Car: Perodua Kenari Auto Transmission

Age: 9 years old

Mileage: 130924 km

Regular service (Engine oil, spark plug, air filter, brake bleeding, flush radiator @ perodua service centre)

Sucker for any of perodua's suggestions . always change what they suggest me to change but this round they are suggesting " need to change piston ring " as my oil leak signal is blinking and " there is no leakage so it seems that piston ring rosak " .... estimated cost is 3k and they need to keep the car for 1 week!!!!!

3k ????!!!!!!

i need help getting suggestion as in where can i get a second opinion (preferably near jln ipoh or jln ampang or probably anywhere as i am desperate) , a good workshop who will not rip me off just because i am a lady driver and do not know much about cars ...

or is there any mechanics online here who would be interested to help diagnose my car ? i dont mind paying consultation fees tongue.gif

thank you

got any white smoke coming out of ur exhaust or not? and does ur engine oil goes lesser after a certain period of time?

anyway, go to outside workshops and ask for a quote... last time my friend changed for his saga 1.5 n cost him rm700 only

service centres...no matter wat brand... is expensive... if u no more warranty, avoid.

hi guys ( i am assuming it's all guys only that will usually reply to such matter ) tongue.gif

thanks for the replies ... had a closer look at my car today to know whats what ... the problem onlyjust started , i believe .. hence , not much symptoms yet ... on top of that , cuz service just done by perodua , so right now the oil is full ..

went to a mechanic in somewhere nesr damansara jaya today to get a consult ... he said i need to run the car for another few hundred kms and observe any oil leaks at my car park before can confirm where is the problem ... also mentioned , the cost should be 600 to 800 depending on what other small parts need changing ....

seems that there is nothing much to be done at the moment but at least i could cross check what he said with what you guys said .. so didnt feel like an idiot at the workshop ...

was planning to source of my own spareparts using these forums but he would rather i just leave it all to him ...

some of the items he mentioned are " piston ring , gasket , oil filter " (biger items he ssaid ) ... sounds correct , right ?

check oil sump. if there is oil leaking, u can easily spot it.
else is worn piston ring.

demomode: tht's a really good article ... thanks for sharing ... am pretty sure it's the piston ring as so far there has been leaks in my car park . damn ... i was told it's cheaper to fix a leakage then to change a piston ring ....

If there is leaks in your car park, i don't think its the piston ring as piston ring sits in the cylinder...if your piston ring is leaking, you should see white smoke coming out from your exhaust when you're driving or rev hard in free gear (Correct me if i'm wrong as i'm not 100% sure of this.)

And since u seen leaks in your car park, it might be the gasket or your oil sump.
