Just a word of warning: I used to have Bridgestone ER60, even though they didn't have much profile left they were pretty good. Good grip and handling. Then I switched to the XM2. Grip... nah, not really. You brake hard, it blocks up. Corner hard, car will just go straight. Advantage: Slightly (really slightly) lower fuel consumption... I guess. The difference is so small it's hard to say. Road noise is also reduced. But really, the lack of grip is a bit scary (though now that they are worn in it seems to be a bit better). In the wet they seem to do just fine, no problems so far. Although the car just kept moving forward in my car park once... the tyres were still wet from outside at that time.

One more thing: I was always wondering why there are so many idiots driving in my car park with squeaking tyres. I tried hard with the ER60 (when there was no one around), but no matter how fast I drove I could get any noise. With the XM2 they basically always squeak, even at low speeds.

So yes, they are comfortable, they'll probably last a long time, that's all good. But they seem to be a bit lacking in the most important department, grip. (Again it seems to have improved a bit, but I was happier with the ancient Bridgestone).

well to be fair, you just can't have everything (price, grip, treadwear, NVH)

tires that squeak, are typically of harder compound. they typically last longer on the treadwear, however when it comes to grip, well just drive slower i suppose. (try using a soft vs hard rubber in comparison over wet glass biggrin.gif)

Yup. But maybe not everyone realizes that you do pay for the longer durability. I was aware that the grip levels weren't going to be superb, but still I was a bit disappointed (the ER60 I believe weren't exactly super grippy slicks either).

Energy tyres are made to last rather than perform.

Get pilot range if u're into performance. Won't regret.

Tried both and regretted getting xm2.

I got my PS3 at RM265 (Melaka) in July.. Not sure about the price now.. I think it was a decent price although the tyre was like 10 months old but it was good enough for acceptance.

Kindly love the tyre and non-gripped tyre just scared me in experience so I am not going to save money when it comes to the 4 donuts that are keeping in touch with the ground.

Cheers

Btw: 195/55/R15

To be honest I don't know. And in recent times I haven't had any bad experiences with them. Still not as good as the ER60 I had before, but acceptable. Or I drive slower. Maybe they weren't worn in yet? But if you are looking for grip I'd look elsewhere, at the cost of being not so long lasting, having slightly higher FC perhaps and being a bit noisier. Your choice.

I did read a test by a Russian (?) magazine... well, I tried to read, and there they tested both the XM2 which is mostly sold in ASEAN countries and some other energy efficient tyre from Michelin that is also energy efficient. The other one scored well, might even have won the test, the XM2 was one of the worst tyres in the test. (Though perhaps it was too cold and the XM2 is designed for hot countries?)

just changed all four GY NCT5 to XM2 size 195/60/15 at Batu Caves area. RM270 per piece and extra RM20 for balancing + alignment. got free gift from michelin to check tyre pressure.

first review the tyre really less noise and good rolling resistance. fuel economy wise will need to check in long term wink.gif

I plan to replace my old 16" tyres soon - doing almost 50k now on these tyres.

Is XM2 qualified for my criteria below based on priority?

Quiet/comfort > grip > performance

Just changed my 4 tyres to michelin xm2 at Puchong prima 195/60/R15, price $285/pc! I'm not satisfied with this shop because later I found out he don't own a balancing machine! The boss claim that he do it at others branch which it takes only 10 minutes. Very unprofessional! Other than this, he replace the tube and charge me $15/pc without agreed by me. I check the manufactured date on one of the tyre and it state 4712, which means already 6 months old and it's alright with me. When reach home, I check the other 3, one is 4712, one is 4112 and third one is 3012! Arrrrgh....it's 10 months old! I feel cheated! The shop name is Top One Tyre and Auto Car Service (the shop has a big Yokohama signboard) Anyway, hope this XM2 won't disappoint me.

