Why would Singapore need F-35's considering the region its operating in.
This is sooo true across the globe.

these lease deal is on the table for quite some times.
I think it will replace either hawk or f-5 rather than migs.
*
the lease deal was mentioned in case we will go for Gripen-NG, which is still under development..

Gripen-NG were out off the competition right from the start.
it did not match the requirement.
than Saab come back with a lease deals hoping for the government consider it for others fighter jet replacement rather than hopping to replace migs.
F-5 and Hawk have been in the inventory for very long time. biggrin.gif
*
There was an enquiry into Gripen NG when SAAB proposed Gripen for MMRCA project. But SAAB said no can do since its still in development. Maybe Mindef saw Gripen NG as a possibility since Erieye is hot favorite for AEW project. So the idea of leasing Gripen came about..

Tho better get battle-proven Rafale..

instead of replacing the F-5s, how about if mindef spare some of them to modify them to UCAV..I have great confidence that the STRIDE and local universities capable of doing just that..

US Congress wont approve and its an old airframe already. However, why not modify it into kamikaze fighters.. tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

China is doing that with their migs21. laugh.gif
heard they have few hundred of that.
unknown.
it will take at least 2-3 years from the contract signed.
if TUDM is waiting certain tech then it will be longer.
there is a possibilities gripen will replace those old f-5 and hawk.
*
Let say Gripen will replace the F5s and Hawks, while either Rafale, Typhoon or F18F will replace the MIG29s. Then we will come back to the problem of having 4 different jets in our inventory and will cause havoc to the maintenance crew..

I agree with statement no. 8, the others are open to debate..Disagree with SU30MKM being mongrel, since on paper, its the best modified version of the SU30s. SIBMAS no go to operations anymore bcoz spare parts are hard to get. Armor boys also complained that the 90mm Cockerill turret on Scorpion light tank is not suitable. i actually like to see the Scorpion reverted back to recce mission and replace the 90mm turret with 20mm gun with equipments suited for recce missions. Dunno know much on the quality of locally produced 5.56 mm rounds or whether we are using imported ones. Maybe have to ask general in charge of logistics, oh wait, former head of army logistics joined PR..

GE mood edi. laugh.gif

We are still using locally made bullet.

Scorpion should just retire mang. CV-90 would be a good replacement for scorpion.
we need good ncw systems on board for recca unit.

point no.2 were use to shoot y we use Airasia. biggrin.gif  I'm damn sure most of our c-130 is ready to move heard some of them will go for upgrade.
no spare parts is just bs.

point no.4 our special look comfortable handling the hk416. dun think there is a problem. hmm.gif

the RMN sadly FAC needed to be replace ASAP. shakehead.gif
*
I dun think theres funding for CV90, since theres a long list of more important acquisitions. So maybe can la convert the Scorpions back to recce mode, replace the 90mm gun and install equipment suited for recce missions. I'm not sure which H&K the poster was referring to, but HK 33 was quite heavy and was in service for only a few years b4 being replaced by the M16s.

HK33 weight quite standard considering it were a 60's design. IMO.

yup, but I've used it b4, doesnt think the length of the barrel is the issue, quite OK la to me, weight maybe but since I used it when I was around 16-17 yrs old, not that surprising la

Budget to upgrade old airframe like MIG-29 will be waste of $$$ as tech keep on changing. Just as you won't bother to upgrade your old 286 CPU by adding more ram, hdd..... it end up better to buy a brand new one. Old plane that been upgrade with latest stuff may not work well - it can be dangerous for the pilot too if it fail mid-air and drop to the ground from 10k feet up in the air. If that person who do the upgrade retired, new people may not know anything about it. I think the electronic in the fighter jet is the same as our PC. It keep on changing and the old one will fail as it life-span finish.
*
depends on the budget allocated la. If no got budget to buy newer ones within 10 years, but got budget for abit of upgrade, why not? Even Turkish AF and IDF still flying upgraded F4 Phantoms..

5.56 is weak.
*
If its weak, how come its the standard round for NATO?

5.56 mm is has weaker velocity and inertia compared to 7.62, but it has better accuracy..thats why we use 5.56 for assault rifle and 7.62 for machine guns. We even use 5.56 Minimi as senjata bantuan

i thought 5.56 is higher velocity?
*
QUOTE(lcy851031 @ Apr 1 2013, 05:28 PM)
Actually 5.56mm had higher muzzler velocity compare to 7.62mm, giving the bullet more accuracy and distance. But just that lack of inertia compare to 7.62mm, so harder to penetrate the target.

But when 5.56mm go into the target's flesh and tumble inside, damage to the muscle tissue is really painful.  sweat.gif

Still pipul dun get that we bought the heli CSAR version, meanwhile the brazil's were a basic utility transport version.
It's even on the request of our own aging nuri pilot!

Some pipul were that dungu meh?

I think military stuff orang suka2 pusing cuz it's kinda hard explaining the tech and the weird acronyms behind the thing..

PAS tak buat kerja rumah ke tak baik menfitnah tau.
haiya kenapa boustead terpilih. jawapannya senang aje.
sebab contract.
PSC bukan gagal nak membina 27buah itu. tapi kerajaan tak pernah membuat pembelian 27 buah sekali gus tapi berperinkat 6units setiap kali.
pada zaman PSC kerajaan telah singed a contract for 27units.
Kerajaan masih terikat ngan perjanjian itu sampai sekarang walaupun boustead telah takeover PSC.

still doesnt hide the fact that Mindef is the lubok for songlaping for BeEnd pepol...and with many ex-military officers joined PAS and PKR, sure ly they also got now many details on military procurements..
