I bought a Himedia Q5 Pro from Nicety about 2 weeks ago. I find Nicety has good understanding of the product and is able to provide help very well. Throughout the deal, he has shown good commitment and follow-up. A good seller indeed.

So far Q5 Pro has delivered what it is supposed to. However as I was installing more and more apps, the 8G storage gets filled up very quickly. I have a 8G micro SD card installed on the box but I was unable to move the installed apps to the SD card. Every time after I clicked the move to SD card button, everything looks alright. But on restart the app is not moved at all. Would appreciate if someone can throw some light on these questions:

1. Can apps be moved to the SD Card (jist like in mobile phone)?
2. If apps cannot be moved, how can I remove some of the big apps such as Facebook, Chrome, Skype and Youtube? (I tried uninstalling them but somehow they always get re-installed after restart).
*
From my experience so far ...

1.
Yes and no. For some apps yes and for some apps no. You can tell whether you can move it or not by looking at the "move to SD" option in the middle of the screen. For the ones you cannot move, it will be grey out, ie, inactive.

When you move to SD, must give it time to complete the task. Don't just click on the move button and do something else.

2.
I have not encountered this. Maybe need to do this at a higher system level. Check the web on how to remove Facebook from android TV box.

Initially I thought I would be facing problems with smaller GB in Q5 as I was using H8 with twice the GB. But so far OK.

Suggest setting up in Kodi first and use apps outside Kodi if you cannot get them in Kodi. Why? Find that external apps are generally big and thus eat up your GB. Apps inside Kodi are generally smaller as Kodi already has the basic functions in there and Kodi apps do not have to include these in their programs.

Need to do some GB cleaning now and then. Just click on the 1st button at the bottom row when you start Q5 (the one with the broom picture).

Good luck!

Thank you @plumberly and @nicety for sharing your experience and knowledge on the product. They are very reassuring. I will continue exploring this wonderful gadget and learn new things along the way. Hopefully later on I can share what I learn in this forum

No problem.

2 more tips

AA
Get a sub woofer if you don't have one yet. It will give your movie watching and concert enjoyment to another level. Really.

BB
Try 9GAG in Kodi. Forgot where I got that now. Excellent, updated daily showing the latest funny, sad, exciting, sexy etc video clips.

Firmware 108 is latest stable firmware. As usual I don't recommend to update firmware if your box and apps are running well.

The next firmware update will be direct jump from Android 5 to Android 7. Please be patient, the first version of Android 7 has lot of bugs, please wait for the next version. I will test thoroughly before recommend to our customers.

But very important is Himedia has Android 7 roadmap for Q5 Pro and Q10 Pro, your future proof is guaranteed.

Noted and many thanks!

Happy New Year 2017 to all the Himedia kaki here!

Nicety,

Like to know whether the latest Himedia firmware update will not have the default Facebook and Skype apps installed.

Annoying for those who do not use these on TV box. They take up a few hundred MB space!

Suggest to Himedia to do without these default apps? Maybe they get some fee from FB and Skype for setting them as default.

Thanks.

Sorry bro, Facebook and Skype still the default apps preinstalled by firmware and could not uninstall.

Q5 pro and Q10 Pro are Futeko.com focus products,  they have large order volume with Himedia, Q5 and Q10 pro oversea version are designed base on Futeko requirement, Himedia will not remove it as well as Futeko need that.

Added Genesis Reborn. In the progress of fine tuning and testing. Due to time constraint, I was unable to test all the addons. Will finalise by today and upload to skydrive by tomorrow.
*
Thanks.

Tried to install Genesis Reborn but got failed error. Can only run on Android 17?

Look forward to your latest skydrive wonders!

good for 16.1 and 17.1.

there are 2 ways to get it:
this way, u must wait a couple of minutes after installing script and message done before u install the plugin.
https://tutorial-iptv-xbmc.blogspot.my/2017...addon-repo.html

or u can try this new repo method.

Dear Customers,

Kodi 17.1 config file already uploaded.
Superbox skin no longer support by Kodi 17. I have replace with closer skin "Mimic".

For Q5 and Q10 Pro box, please double check Wrapper setting to ensure the setting use Kodi player not external player.
*
Thanks.

Please clarify "double check Wrapper setting to ensure the setting use Kodi player not external player".

I am having problems in watching movies etc. Have to use the other player to watch news etc. Cannot play movies.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I read that this wrapper thing has been set from firmware 1.0.5 on wards while my Q5 Pro has 1.0.9 version.

Downloaded it from http://www.mediafire.com/download/00rvha2a...628_Release.apk

Now installed and running fine.

Suggest to include the wrapper apps in your Onedrive for those who do not have in their Himedia.

BB
Thought Android can be upgraded for Q5 and 10 Pro. Mine is still 5.1 version. OK to upgrade my Q5 Pro to 7?

Thanks.

Used Nicety's onedrive files to update my Kodi.

Nicety has pre-installed a number of add-ons (many apps are available in the onedrive folder as well).

Found this Spotify Tube Nicety has installed in Kodi. Find it very good, music and videos. Even they are Latino, Spanish songs and I don't understand a single word, I like the music, the beats and also the sexy girls. Ha.

Best is to line it up to your AVR and the music will be even better. Glad that I bought the subwoofer to get the music a deeper bass.

Try it and enjoy! Nicety, thanks!

Hi,
I am using Q5 pro with android 7 futeko 2.0.1 and kodi 17.1. Watching 1080p movie is very choopy and jittery. My old M3 is much better and smoother. Wrapper is already set to kodi video player. My M3 is without wrapper instal.
*
I got a similar choppy problem though I am still with Android 5.1 and Kodi 17.1

Learnt later that was due to my setting on the 2 hardware acceleration. Switch that off and see.

Good luck.

Did you follow these steps from Nicety?

Firmware upgrade from Settings Menu (user data will not be cleared)
(see his Onedrive for the steps)