Just changed all 4 tyres 215 60R16 to Michelin XM2 at Syarikat Hin Leong Pekan Sg Besi, these guys are tyre experts and been around for a long time. Costs me RM425 per piece, free alignment and balancing and one free tyre rotatiion after 10k km. Tyres feel amazingly comfy, not sure about handling and grip though but my car is Teana and more suited for family driving. All tyres manufactured in Dec 2012. Also, received Michelin first aid kit. Really happy with my purchase...so far. Continental CPC2 is RM360/piece and Goodyear Excellence same price..

I just change my tyres Michelin Energy XM2. For RM430 per piece at SL Tyre shop at Jalan Kuchai Lama. Damage 1740 which include the 4 pieces tube and free alignment and balancing. Was the price ok??
Another thing is that when doing alignment. I saw the figure on the machine was 8 degree malalignment. Then they tried to fix it. But even then the figure was still 5. Then they told me that cannot depend the machine sometimes. They know that the alignment is correct already. Are they telling the truth? Or just bull? Thanks for those who might know what is going on with some guiding lights!

didn't specify size and expect us to answer if the price is ok? 15" xm2 is 2xx price while a 17" is maybe 4xx to 5xx.
if i say the price is not ok then how? you go cry at the shop?

and the alignment is it 0.8 degrees or 8 degrees? if 8 degrees, means you had serious accident and the car and probably be sent to scrapyard already.

changed all my 4 tyres to energy xm2 215/60R16 for rm400 a piece last week at setapak..initially, want to change to conti cc5, but the shop don't have the new tyres..all with 2011 stock

free balancing and alignment..all manufactured date of the tyres are 2113..which is may13...so far, less noise, previously used conti cpc2

To me, XM2 not worth the money. When I installed it end Dec 12, the tyres were a bit bumpy. It started to get noisy after i clock in 500km. Can't really corner well on both wet and dry. Skid once when cornering in rain. Braking on dry also okok only. The only good thing I will say about this tyre is it can really last. Already clocked about 30k km (done twice rotation - once at 10k km and another time at 15k km). Still got about 40% groove. Given the way I drive, I think this last long enough. Used D01 and ZE912 last time it can't even let me go pass 28k km with 2 rotations too.

I am same like u....use 2 XM2 front tyres only.

I tested wet condition during raining day.

The grip still firm on the road surface running 80 km/hr.

The grip is better than shitty goodyear duraplus.

I prefer quiet and safety tyre ...would it significant different in quietness from ST3 compare to PS3 and XM2......not a racer by the way smile.gif

no i dunno the price.

if safety, i think PS3/ST3/XM2 all up to standard. if prefer quiet and safety, the the obvious choice i think is ST3, since you mention you not a racer. and the quietness comparison between all these tyres... well, i've no idea at all! you have to ask a person who has actually used both ST3 & PS3, preferably on a same car before.

well, when comes to quietness and smoothness, since it is relatively new, of course it is much better than the stock tyres which were the Bridgestone. However, may be personal preferences, Michelin always my choice of tyre and i have been using different types of Michelin tyres in different cars such as xm1 (myvi and wira), XM2 (PC), PS3 (vios), Primacy LC (Camry and Prius) and Primacy 3ST (Camry). I can only compare with Bridgestones, Continental and Goodyear caz those were the stock tyres for some of the cars above. In term of performance (handling and gripping), continental was good on Camry but in term of quietness, smoothness and comfortable, Primacy LC and Primacy 3ST are much better, though Continental was much more expensive than Primacy 3ST (RM500/pc). PS3 were on vios before, in term of quietness, gripping and comfort, similar with Bridgestone stock tyres, just a bit more smoother and softer. XM1 & XM2, i feel that XM2 is much more quiet and gripper than XM1, and XM1 was relatively a bit more noisier. Primacy LC is much better than Bridgestone stock tyre on my Prius in term of everything, including quietness, softness, smoothness, gripping and comfort level.
Well, this is my personal preferences and opinion on Michelin tyres. TQ.

