Just received my Q5II today.
For JB buyers, please be informed that it will take upto 7 days from the delivery date before your item reached, this is due to change in working day for Pos Office services in JOHOR since 1st Jan 2014. Seller has been giving constant follow-up and excellent response to my enquirers, thumbs up for him!
I will definitely buy from him should I need another box.

Hi,

I bought q5ii from TS few weeks ago.
I am using wifi connection to my internet router.
The default 1.0.3 firmware has problem below:

1. sound quality is not good, too soft for some movies and TV series.
( I am using optical cable to my HiFi set)

2. Playback and sound from HiTV online source is lagging and suffer serious buffering problem, change to cable connection still the same.
The sound setting kept return to default volume whenever the unit was switch on the next time.

3. You tube can't playback, i think it's a bug
4. Airplay failed
5. XBMC playback from online source is lagging

After I updated to 1.0.4 via online update.
1. sound playback quality improved significantly. Sound level return to default volume problem still remain.
2. Playback and lagging from HiTV online source problem resolved. Very smooth no buffering anymore. Hurray!

but
3. Youtube problem remain
4. Airplay still failed.
5. XBMC problem remain.
6. Connect to smb share from my NAS kept failing, have to try few times.

Firmware online update is damn slow, 1% progress took 5 mins, and the entire firmware image is about 300M, I spent upto 5 hours for the update. I recommend to download and do the force update method. However, I do notice download speed from himedia site also slow, about 20kbps only. I am using 5Mbps line.

I find that picture playback quality from Realtek 1073DD based player is much better than this unit, especially on the color. Realtek chipset reproduce a much subtle and near to real life color, while this unit has tendency to output red color which is too bright. In term of the handling of contrast and brightness, Realtek chipset is way better, this unit will have odd color output if the image contrast is too high.

I have some questions:
1. what is the rom size for q5ii?
2. what is the ram size?
3. can we move all apps to SDCARD?
4. which SDCARD supported, full size or micro-SD?
5. How do we use the Himedia remote to learn the TV and AV remote control? I have way too many remote control to juggle around...

hi seller,

newbie here , i'm interested with Himedia Q-ii series.. may I ask,

1. What about the "DTS/AC3" sound codec, does the Q5ii & Q10-ii able to decode it? (I Read about the Audio format...mp3, aac...etc, but it did not specify that audio codec), or is it this one ?
----> DTS-HDMA and TRUEHD 7.1 PassThrough Support
DTS and AC3 works with my Sony decoder. My decoder doesn't have HDMI pass thru, so I use optical cable connect from Q5II to the decoder.
DTS and AC3 requires HDMI or optical cable to work, normal RCA cable unable to handle the amount of data flow requires by these audio format.
My decoder unable to do 7.1, so I am unable to answer that. Anyone can help?

Hi nicety. After going through the reviews, I found fast forward/rewind option is missing on the remote.

Is there any time-search function from the remote or how it can be done?
*
I dun think got time search. Alternatively, you can try dragging the timeline when you pause the video playback.
There is a timeline bar appear at the bottom screen, you can use the right button at remote control try forward or backward.
Not very convenient i know, but that's my finding with Himedia remote control so far.

I downloaded the firmware, with file name:update_dualcore_Q5_en.zip and save into root directory of the usb flash drive and connect to usb port 1 of the unit.
Using restore method, I try to update to 1.0.5, but it shows error.
The unit did not updated.
When I try to browse for USB flash drive in file manager apps, I can't find it.
It shows, USB-C, when I click on it, it shows all the files in the unit flash memory rather than files in the USB flash drive.

finally using upgrade from firmware upgrade page manage to upgrade my unit to 1.0.5 version d/l from nicety one drive.
I have to use sdcard only the unit able to find the updated firmware. Good thing updated from this method, most of apps still there, woohoo!

Rebooted fine.
1. Now I am able to find my usb from file manager!
2. Mango TV playback lag
2. Youtube apps (double click installed from my sdcard backup) playback not fixed.

Mango TV got "我是歌手2“,too bad the playback is very lag!
By the way, I backup my apps into the sdcard, but apps backup doesn't let me have option to restore from my sdcard, how then...?

Sigh...! Waiting for better firmware release.

Is anyone else here facing lag issues when streaming HD movies online in XBMC? I've tired everything I can, even resetting my Q5 to the bare minimum without any apps. When streaming SD movies, there is no issue however HD 720/1080 lags terribly. I doubt its my network as I have XBMC installed on my PC and it plays HD movies flawlessly. Even on my mobile phone connected to wifi streaming HD movies online has no issues.

Hope someone can share any solution? Or is it hardware related? BTW im streaming using Mashup HD Movies link on my Q5 II
*
HiSilicon chip used in Q5ii doesn't support hardware decoding required by XBMC Frodo to decode 720p and above movies.
Wait for XBMC Gotham maybe can work.
Only default Himedia player able to do hardware decode via local sources, such as network, usb.
NIcety probably could highlight to Himedia support ont his issue.

Try using your mouse near the unit and see if the cursor can move.

Hi,

After updated with 1.0.6 chinese firmware to Q5ii nand version, updated with google play patch. Update via force update method

I have problem below:
1. Resumed playback from network drive failed, have to start from beginning only works, otherwise the whole thing just hang there, black screen.
2. Youtube problem still not resolved like 1.0.5

I am now trying to force update with previous version 1.0.5 english firmware hope I can get back the wonderful experience with video playback I had before.

Anyone having this problem with 1.0.6 chinese firmware? The interface looks good, Mango TV too, but too bad the problem with local playback.

Apparently, Himedia will force you to update to 1.0.6 firmware after I have flashed with 1.0.5. no choice but to stay with 1.0.6 at the moment.

HI all,

I think the resume problem got something to do with the video file, I am still trying to figure out why, and found out more info about the video codec used in the affacted mkv file.

Youtube problem I have to use the version from nicety or the version comes with this firmware, latest version from playstore won't work, according to nicety latest youtube apps might not work with all android TV box. Funny though, it is working fine with all tablets, Ipad, cheapo chinese tablet as well, maybe Android TV box has a different design.

Anyway I have flashed with 3rd party 1.0.5 firmware because this version stop the online update prompt, I am still thinking of updated with 1.0.6 chinese firmware version from nicety.

Nevertheless, thanks again to nicety for the fantastic after sales service

Something else to share. If you plan to use force update, please remove all SDacrd, wireless mouse dongle, leave only the USB drive in the USB port, else the unit will complain update failed.
You can also do the update from system, update menu, select the drive letter that contain the update file, I tried this method for few times it always keep all my apps intact, however it will cause conflicts if major update is involved, so the force update method is still the safest.

HI

I'm new to this, need your advise. I'm looking a smart tv device which can play astro channels and other free streaming tv programs including world cup 2014...

Thanks

Those claim to tap on ASTRO program will very soon running out of service. ASTRO spend millions in buying copyright from overseas licensee, dun think they will turn blind eye on privacy problem.
