newborn babies skin should use a less abrasive chemical to clean the clothes. (after all they don't really get dirty like adults).

Their skin is also very fragile and new so most new parents are eager to have the new baby smell:D

But as your bedsheets and your clothes that they rub on to are washed with normal detergent, if your baby is not allergic to them it should be okay.