Hahahha, just a bit to share only bro. The Primacy 3ST I have got it replaced on my Camry before Raya, was done under to the Raya promotion, RM500 per piece, 215/50R17, nitrogen gas, balancing and alignment plus RM30 petrol voucher. Since the replacement, i had traveled about 700 km, from city drive to to coaster road, but still relatively new, can't tell much about it. However, my experience with 3ST can be considered as so far so good. In term of gripping, much better than Primacy LC. Better smoothness and quietness but rolling resistance, i think it is just normal as on the afternoon, i can feel the rolling resistance quite significantly, especially under the humid and hot afternoon.
I am not sure what type of expectation you would want for your car. Like me, caz i always travel long distance and i always put comfort and smoothness as priority, so 3ST will be good enough for me. But if you opted for performance and handling, may be PS3 will be much suitable for you if comfort isn't your priority. But this doesn't mean PS3 is not quiet or smooth, just their comfort, quiet and smoothness are at the normal level. I tried PS3 on vios before, i feel grippy and handling; better cornering and performance but it was quite bouncy and noisy. Well, nothing wrong with PS3, just individual preferences.

Thanks for sharing briantft, i prefer comfort and quiet too smile.gif

QUOTE(briantft @ Jul 31 2014, 11:05 AM)
Well, nothing wrong with PS3, just individual preferences.

just changed all four GY NCT5 to XM2 size 195/60/15 at Batu Caves area. RM270 per piece and extra RM20 for balancing + alignment. got free gift from michelin to check tyre pressure.

first review the tyre really less noise and good rolling resistance. fuel economy wise will need to check in long term  wink.gif

Goodyear nct5 is the worst tyre in our market, bad performance and noisy tyre, will never use even got it free. Lucky you changed it.

I drive a prius too! I am looking for the quietest and most comfortable tyres. Sounds like 3ST is the one to go, from your experience? Which size should I choose? I am still on stock rim R15.

Just asking here. If one prefers comfort and quiet over performance, is Energy XM2 a more logical choice over the PS3?

I am using Primacy LC for my Prius, 15" stock rim, 205/60. Compare to xm2, i realized that Primacy LC is relatively softer and quieter, and I have been using it for 1.5 yrs 40k km already, still have about 60% of tread left. I got the tyre from Serdang, RM260 per piece including balancing and new tyre valve, top up RM30 for alignment. However, i heard Primacy LC is slowly obsolete and it is not easy to find already. Your another option is xm3, though i feel it is much harder than Primacy LC but in term of comfort, i feel it will be better than Pilot Sport 3, which i had used it on my previous ride before, VIOS. I feel that PS3 was bouncy and a bit of harder than xm3, but in term of handling and braking, i can feel it was much better than xm3. Primacy 3ST only available smallest 16", not for 15".

yup. i enquired the Michelin XM2 at the continental shop in are d'sara, RM275 per piece with B+A. (credit card no extra charge)

But i ended up buying it at him leong at klang for RM220 per piece with Balancing only. Alignment RM20, plus metal valve for RM10 each. credit card charge 2%, so end up pay cash for a cheaper deal.

yeah, we should. there are a few shops around this area (with tax some more). most of them charge a cheaper price and do a better work.

also avoid the shop with the red colour total signage, the one facing the "hou yao kei" restaurant. the workers there will tell you everything needs to be changed. absorber working fine, he will tell you your absorber leaking, needs changing (they charge not cheap some more).

the door handle loosen, cannot revert it back after pull back, that guy told me, oh the door handle needs to be changed completely. someone just did it for free for me by putting in some lubricant and viola.

service brake pad for rm35? next few shops away can get rm20 for the same thing.

Anyone have long term review on XM2? How does it change after more than 10K km? Does it gets noisier? How does the grip changes as the tyre age? Is the LRR properties changes?

Noise?
Dry Grip?
Wet grip?
LRR ?
Comfort?
Other issues?

