“The 009s are truly amazing headphones. I smile every time I put them on. They are so transparent, had beautiful midrange and vocals, yet kick in the bass like the best Planars (LCD3s). Forget the Senn HD800s, or pretty much all others IMO. These will be an end game if you can afford them. They do need a good front and a decent amp. Best headphone in the world? I would say a resounding YES!” – Kaiti

AirPulse A200 (Model One) vs JBL LSR305 || Sound Demo

This is a big one IMO, AirPulse goes against my long time budget benchmark, the JBL LSR305. Both have similar sized woofers, both have tweeters recessed inside the horn. But that would be the end of similarities. The biggest difference between those two is the price, JBL is around 1/3 of price of AirPulse and it shows everywhere. The build quality, the features, and most importantly the sound quality. AirPulse is better than JBL in every sound category, bass tightness and depth, midrange quality, top end extension and air, soundstageing, You name it. Does it justify the price difference? In my opinion yes, but if You can not afford AirPulse worry not, as JBL is still the king of budget speakers (AirPulse is in a different category altogether because of its price).

The Edifier S880DB sound really amazing for anything I put through it. I thought the Edifier R1280DB offered a lot of inputs, but the Edifier S880DB takes it a notch further with the addition of USB input. The USB input feeds one of the best DACs in the market, the XMOS DAC, while the AptX support means you can enjoy good sound wirelessly. These speakers are also more compact than most of its peers in the higher end bookshelf speakers market, making them ideal for PC users who want a good pair of speakers without sacrificing too much space. Priced at RM899 on Lazada at the time of writing, the Edifier S880DB is a great option for those who prefer compact speakers that look modern without sacrificing on sound quality. It is also perfect for beginners who might not want to go through the trouble of picking their own DACs and amps. The XMOS DAC inside the Edifier S880DB is a really good one, and should be capable of fulfilling most users’ requirements. A standalone XMOS DAC can cost around RM512 on its own, making the Edifier S880DB a really good deal! It is definitely deserving of our Gold Pokdeward!

The Edifier R1700BT are beautiful, at least in my opinion. If they were a full size speaker I would be happy to make them the centerpiece of my living room but since they’re only a rather diminutive 25 cm high I’m perfectly fine to have them grace my desktop. With the added convenience of Bluetooth and a very reasonable price of around $149.99 they’re near perfect. If you’re in need of some desktop speakers for your movies, games and casual listening these should be on your radar. They’re a step up from most other offerings in the same price range and if you’re still not convinced just take another glance because they are downright stunning to look at.

If I had to put one word to the sound quality, it would be ‘balanced’. How do you get a woofer to give you the feel of the beat without sounding too bassy? I don’t know. But Edifier have gone and achieved it. Often sound systems with 2.1 configuration can be bass or treble heavy, but this one isn’t, and keeps everything balanced. On top of that, you still feel the beats, through your ears, and through your ears. Perfect for those parties to get everyone thumping!

When you add the build quality to its superb sound the Edifier MP700 seems like a real winner. Sure it’s not exactly cheap but the price isn’t outrageous either in context of what you’re getting for your money. Does this all sound overly positive to you? As a reviewer I try to remain as objective as possible but at the same time I want to give my honest opinion on things. With that said I think this one is an absolute gem and you have to hear it to believe it.

Now for the price, the Edifier H850 is possibly best in class, most headphones around this range have boosted bass, or non-existent highs, these do not. These actually have good balance across the board, yes they won't have the natural tone of high end models, or the effortless high end extension, but they do offer a very pleasant listening experience for an excellent price.

AirPulse A200 is fantastically neutral speaker, with open, detailed and transparent sound from top to bottom. Add to that very solid build quality and rich set of features, and suddenly its steep price becomes much more reasonable. I was reluctant to return them, I wish I had them for longer. AirPulse A200 lands on top of my wish list to become my new benchmark speaker soon (gotta start saving those pennies), and from now on I am looking forward to next products from AirPulse and Mr. Phil Jones without any anxiety;) Highly recommended.

The speakers pack in quite a punch, and the detail available is immense. The remote allows you to adjust between Music, Movie and News (people talking?), and it does not disappoint. The subwoofer definitely adds something that is missing from your usual set of speakers, and if you are the kind of person who likes his action movie, you are in for a treat. Every crash, every slice, every punch and every screech will be there for you to enjoy, and thanks to the subwoofer, feel!

To summarize, the Edifier XM6BT is a complete PC speaker set which comes with impressive sound quality and multiple connection choices. Under the budget range of RM300, it is one of the best option available in the market, especially if you need multiple connectivity options.

Overall, if you’re looking for a good pair of headphones on a budget, the Edifiers are a solid choice. Either for in-ear or over-ear, they provide a surprisingly solid sound for the price point.

The last of series of comparisons starring AirPulse and a transition to KEF X300A series of comparisons. Both speakers are close in price tag, yet they sound quite different. KEF X300A sounds rather dark with emphasis on midrange (with a bit of honky and nasal colorations) but recessed upper ranges, while AirPulse is more linear, neutural and detailed with more present upper midrange and treble. For me AirPulse is a winner here. Signal for this comparison was fed to both via analog inputs from external DAC. Cheers!

Being an avid co-op player, gaming with buddies with the G4 was the real test for me. Voices came through loud and clear without any echoing or interferences. Mic-wise, I didn’t have any complaints about volume, trying to decipher what I was saying or environmental noise (I have an extraordinarily loud cooling fan). However, people did use words like “swimmy” and “muffled” to describe my voice quality. Hopefully, that’s not because I sound like that in real life.

Despite that, I found the recording quality pretty good. My voice sounded clear enough to use on a recording and the mic did a decent job of dealing with things like sibilance and breath noises. For all you mouth breathers, you know how important this is.
