This phone is really... Hopeless....
Lets see. While driving, it slipped from my leg and dropped to the car mat. Probably hitting the door on the way I don't know, but the screen cracked. FINE! It wasn't gorilla glass, my own neglect for assuming it is. I just ignored the crack and continue using.
Today, out of no apparent reason, it just died. DIED! Can't boot into recovery, can't boot, flashing from ODIN gives no PIT file error, PIT file given and it shows partition failed. Lol wut?
So my phone is now bricked, by doing nothing. I'm a little tired now to search through the thread for any solution, been doing that for the past couple hours. I did notice there are some people who faced this when doing a sudden death search.
Anyway, since there's no way to unroot the phone now, I'm gonna have to go get a new phone. Great! This is a very nice phone don't get me wrong. But dropping from my lap to the CAR MAT and cracked, and so many people around the world are complaining about this sudden death that happens for no apparent reason, and CANNOT be fixed, I really hope you guys who're considering this phone, to know what I went through.
Buy with risk, this is a fragile phone, VERY fragile phone. Buy with caution.
Added on December 16, 2012, 9:47 pmUpon reading the past couple of post... It seems like you guys are just talking on this topic? Hah way to go. I think my phone died today around 4PM.

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Dec 16 2012, 09:54 PM) You put a lot of assumptions there. First..the phone screen is not unbreakable. No matter it's Gorilla or Orang Utan glass. .it still break and scratch. Second..regarding motherboard sudden death..not all the phone have it. Maybe your phone is on the unlucky list. Or maybe something inside mess up when you drop the phone. Instead of buying new phone..why not you sent it to service centre. You only pay for the crack screen that cost around RM600 while the motherboard is covered by warranty. That if your phone is SME set la. . Well, I did say maybe it did hit the door on the way down to the floor mat. My point is, it can break very easily. And if the fall had anything to do with the phone going dead all of a sudden, when there are so many cases online, then I'm really that unlucky. Anyway man not trying to argue with you. I'll try to bring it to warranty. I don't care about the screen I just want my phone to work, and having noway to unroot this, looks like I won't even get my warranty :/ This post has been edited by Reis: Dec 16 2012, 10:00 PM

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Dec 16 2012, 10:08 PM) No need unroot..if it can't even power on and go into download mode then chances are..service centre also cannot check anything..lolz It can still do 1 thing, and that is going into download mode

QUOTE(firstknight @ Dec 16 2012, 10:10 PM) aiya... if its dead... sent in to claim your warranty.. my first death didnt unroot cos cant turn on also... so just change... thats it... 2 days out already.... as long you got backup nothing to worry... once got back the phone less than an hour you are good to go with your new Motherboard Phone and ur previous settings is back up already.... Added on December 16, 2012, 10:11 pmthen reflash lor or restore.... It's not possible to reflash or restore man. I've tried every possible way. I've been using Android for years and have been rooting and flashing and doing all sorts of things and none of it works now. Maybe I am missing something, so here's the situation. 1. The phone cannot boot into recovery 2. ODIN fails saying no PIT file available 3. When PIT file is provided, it says partition failed There are many other things I tried but basically I think the key ones are up there. Any other things I'm missing out?

QUOTE(jwyong001 @ Dec 16 2012, 10:14 PM) err..bro..gorilla glass doesn't means that the glass is like a real gorilla--unbreakable. lol.. the hardness degree for gorilla glass is just around 7 only. try to take some sand and scrub on ur screen u will notice serious scratch over ur screen as the sand hardness degree is higher than 7. Dude, I know its not unbreakable. But how big of an impact can it be by dropping from my lap to the car mat? I know gorilla will NOT break under such a simple drop. Even if you factor in the possibility of it knocking the door on the way down. Added on December 16, 2012, 10:17 pmAnyway, the sudden death is my problem not the screen crack. If you really want to compare just go see some youtube drop test. You'll notice the S3 will crack and crack the worse among other phones. This post has been edited by Reis: Dec 16 2012, 10:17 PM

Why is everyone pointing about the screen breaking part? That is not my problem. I know gorilla screen is not impregnable, and this is not about gorilla screen at all. Besides, did you even read my description of the drop? I was merely pointing out to new buyers about its frailty, so that they can be extra careful. And the fact is, the screen IS fragile!

QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Dec 16 2012, 10:30 PM) is yours is SME set , try to flash back stock msian rom . If it's AP and u know which country it's from , flash back the same ROM . If i remember , if mobo failure , cant even boot into download mode . Not 2 sure , best ask some forumers here if they can boot into download mode when they have mobo failure Unless I'm missing out something, I cannot flash the phone, there's no form of control to even try flashing the phone That's why I'm stuck Thanks for your suggestion though I really appreciate it. Added on December 16, 2012, 10:37 pmQUOTE(firstknight @ Dec 16 2012, 10:32 PM) it can go into download mode right... if you can ODIN mean can i suppose... Flash the phone cant? ODIN can detect, but cannot push anything down to the phone. It always gives an error PIT file not available. When a PIT file is provided, it says partition failed. QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Dec 16 2012, 11:41 PM) I faced this problem before 3 times , once on Vibrant , once on SGS and recently , Note . Nothing flashed from odin goes in , always fail . No recovery , flashing with PIT files is worst . The only way to restore it is to flash the correct firmware that come with the phone . For SGS and Note , its easy , not much of a hassle . Vibrant , took me 3 days to find the correct firmware as wasnt aware for the samsung rom site back then . Dont ask me why cuz that was what a developer advised me to do then . For your case , I dunno is it mobo problem or just a corrupted firmware . As mentioned , best to ask those who faces mobo problem if they have the same problem b4 sending it to service center . Added on December 16, 2012, 11:42 pmIt comes with 4.1.1 ...... I think so . Full charge it 1st b4 de-virgining it Noobi3, do you have a any links or methods I can try? My phone is dead and gone anyway, I can try your method since it worked, thanks a bunch buddy!!

QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Dec 17 2012, 12:46 PM) I dont have the exact link for your problem as I 1st encounter it years back . Nowadays , I just download the stock rom to try 1 by 1 . Should b fast if u have unifi . As I said b4 , it would save u alot of time if u can remember your stock rom that comes with your phone before u update or even flash custom rom I tried a couple, so far all still stuck at ODIN not being able to push anything down. Ohh wells... Thanks though.. Fortunately I still have my good old Desire Added on December 18, 2012, 3:46 pmQUOTE(heizad @ Dec 18 2012, 03:18 PM) cant flash any rom/fw..no pit partition...suspect corrupted NAND...