Hello....

anyone can help to enlighten me for my doubt and issue happened to my XM2.

in 2012 Nov, i changed 4 brand new XM2 tyres. now its Jan 2015, initially my P2 service agent told me tyre got "crack"

was shock and go check, the so called "crack" appeared on 4 tyres.

few weeks later, i went back to tyre shop tht i change my tyres, the staff inspected and told me its sign of tyre hardening. its small crack on the surface of tyre, not on side wall....

This "hardening" issue were told is not covered by warranty....

anyone else facing similar issue???

If got budget, go for PS3. XM2 is for normal cruising and not good for cornering and noisy if go up to certain mileage.

It is a good premium tyre to be used in daily basis. No regret to own 2 set since the first day I owned the vehicle up to today.

Remembered my complains?

Updates: today (16 Feb 2015)

i made a FB complains to Michelin, and today was the appointment for checking.
2 personnel from Michelin, checking, and asking A-Z about my tyres...

final conclusion: They offering XX% of my XM2 value based on the remaining thread on tyres.

decided not to take the offer, as i was assured its still safe to drive, expected another 1 year to drive on my current tyre.

Time to look for new brand next year!

Hi,

I'm looking for size 205/55/16. Any recommended shop shah alam or pj? Perhaps full address.

Just bought 205/55/R16 for my naza rondo last 2 weeks @ glenmarie shah alam 350 per piece. Free air valve & balancing, alignment half price.

Really satisfied drive from klang-perlis-muadzam-kuala terengganu-klang. Almost 2000km driving..

Using XM2 185/65R15 for my Livina, about time to change but still see good levels.

Just wanted to ask whether 6% GST is making XM2 more expensive or cheaper due to reduction in Sales Tax?

XM2 is budget tyre while PS3 is a premium all rounder tyre
If PS3 is available in your size,go for that

Michelin xm2 195/55 r15 - rm220/pc (Chin Wheel Labuan)

Just change 4 tyres Michelin XM2 195/55 r15 for my vios 2012 last week. Before this using original stock tyre Bridgestone Potenza RE080 185/60 r15.
Plan to bought same tyre as stock tyre..but after few chit chat with shop owner about quiet and comfort tyre..changed my mind and choose Michelin XM2 195/55 r15 although price diff almost rm30 between bridgestone potenza. Luckily, michelin is on Raya Promotion now and im able to get free video camcoder and phone holder.

Drive out from the shop, im little bit confused why the tyre is not so quiet compare to re080, but then i guess maybe this is new set tyre and need few km to get at its best. After using for week, still feeling not satisfied with xm2 tyre..comfort and quiet not as good as re080. Definitely big mistake on choosing xm2 than re080.

I have used XM2 for almost 2 years (42k KM done), this tyre was never a quiet tyre. It's the WORST tyre I had ever used, super noisy and bumpy. Falken 912 Ziex, Michelin PS3, continental cc5.

Now after changing to michelin Primacy 3ST, it's a whole new experience cause it's so quiet and comfortable and it has a good braking distance and grip. I will say much much quieter than all the above but in term of handling PS3 will be the best.

With all the hype of XM2 quietness, I was left disappointed, perhaps too high expectation.

Used XM1 and a happy customer, tried XM2 for 2 of cars, still feel very normal.

Hmmmm.. Maybe should look something else jor

Hello....

anyone can help to enlighten me for my doubt and issue happened to my XM2.

in 2012 Nov, i changed 4 brand new XM2 tyres. now its Jan 2015, initially my P2 service agent told me tyre got "crack"

was shock and go check, the so called "crack" appeared on 4 tyres.

few weeks later, i went back to tyre shop tht i change my tyres, the staff inspected and told me its sign of tyre hardening. its small crack on the surface of tyre, not on side wall....

This "hardening" issue were told is not covered by warranty....

anyone else facing similar issue???

