Hi, would like to ask...

I am currently on 4.1.1 rooted and samsung stock ROM. I have used triangle away to reset status but still labeled as modified and this will not get OTA updates for 4.1.2

How best can I get 4.1.2 updates when its released? I read about downloading samsung 4.1.2 tar file and update via Odin. Is this possible? If I do this, do I need to do a complete backup and then restore with Titanium backup OR flashing stock rom via Odin will not erase your existing app and data (much like OTA updates). Thanks

1. Best to do a backup.
2. I guess you want to retain your root, if yes,
i. Buy Mobile Odin and load the tar file.
ii. Wait for Rooted stock 4.1.2 tar file.

3. If you want to load stock, this will lost root
i PC odin loh
ii. use Kies loh (depending what country ROM you are now..)

Ok, assume I m willing to lose root, can you advise on the steps to take to update 4.1.2? Better to use PC Odin or Kies?

Kies use for update official firmware. So far M'sia firmware still haven't release yet..right..?

If you running stock and Malaysia ROM, you have to wait till Malaysia turn. Alternatively, you can download from Sammobile of Poland 4.1.2 and flash with PC Odin.

Kies is not good suggestion to backup, i have tried few round to backup my apps using kies it just failed to run...

Now is not the right time to buy a original battery back cover... The new SIII battery 3000mAH with battery cover should be launched in December right? Should consider that as well...

Just came back from HK and all the big phone/IT shops were advertising this 3000 mAH battery and when I asked when it is available, the salesman mentioned should be in dec and even ask me if i want to pre-order

i have been switching between sammy rom (omega) and aosp (cm10)

Sammy pros:
# very good battery life even with stock kernel, even better battery life with 3rd party kernel like yank555.lu
# with samsung motion features, like the smart stay, turn to mute call..
# samsung multi-view feature

AOSP pros:
# faster, smoother
# on-screen virtual button (navigation bar)
# nexus alike
# get new android release faster than sammy
# skip song with volume button (this required mod in sammy rom, but only works in ICS, after JB the MOD not working anymore)
# 2g/3g toggle at notification bar
