QUOTE(xyz_cityhunter @ Dec 29 2012, 10:40 AM) Ok, will try on that but for this imaging from 500GB HDD to 240GB SSD, i heard that the original Windows one the HDD lacks some configuration files for the SSD to perform well, is that true? not sure.... but then, you can just try to do the optimization process lateri think by default, windows wont enable on the go ssd specific feature like TRIM etc... |

QUOTE(soundworks @ Dec 30 2012, 04:21 PM) Hi silly question here , if I were to buy from the Lenovo US ONLINE website for y500 it doesn't include the extra ultra bay graphic card right ? And there is a new year promo going on now so should I buy from there or buy from Malaysia ? What about the warranty and stuff if I buy from us ? Pls help tq ! not sure... different region different build. i believe lenovo US online store can adjust/modify certain parts just like dell. well, as for getting local or imported unit, ask yourself whether the price difference worth it or not. besides, if you're importing, you'll be troubled if your laptop is DOA (not that i'm hoping it will be, but prepare for the worst) |

QUOTE(chopin @ Dec 31 2012, 02:27 PM) hi, just curious, is win8 made for touch screen devices? if using mouse on y480/580, would the user experience be good? win8 was developed with touch screen interface in mind..... but, based on my experience using dev preview, it is still ok when using mouse.... the more u use it, you'll get accustomed to the change |

QUOTE(mrl @ Jan 1 2013, 01:51 PM) Few posts above probably answered your question... it's 12.7mm.... the only laptop that i know that use 9.5mm is MBPThose who has moved the HDD to ODD location, what's the clearance we have for that area? I'm trying to see over on amazon or ebay if I can get cheaper, but I notice there's two size (12.7mm and 9.5mm) which one will fit Y580 ODD space? |

QUOTE(xyz_cityhunter @ Jan 6 2013, 02:05 AM) Was testing something and i accidentally clean my whole SSD nice... later i'll put in front page 1. You will need to do a recovery media of your Win8 which you will need a 16GB pendrive or ext. HDD, by following this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/...?DocID=HT076024 2. On your SSD, format and split the partition accordingly if you need 2 type of OS on it. If not then just leave it as it is... 3. Install Win7 on the partition which you wish to recover your Win8 into, so this step is just to create a dummy so that the recovery media will enable you to do recovery onto that partition. 4. Finish the Win7 installation until you can get into the desktop wallpaper screen, plug in your recovery media pendrive/ext. HDD and then restart without any need for driver or software installation. 5. Press F12 so that you can choose the bootup media to your USB recovery media. 6. From here onward again you can follow the instructions from the link above and then wait for the recovery to be done... 7. After finish, you will see the Win8 like a freshly installed ones but all the drivers will still be intact so no need to do driver installations, unless for the graphic drivers that you want to update to the newest. 8. And for me, i plug in the Win7 installation pendrive again and then reboot to install the Win7 on my other partition. So on every startup i will get to choose Win7 or Win8 for the bootup. That's all folks~! |

QUOTE(SELRYC @ Jan 6 2013, 12:45 PM) Actually I still hesitated to call it a gaming laptop, more like an advanced multimedia purpose laptop. But the use of GTX series GPU in a normal laptop (people always relate GTX series with gaming) I think thats why. Y500 is like a cheaper version of Razer Blade. Well look at the design of Y500 and I really loved it. It looks slim yet still have that aggresive gamer centric design and the cooling system redesign too (guess Lenovo learned it from the cooling design of Y580/480 design) correct me if I'm wrong. well... Y580 is multimedia laptop, not gaming laptop |

QUOTE(mrl @ Jan 6 2013, 03:21 PM) well, I'm willling to call this as gaming laptop unofficially since Razer Blade has the similar spec (same CPU + GPU....) oooo....however, Lenovo US coined Y580 as Powerful Gaming Laptop PC... and I'm not kidding... http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/i.../y-series/y580/ wonder why Lenovo Malaysia stick with multimedia laptop isit bcos we more spec hunter |

QUOTE(sharp903sh finder @ Jan 8 2013, 04:52 PM) opposite of blacklist....only listed stuff can be used..... outside the listed, it won't work... i'm not 100% about wi-fi card whitelist, but if you refer the previous y480/580 thread, there's discussion about it |