Me too. After few mths using noticed cracked & worn out at outer tire shoulder. Went back to the tire shop & he said its normal. He said it's because car mileage is very low & always parked the car under the hot sun. went to another Michelin dealer & was ask to do alignment & balancing. Asked me have I changed absorber & mounting cause he said worn out absorber might also caused this problem. Told him I have already changed to new set of absorber before changing to XM2. give up.....this is my 1st & last of Michelin.

You might save a little off your fuel bill by using these low rolling resistance XM2s. It's fine for city and highway drives, provided you don't take corners at above average speeds. If you drive like I do, which is to attack corners quite frequently, the sides of the XM2s will chip off and crack, bit by bit. These tires aren't made for cornering at fast speeds because of its soft sidewalls.

mine already crack, lots of minor cracks at the edge of tire after 3 years, I do corner a bit hard because rushing most of the time, not sure it is due to hard cornering. But ya it doesnt grip as good but I think rolling resistance can feel less. Being on XM2 since 2011, apart from cracking, so far so good

I read that low rolling resistance tires by Michelin that contains silica compound are likely to exhibit this tire chipping trait. Time to move away to a tire with stronger, stiffer sidewalls so that you can attack corners.

I've used 2 sets of XM2s and 1 set of XM1s. All had the same tire chipping problem.

It appears that the micro cracks are normal. I thought my XM2 having premature aging. I rotate/align the tyres at 20k km, could that be a factor that contribute to the cracks?

If safety is my may concern, should I purchase tyres with higher rolling resistance?

How does XM2 (RM240) perform compared with Hankook H308 (RM175) and Continental CC5 (RM210)?

The micro cracks on the external surface of XM2 is most likely not from your rotation. It's definitely due to their compound and our driving habits of subjecting them to high cornering speeds/stress.

You can try other energy saving tires if you are not at ease with the micro cracks on XM2.

You will lose dry and wet grip with CC5 coming from XM2. Haven't tried Hankook yet so I can't comment. Have you considered Bridgestone Potenza Andrenalin RE003?

So far the shops I asked did not have RE003 for my 195/60R15. Viking at RM180 is tempting. Any comments on Viking? Not too concern on noise or fuel, just need comparable grip and braking.

Viking is the Norwegian brand of Continental Tires. At that price it might be worth a try. I imagine performance would be similar to CC5.

I came here wondering how to ask/explain the cracks and its nicely being discussed.... icon_rolleyes.gif
I dont consider myself a fast driver, my MX2 is on a Sentra 1997 car, yes 19 years old. I dont take corners at like crazy speeds (but not slow speeds), and drive max 140kmh on highway for a few KM between home n work daily.

My front ones (or atleast been in front more often) are rather cracked, and the back ones are moderately cracked... at what point is it unsafe? Braking is still 100% fine, rain grip solid. Its 3.5(?) years old, 40k km give or take.

If you're ferrying kids or other previous cargo, I'd change now. If you're the only occupant in the Sentra, I'd say change after another 12 months of use. At 30k km, mine felt like it was starting to lose grip. At 40k km, I changed it.

Its 3.5(?) years old, 40k km give or take.

having this xm2 on my myvi for a year and half, around 20k km.. so far i am satisfied. happy with the grip and it is cutting thru the water puddle like hot knife on butter. Just dont expect UHP tire performance and you are good to go.

Just changed 195/65/15 @RM238 a piece, GST and balancing included.

The stocks are week 34 2016.

Can feel the difference straight away after changing. My old tyres were from stock Hyundai Elantra, which is Hankook. Did not bother to check out the model.

I'm from JB btw.

follow up feedback for this tire

this tire is really hard lol
after 10k km, the threads still look like new(rotate once). hardly any wear
altogether, i have done 20k km with it on. if you ask me would i buy it again if i have the chance? it is a yes from me. It is a well balanced eco tire, low rolling resistance, above avg wet dry grips, quite resistance to aquaplaning as it cut thru puddle like hot knife thru butter, long thread life(expect to last at least 60k - 80k for me from my judgement). what's the downside?????? $$ lor..

