around may to june lor ..
but it usually is getting later n later to start due to NS which is actually a bad thing for potential students as you get lesser time to complete the syllabus actually i'm one of the ex f6 .. i took d STPM last yr .. i'm not blaming it as it starts late but it does make my life harder as when i go for my exam i didn't even complete my syllabus yet hence it does affect my results n now i'm taking the private U path already although my results won't be tat bad btw i'm from sabah so the quality is very way lower than west malaysia i noe becos i hv frens at west malaysia taking f6 and we do always have lecturers from west malaysia conducting seminars and so and from that i can conclude tat it's east malaysia quality is terribly low compared to west malaysia so i believe you ppl in west malaysia, the quality of f6 shld b way higher (as in terms of the teacher teaching) to you people who wanna take f6 just keep in mind it's not how smart you are .. but how hardworking you are .. i can say i'm smart (as in terms of i always get straight As in UPSR, PMR, SPM) but as i'm not very hardworking n due to the lack of time to complete the syllabus i'm not quite confident about my results due to be out next week |

does it really matters about where you take your stpm? my teacher's daughter, lim sue zann was one of the country's top stpm student in year 2001 or 2002 ( i forgot the actual year ) and she studied in a school located in a small town in johor, called kota tinggi.

I'm in Sarawak and my school has started what we call tuition class for form six. So far all the teachers at my school is good though. My School is SMk Methodist Sibu. If I'm not wrong it started during Febuary.
PS: Form Six is much more harder compared to F4/F5 better think twice before going for it. |

i'm an upper six student in kolej sultan abdul hamid in alor star... it's a secondary school anyway... the school offer both art and science stream in form 6... well, the f6 classed in the school are called pra - u (or pre - u)... i'm an art stream student... some of the teachers are very lousy... and in f6, you really cannot depend on the teachers... most of the time... of course f6 is much more difficult than f4/f5... stpm is even considered as one of the toughest examination... if your really hardworking, f6 wouldn't be a big problem for you...

I think that the teacher's experience in teaching and marking STPM papers is essential. STPM isn't an easy exam, it's actually mind numbling ie: Maths 1 2005, after the exam I was mentally drained. You can never expect what question that comes out. The only way to prepare is to do enough on un-routine questions that challenges you to think out of the box.
For those who took the exam last year should remember the Maths 1 hexagon vector question. Passing shouldn't be a problem, but like what my tuition teacher said, they'll always get you at one or two question that'll cost you the A. I had a crappy math teacher that couldn't teach worth shit, we were actually teaching her the basic, tuition was the only solution for us. If you're only studying using the text book alone, think again. The best way is to do past year question after you've studied a certain chapter, but sometimes questions from the exam incorporates more than one topic in a single question. Also, a most common misconception is that you only do exam questions when exams are nearby. Have your past year exam papers and try giving them a go a topics you've already covered. Having said this, I never regreted doing form 6, never. Tip: Don't believe 100% in spotting questions, finish the syllabus ASAP and do a review on what you've studied. Tip2: Short notes, life savers. 'Nuff said. |

As long as you put in effort it wouldn't be. Not the kind of effort where you start studying seriously only 1/2 months away.
Just start early and you should be fine. Always try to do a topic review after you've finished certain chapters/topics,make your own short notes, attempt pass year questions and you should be fine. Scoring an A would require extra effort. |

Lol. I did something yesterday, just for fun. I went to google and typed in 'hardest pre-u examination'. Granted the results were mainly blogs/forums/etc, but I wonder if it was any coincidence that nearly half of the first 10 results were regarding STPM.
Yes, it is hard like hell. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, and don't take it unless you are damn damn damn damn damn damn damn hardworking (can study 5+ hours a day everyday or something). Many people who got full As for their SPM didn't get anything close to that for STPM. I'm one of them. My advice: Don't go form 6 at all. It was a bad mistake on my part, I really hope noone else makes it. |

