err...need to ask sifu for short feedback here...
i got a powerbook and thinking getting a external monitor.
IS it worth spending extra $ to get Apple Cinema display? as compared to the Dell display? besides looking cool i mean...

Thanks...
sorry, hijack thread a little bit
*
If you want a screen as good as your powerbook or better, cinema display is the way to go.
If budget is your concern, then it's out of question.

Dell or ACD?? The dilemma faced by most people who wanna get screens for their macs... hehe..

IMO, the ACDs win hands down in terms of design for all 3 models... The Dells win hands down in terms of value for money (lower price, longer warranty etc)... A fair comparison would be the 2007WFP vs 20" ACD, 2407WFP vs 23" ACD, and the 3007WFP vs 30" ACD... The features are about the same for the 30" models from both manufacturers, except that the dell 30" has a card reader... The Dell 20" and 24" have more inputs, and not to mention the extra inch and card reader for the 24" model... The Dells have more flexible stands too... From most, but not all reviews, color accuracy is said to be better on the ACDs... Don't forget that when you buy the ACD separately from a mac, u can't bundle the APP together... So more money needed for extended warranty...

It all depends on whether you're willing to splash the extra cash for better design.. If you have the money, go ahead... I had a touch time deciding, rationality told me Dell but emotions swayed me towards the ACD... Eventually decided on a Dell 2407 with 5 years warranty.. Used the savings to buy a keyboard and griffin elevator... Still have extra from the price difference that I'll use to bump up my memory soon...

I enjoy the screen that I'm staring at and I know that I made the right decision, but deep down inside me the devil's voice still says I should've bought the aluminium enclosed screen... haha.. Read up the reviews, check out the screens in the flesh.. It'll make it easier for u to decide...

Not just the point of price tag and warranty. One most important aspect of the screen for pro usage is color accuracy. I'm personally using 30" Dell 3007WFP. I wasn't so happy with it. Few things, as the screen does not remember my brightness setting. Everytime I power on the screen I have to re-adjust the brightness. Color is no way near the Apple one, hence again the low price.

no worries smile.gif ... take note of what wei said as well, if color quality is your priority, u might wanna pick the ACD.. i'm not that particular about getting the perfect colour, so the dell was fine... the color isn't bad, it's just that it's not the best... If you wanna compare both side-by-side in the environment you're most likely to use it, buy both and return the one you don't like... Both Apple & Dell have full refund return policies, two weeks if i'm not mistaken tongue.gif

edit: sorry, not full refund return policies... just checked their websites... You'd have to pay for the delivery costs.. And apple charges 10% open-box fee.. ouch! buying both is not a good idea.. haha

Dell prices are with delivery factored in, and 3 years warranty. I bought one few months back, got a replacement unit cause the first one had ONE dead pixel. All the time delivered to my doorstep, and the faulty unit also collected from my doorstep, no extra cost. I must say their service is good!

bryanyz, bought it few years ago, cost around RM500, not sure what's the market price now. But you should be able to get one with SATA, e-SATA, Firewire800 & USB all in one.

i remembered the bulk....looooooooong time ago...it was either here or at mymug...

many of us havent switch to mac yet, even if we did, the ibooks didnt have firewire 800(since ibooks will most probably dominate switchers coz of it's cheaper price...
