Yup, Xserve RAID 14x500GB SATA, complete with applecare + the FC controller card too
As for the price, let's just say that its a good enough price that I didn't even think twice about it. Although I'm probably gonna ask myself what the heck I'm gonna do with it later though.. Most likely cart it to over to me office after playing with it for a few weeks. This post has been edited by fyire: Mar 9 2010, 10:11 PM |

QUOTE(Eithanius @ Mar 9 2010, 10:14 PM) you can pm me the price if such privacy is what you asked for... Its a dedicated storage rack, not a server.wish i had a stack of xserves for some serious DCs... but what the heck, Apple don't offer good choices of GC for GPGPU doesn't it... btw, Intel-based or PowerPC...? |

QUOTE(wei @ Mar 9 2010, 10:34 PM) The last Xserve RAID was in G4/G5 era. Opps yeah.. UDMA. My mistake. Too used to just using the term 'SATA' to describe anything that's non scsi these days. Are you sure your unit came with SATA bus controller? If I recall correctly they should be U-ATA. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xserve_RAID |

QUOTE(wei @ Mar 16 2010, 09:48 AM) hmm.. no, didn't take those pics. Was just doing some basic file transfer tests, coping in a bunch of files at 3GB size each. Recorded transfer speeds of up to 300mb per second writing to the rack |

you still can't beat these guys when it comes to custom jobs though
http://computer-choppers.com/ they were interviewed on BFM 89.9 before, and they were saying that they've got customers who paid up to USD50k to customize their MBPs too. |

QUOTE(Eithanius @ Mar 20 2010, 08:53 AM) well i couldn't imagine if their MBPs go haywire (not due to their mods) and replaced under warranty by Apple (if it is still cover by Apple considering such a heavy mod), but then again all they have is moolah... Well, if they can spend USD50k to mod a MBP, they can probably afford to get it fixed out of warranty too. I mean, the cost of out of warranty repairs is gonna be peanuts compared to the price of such a mod job. Even the original price of the MBP is peanuts compared to that. |

QUOTE(wei @ Mar 20 2010, 01:39 PM) If I can afford US$50K diamond/gold/gems platted Mac. I would not fix it. Just chuck it and get another one, nuff said. Can we come back to earth already. Well, buying a brand new one is not a problem, but its more of whether they feel like paying another USD50K to customize a new one or not |

QUOTE(raist86 @ Apr 2 2010, 05:56 PM) Storage is never gonna be a problem in my company... lol.. got a dedicated storage server with 16 tera hdd storage as main and another 16 tera as backup.. Meh, I got a client who's just bought a 100TB Isilon, and then were grumbling about lacking space again 3 months later. Never say storage never being a problem |
