Hmm icic... At what circumstances only need this type of RAM if I may ask?
*
From what I've known.... Only if you are building an AMD APU rig (Trinity/Llano based) then a high performance RAMs are required... The iGPU can benefit from faster RAMs...

If you are going for the Prodigy .... consider the SG09 instead... smaller than the Prodigy in terms of volume.... and fits a MATX board... along with tower based coolers as well...

hey sifu, thinking of getting a budget gaming rig. Budget is around 2.2k. looking at I5 3470 and also prev gen nvidia gtx 560 graphic card.
is the graphic card adviseable for the price/performance. I understand the card is around RM600++, is there better options for graphic card at this price range?
*
You can get a HD7850 2GB.... or if you want to sacrifice the CPU... you can possibly get a HD7870...

thanks for the suggestion bro.. but what about Nvidia card.. dunno just leaning towards Nvidia at the moment tongue.gif

Added on November 27, 2012, 10:32 am

wow! thanks bro for the suggestion. but for the 7850, what is the comparable card on Nvidia's 6 series? or ATI gives more bang for the buck.
*
None TBH.... Unless you are talking about 560Ti-448 core w/2GB VRAM that's another story...
650Ti competes with the HD7850 1GB....

My little brother rig:

Possessor : AMD athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5400+ (2 CPUs), ~ 2.8GHz with Hyper 212 Plus cooler.

Memory : 4GB Ram DDR2 (Brought DDR3 1600 4GBx2 G.SKILL RAM)

MotherBoard : GA-MA770-DS3

Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT

Power Supply : Huntkey AFPC 700W. (Reuse if possible)

Casing: (Reuse)
- 1920xs1080p Monitor
- play all modern at High/Medium setting games.
- No OC
- Only gaming rig.
With maximum budget RM800, how should I upgrade this old rig ?
*
hmm.gif Looks like you would need an overhaul... considering the board only supports a Phenom I.., and doesn't support a Phenom II....
Sell the CPU and GPU and go for this...
Pentium G620-RM174
MSI H61M-P31-RM149
Sapphire HD7850 1GB-RM599
Total: RM922...
Overbudget already.... unless you sell the CPU and the GPU...
I'd recommend you to get the 2GB version of the card considering some games may require more than 1GB VRAM in 1080p...

9600GT won't be sufficient for full HD resolution unless you go for very low settings...

Sifus~

I'm currently building my gaming rig as follows:

i5 3470 (bought)
ASUS P8Z77-V LX (bought)
Kingston value ram DDR3 8GB (up for suggestion)
Best Graphic card within 700-850 range (please suggest:D)
HDD 1TB (I suppose whcihever brand doesnt rly matter. SSD perhaps an option in the future)
DVD-RW (doesnt rly matter
Casing (I suppose this doesnt matter also, i'll just choose whichever interest me)
PSU (thinking of AEROCOOL STRIKE-X Series PSU 600W 80 Plus Bronze = RM219 cos it looks nice. Or shld i go for something else?)
23" LED Monitor (60hz) (reuse from old rig)
MS Sidewinder KB & Mouse (reuse from old rig also)

Please recommend any changes i shld make from above biggrin.gif
Thanks!
*
For GPU.... Consider getting a Sapphire HD7870 2GB for RM839... Best card you can get ATM for your budget.
Value RAMs are good enough.
Any DVD writers will be suffice, but please avoid Samsung for DVD drives as they tend to fail a lot.
Personally I wouldn't want that PSU to power up your rig TBH... An Enermax NAXN 550W will do the trick, plus it's around the same price as the Aerocool one.

A little overbudget, but this is pretty good, considering you have a true quad core CPU, plus you have a pretty good iGPU for games. wink.gif Oh, you can try to cut down the budget by getting a cap ayam Casing+PSU..., but not worth it. wink.gif

You can consider :

Bitfenix Prodigy as a chassis at RM269..

*
Get Silverstone SG05-450 instead.... even smaller.... Prodigy is massive for a mini-ITX case.
10.8 litres only (half the volume of the Prodigy)
