur buyer gonna face problem.
*
the true also...even not authorized reseller also take the stock from authorized..and vice versa...this is business...making profit is the first place...for sure all item is come from manufacture and must go through distributor first...reseller authorized or not authorized also take same stock and mybe same source...just check serial number for validate the unit..no matter it come from China, US, Singapore, or Thailand...if got warranty...it will show in their database...

now u talk about lenovo or about toshiba?
some toshiba model cant claim here bcoz in local not selling same model...if selling same model sure can claim...even model number not same...thats totally different...i got a few cases....the nearest u can go to singapore...

but u buy for warranty or bcoz of spec? local model selling rm6k...US Model sell rm3k-5k...u choose...rm3k u can buy 2unit and the 2nd as spare part...rather than 1 unit...later got problem...also take a lot time for solve...even macbook pro rm8K sometime also got hardware issued....and lastly, its ur money...

toshiba, sony is manufacture from japan...lenovo+IBM, HP, Apple, Dell using policy in US...international warranty term from US company is different with manufacture from Japan...but not so much..only company/distri/reseller make it complicated...bcoz dont want give service to people that not buying from them.... notworthy.gif