Dear All, need some guidance to troubleshoot my Tyre issue. One of my Tyre Michelin XM2 is getting flat in 5-6 days. took to two Tyre shop, they found nothing. Submerged to water tank, no leaking. Change valve to new also. Tyre is only 2 years old & no significant wear & tear. What else I am missing here ? The Tyre shop is pushing me to change the Tyre, but I am not convinced. Please suggest.

Happened once the same situation, cant find the leak when submerged. In the end, tyre taken out from rim. The inner side of the tyre checked and finally found the cause of the leak. Sometimes, tyre passed the submerge test but not from visible inspection at the inner side of tyre

I had an old tyre start to leak at the rim seal. A small piece on the inside is folded in . So might held if the tyre is remounted.

Thanks for all the tips on my tyre leaking issue. I also suspect the same. Gonna ask to another shop to remove the tyre from rim entirely & inspect the inner part of it. Will update if that solve the issue. btw, I have ruled out that someone intentionally flat the tyre . Coz this is still happening, even though the car parked inside my hi-security condo.

My 4 michelin XM2 tyres 195 55 15 being used for 4 years @90k+ km, so far so good and satisfy with the performance, time to change, not much tread for both front tyres

That day Continental quoted me for rm190 tyre and rm150 for Viking, Bridgestone quoted rm155 for ecopia

For a frequent highway user like me, putting safety and fc into consideration, which option should i go for? Or just stick with XM2?

if u choose continental and bridgestone,be prepare the tyre will wear faster.xm2 is good for long lasting tyre.90k+ lol..
fc consideration i doubt would have much difference.
are 3 are eco tyres category.sidewall of xm2 is harder than continental btw.

continental apa tyre they quote?

Not sure i dont really fond viking.

ecopia is used by bezza. my god bezza tyre pressure very high one.
With ecopia and super high tyre pressure they only can achieve good fc (as advertised)

Just changed a pair Michelin XM2 to a new pair of XM2 after over 5 years of usage for Myvi. Old ones still got thread but unfortunately it's too old. Honestly, XM2s are really good tyres as they are silent, comfortable and grippy enough for normal drive.

Just changed a pair Michelin XM2 to a new pair of XM2 after over 5 years of usage for Myvi. Old ones still got thread but unfortunately it's too old. Honestly, XM2s are really good tyres as they are silent, comfortable and grippy enough for normal drive.

i thought XM2 can use up to 10years if haven't botak ?

I don't want to take the risk. If over 5 years I'll change it regardless even if the thread is still good.

Hahaha, I changed a pair of my XM2 at 6 years old of about 110,000 km with 2 mm thread depth left.
According to an image (from Continental Tyre) I uploaded here before, in allowing up to 10 years usage post production, I could have prolonging its usage till 1.6 mm left fully complying with tyre manufacturer/association requirements.

Wow that's really maximizing it. Won't the rubber hardened over 5 years of usage?

Yes, it hardened.
Not only that , it hardened 'severely' at 6 years/110,000 km usage, indeed.
Hardening of tyre in itself (whether in use or in storage) , is never a criteria of discontinuing tyre service ......
as is often expounded as 'truth' in this forum, which I consider as myth as due respect. notworthy.gif

Continental says :-

Continental only recommends, but it never requires , tyre replacement 10 years post manufacturing.
Check with a loyar burok friend meaning of : recommends vs requires.

The image I uploaded earlier is from a Continental handbook, in case you are told by a tyre 'engineer' otherwise.
Yes, 3 years or more spare tyre is still usable, but use it up at earliest opportunity possible.
Meanwhile, you may want to access the spare tyre soonest and reverse the placement to ensure uniformity or evenness for future use.

