buy U3 if u using 15", else get U2.
Im using u3... seriously worth it... cheaper n better than my previous Notepal Infinite. Added on January 6, 2013, 10:35 pm QUOTE(wahahahoho6538 @ Jan 6 2013, 07:05 PM) Hmm, coz Y480 is cheaper... Initially I targeted Y500, I like the design too (especially the irresistible red backlit keyboard)... but then I realized that I actually don't need sli and also heard that sli support problem... Then I just choose 1k+ cheaper version, Y480, and then I can use the money to buy a tablet. (2 is better than 1~ SLI dont have prob if u can set it properly (update drivers, create SLI profiles, edit PhysX settings). No sluttering (occurs for less than 30fps with VSYNC turned on). If lazy to play with settings and etc, get single card version. Else, SLI is definetly better! This post has been edited by Cobby: Jan 6 2013, 10:35 PM |

QUOTE(izaydi @ Jan 6 2013, 09:40 PM) I hve both standard HD and FULL HD version. The task bar n etc stil the same size, just that pixel density is higher in FULLHD, but for web browsing, definetly its smaller, coz web pages has fixed pixel size, so it wil be small in FullHD screen 15". Solution is simple, set 125% zoom as standard in browsers, It looks readable n nice. I have dual monitor setup... left is Samsung XL2370 and right my Lappy screen. Honestly, after using 15" inch FullHD and seeing 23" FullHD... i think 15" nicer, and the 23" looks like 1024X768... LOL the Y500 FullHD screen is nicer, color and etc is better. For movies, its definetly awesome. But i like my 23" for photo editing, coz color calibration is closest to real colors (prints). The glossy of the Y500 gives a deeper black n color contrast. |

QUOTE(soundworks @ Jan 6 2013, 03:54 AM) Hi anyone with a Y500 can you share your experience of gaming with it ? And your specs and price pls ? Thanks Gaming is awesome! No prob running at FullHD.For FarCry3, need to do settings and wait for Nvidia SLI profile. Or can create own (refer google serch). Price, its RM3799 (i bought). but can get cheaper in LowYat. I spent up to RM4.3K in total to get the best performance. I added 120GB SSD, changed to 8GB Corsair Vengeance (9.9.9.9.24) with 1600MHz. Upgraded cooling system. Worth it. Its fast and reliable. The specs are as below: i7 3630QM 3.2GHz (turbo boost). 8GB DDR3 High performance RAM. 120GB Intel 330SSD 2 X 2GB Nvidia GT650 DDR5 (SLI) 1920X1080 LED Screen. Others are standard hardwares, 2 X USB 3.0 and 1 X USB 2.0 with (Always On feature). |

Hello to all Y series users..
I have my eyes on this laptop series just recently..and I'm very impressed. Just need some clarifications,as I am planning on getting either y400 or y480. y580 seems abit stretched with my current budget but will be last on my list. 1) for the y400, does it only come with w8 out of factory?if i want it with w7, i hav to install it myself?Just read up a post on w8 & w7 dualboot..That's pretty cool... 2) For the y400 and y480, both DO NOT come with FHD, correct? 3) Anyone here plays DOTA 2 with y400 (single card/non-sli) or with the y480? To what extend is it playable? Maybe medium settings ~ 30 fps? Planning to get the laptop maybe during CNY. Only playing dota,PES and some MMORPG games. The y480 or y400 seems perfect for my needs. Hoping to get some insights regarding these. Really appreciate the help. Thank you in advance! Cheers! |

QUOTE(SELRYC @ Jan 6 2013, 10:45 PM) Actually that 2 additonal fans is from my previous Cooler Master Notepal D1, I just basicly rip off the fans with its USB connector from the casing and put it on U2 and are powered separately don't worry, Powered separately mean not from laptop but external power source? And wanna ask if anyone did format their Y580 500GB HDD? Just realized that the drive got quite a number of small partition here and there, any reason for that and is it safe to clear all of the partition? And Cobby, in case you missed out on this... QUOTE(xyz_cityhunter @ Jan 6 2013, 02:05 AM) Was testing something and i accidentally clean my whole SSD This post has been edited by xyz_cityhunter: Jan 7 2013, 08:28 AM1. You will need to do a recovery media of your Win8 which you will need a 16GB pendrive or ext. HDD, by following this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/...?DocID=HT076024 2. On your SSD, format and split the partition accordingly if you need 2 type of OS on it. If not then just leave it as it is... 3. Install Win7 on the partition which you wish to recover your Win8 into, so this step is just to create a dummy so that the recovery media will enable you to do recovery onto that partition. 4. Finish the Win7 installation until you can get into the desktop wallpaper screen, plug in your recovery media pendrive/ext. HDD and then restart without any need for driver or software installation. 5. Press F12 so that you can choose the bootup media to your USB recovery media. 6. From here onward again you can follow the instructions from the link above and then wait for the recovery to be done... 7. After finish, you will see the Win8 like a freshly installed ones but all the drivers will still be intact so no need to do driver installations, unless for the graphic drivers that you want to update to the newest. 8. And for me, i plug in the Win7 installation pendrive again and then reboot to install the Win7 on my other partition. So on every startup i will get to choose Win7 or Win8 for the bootup. That's all folks~! |

QUOTE(xyz_cityhunter @ Jan 7 2013, 08:26 AM) Powered separately mean not from laptop but external power source? No the additional 2 fans is from my old cooler,Cooler Master D1(strange can't post the pic here) and put it on the U2 cooler. I simply rip off from its case and put it along with my current cooler, and coz I'm taking it directly without having to share the power source from the U2 fans I just simply having 2 different coolers combined into 1,the wires already had their own USB connector. And wanna ask if anyone did format their Y580 500GB HDD? QUOTE(lynmz @ Jan 6 2013, 11:12 PM) Hello to all Y series users.. 1)depends on what the store had to offer, you can also ask the seller if they had the service to, if not you had to install for yourself.