yeah misao i agree wif you
Unless you are very very very very hardworking X999999, forget about it. I don't believe in study smart but not study hard for F6. It's a lie in my opinion. U need to work extra hard. My advice : If you have the money don't even bother about taking form 6. It's hard, it's time consuming and the selection process for getting in local universities ain't that fair. I did the mistake as well. I have the money but I join form 6. But now I'm going to private U instead. But in my part I wouldn't regret it as back then I didn't even know what to study after my SPM so there's no one to blame except myself. i guess i'm same wif u misao. I get 7A and 2B in my SPM .. but my STPM 1A and 3C. Hurray for me .. This post has been edited by soul_project: Mar 19 2006, 11:08 PM |

Exactly the same. I'm prolly goin to private anyway.. I mean, I WILL apply for local uni but 3.58 CGPA get pharmacy? Chinese samore? Heh.
To those also undecided, IMO better you take A lvls, SAM, CPU, whatever. Private uni's requirement for A lvls also lower than STPM lol... like, wtf? |

ya.... I was in form 6 too... for half a year.... and now I'm taking alvls.... First things first..I can really see the difference in quality of the education between government(stpm in my school) and private, the private edu is so much more better. teachers are so much more "understandable then the teachers tat thought me in stpm..... so ya... I;m glad I made the switch b4 it was too late. Another thing, stpm is super tough. I believe the jump from spm is too high, u have to work extremely hard to really score, stuff tat i study in stpm on the 2nd week i only study tat on my 2nd or 3rd semester here in alvs. Tho both will end up on the same level as one another but the good thing tat alvls does is it strengthens ur basics b4 it goes to the tough part....... but stpm... hahah first day itself u just face the hard topics straight away...

As far as I know, there is no govt-based overseas scholarship for STPM at all. Your best reward by the govt is to get a local uni with the course of your choice... IF you slogged your way up to get really good grades.

QUOTE(tifosi @ Mar 20 2006, 12:02 AM) nah... u cant say tat. Doesnt mean we're not paying for it we should get bad quality altho tats the case.... With tat sort of attitude our public school system will nvr improve. See other countries for that matter of fact. The bad quality ends up wif students having to go for tution or self understanding to learn thier syllabus and jus cant rely on the school teachers. I believe in other countries like US or UK or Australia i dont think tuitions there is as common as us here.... So that really shows it la, if u get good quality education in schools, u'll not go out looking for tuition. |

usually ppl who get above average in science class for SPM will do even better in art class for STPM but the art class u mean is business class rite ? or art class = geography, sejarah, BM those class ? i only know if u science then convert go business most likely you'll do fine |

1 thing that i know for sure about that, the Maths paper for art's stream is freaking easy compared to science stream's paper
the other paper is the same (paper 1) as for comparing the others, arts takes on a totally different batch of subjects so its hard to compare that way but generally i would say its easier |

Hello... I'm one of those who switched from Sci SPM to Arts STPM.
Math S may be simpler in that we don't have Trig and Poisson, but we've plenty of other statistical formulae to fumble over, heh. I can't say that Arts is easy lah--it really depends on whether you're interested in it or not, eg. Economics/History not everyone can tahan. And if Sci has a lot of depth to it, well Arts has a lot of breadth. We can't really predict what they will ask, especially for more relative stuff like P.Perniagaan because the subject matter (as opposed to the syllabus) changes according to the present. Bottomline: You must be (at least 50%) interested in what you study for STPM... it requires stamina to get thru' the 1.5 years! |

UPSR,PMR,SPM i managed to get stright As...but STPM got only 1A anb 3Bs
acutually i believe that STPM not suitable for certain type of ppl. And i agree that inteligence doesn't matter much in form 6. It is more hardwork. Lots and lots of hardwork. Then gett result ready doen't mean can get into the course you want in public uni. Unless you get 4 flat. If not cannot be too picky. Like me...so limited choices. And i am not the only one who got straight As in SPM didn't do well for STPM. Like SPM if last minute study still got chance lar...STPM jangan harap. |