Hahaha, my CC1 that came original from my wife's car is also already 6+ years old and the tread are actually still quite thick! But got obvious cracks already and yes already hardened hence the already lousy grip tire becomes even lousier if that's even possible! laugh.gif So if really want to continue to use I think still can, just like what Continental said. (Michelin also provides warranty up to 6 yrs for their tires). However, having said so, I had previous experience with a Dunlop, which I use for almost 5 yrs before I changed them. You know what, the tires looked perfectly fine at a glance and they did perform fine right until that time BUT when they dismantle them from the rims, suddenly most of the sidewall rubber collapsed/came off the carcass, cracking all over! I was like shit, just a few weeks ago I still drove them to over 200kph, I suppose God still loves me after all eh! smile.gif So yeah, even though tires might last that long, just be more cautious inspect them more carefully as they get old, especially if you drive long distances on highway speeds. use them at your own risk I suppose.

7 year old spare tyre unused ?
I think you better find ways to quickly put it into use ..........
as manufacturers do recommend tyre exceeding 6 year post production be not put into use though .
The above '10 year' recommendation is for tyre in use.

Using XM2 on Almera. Changed in 40k in 2015 and current mileage is 70k 2017 yet the thread looks new especially for the rear. Looks like this tires are made to last long despite hard cornering and long distance driving.

so sad my XM2 on my myvi started to show sign of dry rot.. recently making noise when turning multistorey car park. to me a sign of losing grip easily.. even after B&A done.. Cracked and peel at outer rib, both front and rear... 3 years.. 35k KM.. only.. rotate every 9 or 10k KM.. pump to 230kpa monthly. not an aggressive driver.. do not think is user problem.

i used to use stock conti cpc2. now discontinued so tried xm2, didnt like it coz ride too harsh (eco tyres thus rubber was hard, didnt eat up bumps and road imperfections well). so now using BS ep300. also not as comfortable as Conti but not as hard as XM2. im avoiding cc6 due to many bad reviews. was thinking of uc6 conti as well. in the end got good deal for the ep300 and went to purchase it. ride factor, being eco tyres, ride is hard but not as hard as the xm2. didnt have goodyear assurance for my size, if not i would have tried those.

XM2 is good for approximately 100,000km & more. Wife's car is on it's second set of XM2s.

Yes. I'm impressed with it. When we changed to her second set, there was 3mm tread left on the first set Maybe good for a couple more thousand km. According to Toyota, 2mm is the absolute minimum.

Even michelin themselves (with their vested interest), say can use up till 1.6mm safely (for their own brand of tyres though) :

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/products/...um-tread-depth/

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/products/...ratings-labels/
“Safety is a result of overall performance, not just tread depth," said Roget. "Our tyres are designed to work right down to 1.6mm. As a result, we tell our customers that they shouldn’t replace Michelin tyres until they reach the limit. Sadly not all tyres perform in this same way. That's why we want to see a new rating system and performance standard for worn tyres."

I guess for those on michelin tyres, you can stretch your wallet further to compensate for their slightly more expensive tyres. thumbup.gif

Noted. Learnt something new. Thanks.

I would have still changed it cos:
1) Toyota had promo at that time & it was slightly cheaper compared to what my regular shop can sell to me.
2) Tyres were approximately 3.5 years old.
3) Handling was not as good as before. Maybe it's just me. Wife mentioned the ride & handling is better after fitting on the new tyres.

Thank you for learning about UK 1989 legislation on minimum tyre thread depth at 1.6 mm.

I read that this tyre have treadwear indicator. Where and how to check?

I know the 20 or 50 cent rules but I want to know how to check with the treadwear indicator.

just checked back, have to turn the wheel all the way to have a proper look.
xm2 does have the platform and antenna thingy in the main tread.

i assume the indicator is the platform? if the platform is same level as the tread then its time to change (based on treadwear)?
if like that my tread is still double of the platform height. been using it like 4-5 years now.

Okay. Thanks for pointing out. But the wear at side, is still looking at the main tread right? I think xm2 has at least 3 deep tread.

There are still people buying XM2?

I personally feel this tyre is over priced and outdated. Michelin had not revise this model since 2011.

