want to ask,
is it ok to buy ivybridge cpu or wait for haswell?
since haswell is 1150 not same as ivybridge 1155,?
thanks..
*
if you're not in a rush, then waiting for Haswell is a better decision, though there is no telling when is it gonna hit our shores even after the official launch

and yes, it's not same, there will be different mobos with different sockets and chipsets to replace the current 1155 to cater for Haswell...

but IMHO Haswell is kinda far off still.. normally manufacturers would have been talking about their new chipsets and mobos already right before the launch of a new socket

so the early haswell will hit local market is after 2014?
i not that rush, just want to build new desktop cos now only have notebook as my main pc.
and since july will stay at kl for few day, might as well get part from kl, as my local pc shop only sell old stock...
*
No idea when it will arrive and even so when the prices will stabilize.

if it's difficult to get stuff from where you are, why not just order your components from the retailers at LYN ??

Thanks a bunch..
In coming future if I wanted to upgrade, will any of this cause limitation?
e.g. Cannot upgrade further gfx card due to MoBo - some sort like that?

Thanks again smile.gif
*
you could upgrade any single component but you will not be able to perform overclock and fo SLi/CFX on the H61

intel i5 3470
asrock H77 Pro4/MVP
1600MHz 4gbx2
sapphire 7850 2GB OC
1TB HDD
<suggestion PS below 180?>
k280/380

mainly for gaming.. can this spec last for next 2 years at least?
*
it could, depending on the types of games you play and game technology at the time that is, could never tell if newer games will require how much more processing power.. but it can be solved by lowering down the details I guess tongue.gif

and for that setup, just get the FSP Hexa 500W for about RM150 shouldbe sufficient to power it all ;P

Thanks for the suggestion. Btw, did I need upgrade my cooler master V8 or is more than enough for overclock the i5?
*
Should be sufficient for OC, just clean the fins from time to time, wanna go extreem? then go WC....

you could also make a trip to the north pole for cooler temsp tongue.gif jk jk

How around the corner is around the corner? I have plenty of time.

Excellent build, btw. Has everything I wish I'd see on it!

Just want to know a general knowledge about RAMs: 1x8 vs 2x4, what's the diff?
*
Noo telling when exactly Haswell is coming, if you can wait just wait but if not, no biggie going for the current tech

Almost no different in terms of performance for normal use so just get the highest capacity you can per stick so that you can upgrade more in the future

Actually what he meant was when itll arrive in Msia shores biggrin.gif

Afaik electronics take a month to arrive
*
+1, takes more than a month IMHO, as soon as they arrive prices are jacked up to take advantage of early adopters so it's usually best to wait until the price has stabilized before buying... there is also the question of drivers and software utilization to use the new tech effectively whistling.gif

no but because haswell processors have deeper low power states
some current psu are compatible like most in corsair range some dont
refer to this sos

interesting... hmm.gif not too sure how old is considered older PSU... I'm predicting a wave of problems here later as unscrupulous salespeople might try to push old tech off their shelves

Oh. Uhm, below 3k preferably.

Usage:- the usual:- gaming, dramas, normal ms office app for work.

i noob at computer hardware, trying my best to search for every term and its usages. lol.

the first one (they assembled and sell), the second one is from ASUS's shop.
*
in that case.. try...

Intel i5 3470 RM559
MSI B75MA-P45 RM229
kingston 8gb ram RM174
WD Blue 1Tb HDD RM194
Sapphire 7870 XT RM779
FSP Hexa 500W RM149
Asus DVD-RW RM59
Xigmatek Asgard Chassis RM169
LGIPS234V led ips 23" RM539

Total RM2851

should be sufficient for you... the extra $$$ use for KB, mouse & speakers

hmm, should I bring the spec you mentioned to the shops and ask them for a quote?

dont buy brand-readily made CPU?
*
Yes you should copy the spec and bring to shop for quote, they will replace equivalent hardware to you if they don't have stock but it's best to check back here to be safe... have your mobile device with u and login at Starbucks/McD/KFC after you have the quotes to get your answer faster wink.gif

QUOTE(ezmeer94 @ May 16 2013, 10:44 AM)
the price for the hardware is just not worth it : doh.gif

But I guess I will follow you sifus advices!
*
erm.. do note that the price quoted here are excluding MS Office and the OS.. if you wanna include that hen it's another matter already

Uhm, if I want to include that, how much would it cost? and any other rig set to complement the price?

The whole true copy Ms Office apps is around RM200 right?
*
Need to make some compromises...

Intel i5 3470 RM559
MSI B75MA-P45 RM229
kingston 8gb ram RM174
WD Blue 500GB HDD RM164
Sapphire 7850 2GB RM599
FSP Hexa 500W RM149
Asus DVD-RW RM59
Xigmatek Asgard Chassis RM169
LGIPS234V led ips 23" RM539

Total RM2641

MS Win7 Home Premium RM289 (OEM) / RM379 (retail)
or
MS Win8 OEM RM229

MS Office 2010 Home & retail RM199 - 3users
or
MS Office 2013 Home & retail RM239 - 1User

lowest possible to pay based on the above is RM3069
Highest possible to pay based on the above is RM3259

and that is still excluding KB & mouse sweat.gif

QUOTE(hirow @ May 17 2013, 12:48 PM)
Hi all, help me quote a rig with monitor and without monitor with the budget is rm2.3k. Purpose is playing games mostly, surfing and watch movie. Exclude the peripheral stuff..I want to compare what item I get with that budget if include monitor and without monitor. Thanks all
*
Much os the same for the hardware

Intel i5 3470 RM559
MSI B75MA-P45 RM229
kingston 4gb ram RM94
WD Blue 500gb RM164
Sapphire 7850 2gb RM599
FSP Hexa 500W RM149
Asus DVD-RW RM59
Xigmatek Helios 231/232 RM109

Total RM1962

you have RM338 to add on a monitor so best to go with a 21" to stay on budget, though from exp you could get one that's slightly bust your budget and negotiate for a discount until you meet your budget point if you're getting everything from the same shop

Much thanks  biggrin.gif

QUOTE(aeronix @ May 17 2013, 04:30 PM)
I wanna know too if ACI is really expensive. The other day I went to ask for a brochure of their products they say at the end of May they will have it. Did you ask ACI to quote your comp?
*
Looks like the situation is still the same... I normally will order from Computer Bargain on the 3rd floor there, the aunty there been quite nice over the years, dunno if shes still there or not haha been a few years since I last visited Karamunsing ever since I'm in KL:p

I agree that things are quite expensive in Karamunsing but where else can we get parts physically in KK? lolz otherwise, just order online in LYN Garage sale wink.gif
