QUOTE(kerolzarmyfanboy @ Feb 11 2013, 02:22 PM) cut off the paycheck by 10% for all goverment workers..or increase tax..use the money..maybe we can get something..but the ruling gomen would be kicked..coz nobody wants their money taken away..haha I don't think people will be happy if that happened.QUOTE(cheeming @ Feb 11 2013, 04:35 PM) Actually to be able to support and able to produce our own armament we need not only the money but the manpower(technical know-how).. As far as I know we do not have enough proper people to develop our own technologies. haha RM50b is just a figure of speech And we don't need to spend so much like rm 50 billion annually to produce excellent results (there are countries spending not so much on R&D but still be able to produce results). All we need is a proper management of resources and focus on the kind of research objective we want to reach. Besides we do not have a real market over here, so before considering to invest heavily on producing on out own we need to have a forecast and a proper market analysis if we are able to sell it to our own MoD or other countries.. Malaysia have a very R&D in defense and military, from government agencies and private sector, we do have the enough man power with knowledge to do so. The good example is during the DSA, there are many local company with good proposal and prototype items but unable to carry on due to lack of money and investment. I know some project that have been held back numerous of time just because the grant is revoked due to financial constraint. Plus, the government itself prefer foreign item also did not contribute to local industry. That's why I'm bold enough to say that money is the main factor, and the government should consider to put extra effort in this area. we don't really need to sell our item, but just enough to be self sufficient! I not just about the crony! This post has been edited by atreyuangel: Feb 11 2013, 04:50 PM |

QUOTE(cheeming @ Feb 11 2013, 05:30 PM) And we need to have a proper plan before executing it. We shouldn't just try for the sake of trying. I do agree we need to have our own R&D but we also need to plan how to build and nurture the pool of local talent . hahaha apparently I miss type "In b4 not just about the crony!" as "I not just about the crony!" atreyuangel .. for me its not about crony but just that we need to really have a focus on what we can do best. Sorry for being a bit unaware of the current defense R&D situation in Msia as I am only involved in defense R&D in EU. Being self sufficient is good but its also important that we could consolidate some of the companies into bigger players to have a critical mass and to prevent overlapping research. I do hope that one day Msia will not rely so much on others to develop our national assets. btw, only US spend a huge amount of money on military R&D programs. Most of the countries spend less than 10 billion per year on R&D. I believe all the R&D are closely linked to the government as they are the ones that granted the research grant. I agree on what you said on building and nurturing the local talent . but as you can see in Malaysia only some of the local public university other then Stride of the UPNM and that have a participation in R&D while the private sector are made of the large established GLC company like the Bousted, DRB and etc are the ones that gets highlighted. Local company like the Metro Koats Technology have a very good product that could be used by ATM, instead the company is almost unheard off to most Malaysian even though their product do received recognition on camouflage technology. A friend of mine, able to develop a USV from cheaper fiberglass materiel with patented design for smooth high speed turning but there is no interest from the Navy! The boat name is Jampiras USV" them seems to be struggling to market their product in Malaysia. QUOTE(meedoot @ Feb 11 2013, 08:51 PM) want to ask something.. Malaysia do develop training dumb bomb for training purposes, malaysia punya stride why the goverment tidak mencoba one project for producing some item that MAF ussualy use it, for an example, training bomb (dunno malaysia already produce it or not), simple project but army ussualy use that item very often for training their new soldier, dont have strategic values, but atleast, army will buy it, factory got the money for next R&D, and can improve it. the point is, there's a will from the goverment and users. like ANOA in the first launching, TNI wont use that (no match with other vehicles from outside) but our president Habibie in that time insit TNI must buy it (approx 150 ANOA), and now, day by day we can improve it. maybe still have lack in there and here, but atleast we try.. i hope the plan for aqusition pars 8x8 still on the right track and malaysia can start producing their own gears.. salam the Stride is still on the final (I believe on final phase) phase with the Taming Sari (Self Propelled Munition) While CTRM are more in the UAV development industry. but like I said, local product are very seldom caught the eye of the procurement team of the government. For example the DRB Deftech AV4 4x4 can still be used as field ambulance or at least by the TD in the country, but they do not have the interest on it. Maybe there are other factor involved that slash out the AV4, but there are room for improvement. The AV8 project probably the largest Malaysian R&D project with the Turkish side, a sum of RM8billion is awarded to DRB for the development of the product from the center, development facilities, test track and etc. And I believe it is a good start. |

QUOTE(cheeming @ Feb 12 2013, 05:37 PM) Seems interesting ... R&D is closely linked to the government if we are only aiming for local use but if we are trying to market it elsewhere the private defence contractors will normally have their own funding and also partial grant from the gov. Yes, lets hope for the best! lets hope that our Malaysia Defence Park in Sungkai could be realised soon enough then I could come back with my company btw if your company do comeback, save some jobs for me! QUOTE(yinchet @ Feb 12 2013, 06:58 PM) From what I heard of the AV4. AV4 have a lots of issues, that's why it remains as prototypeIt simply did not meet the ATM specification. It design also resemble certain vehicle that ATM use once which it failed badly in Malaysia terrain. Anyway AV4 have also been offer to other branches. but none interested in its. Anyway They should have design it like the Gurkha LAPV that should catch some eye. the design can be improved and the AV4 could be the project can be propelled in order to get better result! R&D is not a very complicated process and time consuming, but to have a platform to work on is a good start! This post has been edited by atreyuangel: Feb 12 2013, 07:05 PM |

QUOTE(yinchet @ Feb 12 2013, 07:09 PM) well with AV8 project on hand they wont be going for AV4 for now. the time line of AV4 and AV8 is quite far Anyway deftech should put more initiative in R&D. they might learn a few thing in AV8 that can be implemented in AV4. hopefully. I believe that AV8 and AV4 have a very different role, AV4 is much more suited for normal patrol where the AV8 for much more serious business! QUOTE(cheeming @ Feb 12 2013, 07:14 PM) PS: on a side note this is what I am involved in http://selex-es.com/domains/air/airborne-isr-systems I'm in my final semester, and quite busy with the final project only some of MYMIL forumer will be in Langkawi covering for LIMA! But I'm looking forward for next year Defense Security Agreement or DSA2014 in PWTC! hopefully maybe we can meet there! ps: your company have a quite interesting sensors!! There is a security crisis in Sabah yesterday, and our defense forces have taken a necessary action to neutralizing the situation!
QUOTE IGP: Armed foreigners who landed in Lahad Datu surrounded by security forces PETALING JAYA: A group of armed foreigners who landed in Lahad Datu, Sabah on Tuesday has been surrounded by Malaysian security forces. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said security forces surrounded the area when the intruders, believed to be from the Philippines, landed on Tuesday morning. "They have been directed to put down their weapons and surrender," he said in a statement Wednesday. Ismail said the intrusion was related to problems in southern Philippines. "The situation is under control and the public need not be unduly worried," he said. Earlier Wednesday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi said he had ordered Armed Forces chief Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin to take immediate action together with the police over the matter, to ensure the country's defences and security were at the optimum level. "We will seek cooperation from neighbouring countries. I will also ask the Armed Forces chief to give a detailed report on the situation there when possible," he added. here is the statement from the police ![]() |
