It's not a slip, it's a certificate.

A high quality, gold coloured, A4 sized certificate.  smile.gif

Salt requires mostly memorizing and if you dont understand, you can view some video on youtube about salt. That's what I did for my last semester exam.

Ok thanks for the heads up smile.gif

I don't see why people are saying that Salts requires a lot of memorising . In fact , if your basic is good , only a little memorising is necessary .

Study in chunks : That's what I did .

Start with solubility of salts . Then methods of preparing soluble salts ( very important to know the procedures well -- you will be asked in the essay section ) . If you're done , you can start studying method of preparing insoluble salts ( this is fairly easy , choose 2 soluble salts where the product will be insoluble , hint : choose a nitrate salt and add a potassium or sodium salt ) .

Then , jump to the qualitative analysis of salts ( stoichiometry , this is easy if you still remember how to balance equations and do some calculations involving chemical reactions , you should be able to cover this in no time ) .

With that aside , start with the gas tests ( oxygen , hydrogen , nitrogen dioxide , etc ) which will help you in determining the presence of anions in a salt compound .

Go on with anion tests ( again , pretty easy -- only four of them . )

Cation tests have may be a bit tricky -- you should know the colours of ions , copper ( II ) blue , iron ( II ) green , iron ( III ) brown , zinc -- yellow when hot , white when cold , lead -- brown when hot , yellow when cold , lead ( II ) oxide -- black , copper ( II ) carbonate - green , potassium manganate ( VI ) purple , etc ) .

Then all you have left are the solubility tests using NaOH and ammonium solutions , these are the important ones . Also remember specific tests like Nessler's reagent , potassium hexacyanoferrate ( II ) , potassium iodide ( to test for the presence of lead ( II ) ions which forms a yellow insoluble salt ) .

That's about it . You got to refresh every day after reading this chapter by reading short notes , even after multiple readings I still am not 100 % sure of certain things , and I'd have to refresh later ( I've left my Chemistry aside for four days now -- concentrating on Physics ) .

All the best !

The parts I'm stuck with is Cation test and solubility test.

Just can't remember the colour codes for the ions sad.gif

Maybe I just need more time...but it's the end of 2012 already