185/60/R15 or 195/55/R15 if your rim fits.
185/65 diameter will be oversized, more than 2% limit

IMO, don't get Firestone as it's very very rare in here and not much review...
Alternatively, you can go for Yokohama Bluearth ES32, I'm using this with size 185/60/R15. It's silent tyre with OK gripping on wet which I think fares better than XM2 in these 2 aspect.

Just sharing. 175/65R15 XM2 quoted by Wah Hoe Tyre Services in Taman Mayang Jaya, SS26/11, PJ at RM205 per donut. If buy 4 pieces together, installation+balancing+alignment+rubber valves included. I personally changed to Yokohama BluEarth ES32 just yesterday.

Most tyre shops would say change every two Years! They need business correct? I got a spare which is a csc5, three years Liao! Wonder if it is still usable? Such a waste!
*
They will ask u to change even if its lots of thread left! Saying it is too hard la, etc...then they take ur tyre for free and resell it to others for 2nd hand or if urs is Michelin they will just send it to a rethread tyre shop and make money at your expense!

tyre production date year 2015.
already use for 45000 km....
found out got some crack line at the surface area...this consider normal ??

i'm planning to change my tyre every 4~5 year even still got lot of thread left....
Is 4~5 year too late or too early?

Don't worry about minor hairline cracks around tyre tread edges lah ...
A tyre in use is meant for 10 years post production or residual 1.6 mm thread depth.
Mine was like 6 years usage at 115,000 km.

Front and back also the same condition.
I believe that all Michelin tyres will be in the same state after use for more than 3 years.
As i have seen it on other of their tyres too. Common issue where the rubber harden. Due to our weather.

Already change them. That is the thing with the XM2 actually. After using them for 2-3 years, our weather makes the compound harder, and then it will be prone to cracking.

That is a point of concern for me to change it quick.
Other than that no issues.

My tyres already 2 years plus with around 40k km on it. I always do rotation, balancing and alignment every 10k km also looks like this so i think it is not related. So far the grip still quite ok in dry and wet like u said.

This is all due to our hot climate.. the cracks are known as tyre rot.. they develop due to the rubber compounds being constantly exposed to extremes of heat and road chemicals in conjunction with uv rays, these all contribute to the cracking

I wonder why so many user here likes XM2. I previously had these tyres and its bad. Hard, noisy, expensive but long lasting.

There are many other tyres which are cheaper and can perform better than XM2.

The XM2 is really an old obsolete tyre which is in dire need of a replacement.

Don't because its Michelin and it is a good tyre.. For this case, it isn't.

All tyre shop will recommend XM2 to everyone looking for premium brand for B segment car, unless customer specifically mention want "budget". Many of my friends went for it even-though I recommended other such as Hankook V12 Evo2 and "bash" XM2 is hard and noisy. All their answer is tyre shop said Michelin XM2 is very good and trusted brand yo whistling.gif

It's value for money, for me.
With 2 mm residual thread depth, it ran 115k km over 6 year usage and I got good fuel consumption from it ,albeit with 40-44 psi inflation pressure.

Then yes, it is value for money dry.gif
For me I would stay far away from XM2 due to its bad braking performance especially in the wet.

Maybe you should try other eco tyres.
Had these almost from the start of driving my new myvi 10 years back.
On the 14 inch wheels, it only gave 10km per litre. Gave them up at 54k km because of the severe chipping on the tread face.
Went to 15 inch wheels and to Yokohama Blueearths and that gave 12km per litre! And that excludes the slight increment in tyre circumference also.
Both sets of tyres were run at 33 psi, no need to blow them up super hard and shrink the contact patch and ruin the ride.
So yeah, Michelin xm2, noisy and hard.

I would recommend the Yokohama over the Xm2.
Before i sold the myvi 1.3 ezi, i had just put a new set of Hankook Kinergy on but did less than 10k km on it so can't really form an overall opinion on the Hankook. FC remained more or less the same.
Maybe even an wheel size upgrade or at least to a lighter set of 14 inch wheels because the stock wheels are very heavy. All up to your budget, really.
