hi all sifus..need some guidance from you all here..
my current setup is:

HU : cheap phillips brand with usb input
amp : autotek 4 channel
front speakers : genexis 6.5"
rear speakers : mohawk 5"
preamp : titanium digital t-4000
sub : houston 12"

ok now here's the problem..1st of all i know nothing about car audio..i just threw my car to the accessory shop last year and told them i wanted to install a sound system. (budget budget la of coz.. =X)

at 1st i was like feeling ok la with the sound, but now after a year already dunno y i feel that the vocals coming out of my speakers feels quite "empty",no umph, quite noisy(not as in cracking sound but somthing like a lot of sounds, instruments mixing together) n not really solid. i've heard my frens system and it sounds a lot better than mine.(his system oso budget budget one)

ok i know my system is cheap cheap and i'm not asking for audiophile standards here..just wanna know what can i do to improve the sounds of my system? oh and btw my fren just gave me a set of jbl gt0608c, if i wanna install it, is there any other things i have to change? and can i use back the previous cross over or i should change to the jbl one?

thanks for all your help in advance ya...

No problem 1k is enuff for no frills audio system smile.gif
What is your Phillips hu model?
Btw you can buy a good 2 channel amp and a entry level component set
Are u sure those jbl are ori cause never heard that model before icon_rolleyes.gif
Or buy a better hu and an entry level component

The buzzing sound because of interference of the amp
The source can be from the power supply cable or RCA cable or even worse the head unit itself

icic..thn there's another thing i wanna know..is the preamp really necessary? my fren told me i shouldn't use the crossovers with the preamp as it will cut away the sounds or something..either just use the crossovers alone or the preamp alone..is it true?

no, don't get caught in the mindset of every problem = "must change to this change to that"

troubleshoot the source of the sound.

considering engine on = sound, off = no sound, most likely alternator whine. and even then it isn't definite/100% until we can actually troubleshoot it ourselves. so yea don't be simply giving off advises if you're not sure about it tongue.gif

if you're having a budget setup (considering whatever you listed which are a bit below reputable brand for certain items), stick with a component set speakers (a pair of tweeters and mid bass for the door panels )with its original passive crossover will be better

cheap pre amps are only a waste of money and introduce unnecessary noise into the system and 1 more point to troubleshoot should anything happen (eg: grounding issue, alternator whine etc)

change front speakers, add one amp and sub or tube sub. RM1k can settle with branded items.

try and sell these first:
HU : cheap phillips brand with usb input
front speakers : genexis 6.5"
rear speakers : mohawk 5"
preamp : titanium digital t-4000

then replace with decent head unit and component set with the upgrade money plus sales money.
