Hello everyone, I'm new to this place, I hope I can get some good recommendations from you guys So I've read the stickied threads to get some basic idea plus basic terms and stuff, and I'll use the template given as reference - My ride: Proton Saga FLX - Prefers SQ/SPL/SQL: SQ or SQL (depends on the price and space required)- File format/medium used for my source: CD and USB(MP3) - Music genre: I listen to all kinds of stuff really except maybe stuff like techno etc.- Budget: Under 800 but if I really can get way better stuff by adding hundred or two more, I'll put it into consideration.- Setup type preferences: Not sure, a simple/standard one will suffice. Whats the difference between 2-way and 3-way? As for active/passive, I think I'll go with passive. - Other requirements (if any): The car is rather new (bought in April 2012), will installing the sound system void the warranty? I'm also thinking of changing HU to something with a bigger display plus I plan to install the rear camera thingy too. I don't really plan to get a woofer if it will take up space in my car, is it possible to have a good sound system without a woofer or with a small one that wont take up that much space? I'm totally new in this so any advice is appreciated. Oh and I'm currently working in Kuching. Thanks

Hi bro, looks like u have a tight budget here. The best way for you now is either change the HU first or change the front speakers to 2-way component speakers.. then later when u have more budget only do the other one (whether HU or 2-way component speakers). You may go for active subwoofer (which normally 8" and put underneath your driver seat) to have some bass effect. Music without decent bass (subwoofer) is a bit no-kick..

I guess due to the tight budget, no one else is interested to reply? . Hehe just kidding. Anyway yeah, I'm not trying to give the car a complete revamp in one go, maybe this month change front speakers, next month HU, then subwoofer.. I can afford a higher budget but due to my own lack of knowledge in this, I'd like to start slowly and not overspend first.. Think entry level or something like that.. As for speakers/hu/woofers.. Are there any recommendations regarding brands/types etc? Or should I just use the other thread about good/bad brands as reference?

In my case, i change my front component speaker first then next changing HU. You can check with Howie (favourite installer here in ICE forum) to ask for your budget component speakers. As long as you can afford a budget of RM500-600, you will get a decent good set. You may try Morel Maximo or Suprimo brand. Not bad for starter.

Thanks man. From my time reading the threads here, I can see Howie has a good reputation, the problem for me right now is that I'm living in Kuching at the moment although I might go back to KL once a month (or twice, depends) so maybe I can buy the stuff in KL and then bring them back with me although I'm scared that they will get damaged during the shipping process (I no longer trust baggage handlers at airports)..

Yes you better... sending via our local post may have risk of item lost oso. As he is a trustable installer, you can get genuine ICE products from him. Just PM him to find out what he can offer you. Then when you back to Kuching, find a local installer to help install lor.

use reputable couriers and insure your items so there are really minimal chances of breaking it rather than checking in luggage and risk even more.

Thanks for the advice but can you elaborate more? Reputable couriers such as? And how do you insure the items? Any suggestions on where I can shop for the stuff online? (within my price range that is..) I was in KL for two days last weekend, originally planned to drop by Howie's shop but some things came up and I couldnt make it. Sigh.
