Actually not true. I have personally tested flashing from the China version to english version and back to china version. All the firmware is from Himedia website. And there is google play on both firmware version. I am talking for 1.0.3

No need to do that. You can straight flash it to either China or English version.

If you are currently on English firmware, you need to rename your Chinese firmware zip file name exactly as "update_dualcore_Q5_en.zip". This will allow you to flash it.

Vice versa if you are currently on Chinese firmware. You will need to rename you English firmware to "update_dualcore_Q5.zip" This will allow you to cross flash between diff type.

Keep in mind I have only tested this for the 1.0.3 version. I have no idea what will happen if you flash between diff version.

As usual, I am not responsible if anyone brick their device. I just telling my own experience.

For download, try to use a download program that can do multiple mirror download. For the china firmware, 1 link only support about 20-30kbps as far as i can see. But combine of 4 stream at once I got about 100+ kbps easy on my 1Mbps line. Maybe more for you since you are unifi.

For english firmware speed its not a problem, as far as i can see.

Not sure if this is the same for you guys. But here is my findings regarding XBMC.

I am on firmware 1.0.3. I tested XMBC 12.2 "Frodo"

the playercorefactory.xml is broken here...

the solution is to use a non official version with a fix. unfortunately this xbmc is not under 12.2 and is based under the newer alpha xbmc 13. hence, it is unstable and some add on is broken.

I not sure if this playercorefactory.xml issue is a xbmc issue or a himedia firmware issue. i suspect its the later.

on a side note, they have integrated libstagefright library into xbmc 13... this allow for the internal player to use the hardware acceleration. I've tested this on 720p and 1080p vid. It buggy and sometimes will cause xbmc to crash. But when it work, it works very nicely. I am looking forward to this very much...

Are you using the nightly builds?
Can it even load without forceclose
*
The author compile it from the nightly i believe... but i tested it, it seems stable except for the broken add on. its not the bleeding edge one.. so its less prone to crash...

Here :

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=175341

I might consider going back to this build soon.. I will need to study more on it when I find the time.

Anyone manage to root their Q5II with 1.0.3 firmware? The current way on 1st page is not working.

I might have a theory on a way to play samba share folder with himedia but i need root to do it...

Bro, still not manage to root Q5II yet.

You cannot stream from Samba shared folder? Samba client is build in Q5II as well as the samba daemon available in Q5II.

tongue.gif I'm trying to get himedia player to play via smb in xbmc

Ok, you mean Samba client in xBMC.

Don't put too much effort in xBMC, the native Himedia media is capable to do samba and nfs including resume movies if you half way watching.

We have tested some samba client unable to resume MKV movies but Himedia native no problem.
*
laugh.gif its quite fun for me..

I have a general idea how himedia video player is able to play samba file. Following their way, I am able to play any file using Himedia player without using their "Samba" interface... with this, i can now link my xbmc to my NAS and get play back using himedia player (also works for mxplayer). Both mxplayer and himedia player can now play my samba share without a problem.

Previously, it only works for local playback.

But currently its not perfect yet, without root, I need to perform one additional step everytime i boot up my himedia...

Hi,did you mean after q5 completely boot up,you just click himedia smb interface to your smb share once, and himedia will create your smb share on local path as a folder, then you just link this path within your xbmc?is it this way you did?

Actually it's very easy:

1.download from above web site i posted earlier,you got 海美迪Q5-II Root.rar
2.turn on you Q5 and get it's ip address afterwards leave it on
3.Please make sure Q5 and PC are on same local network...
4.extract Q5-II root.rar to your pc desktop,double click on 海美迪Q5-II Root.exe,on my wins 7 it's
just display garbled codes, anyways you just keys in your Q5 ip adress like:192.168.1.xxx then press ENTER,wait until its finish
5.maybe you need to reboot your Q5 afterwards, check for superman-android like logo,it is supersu
6.download root checker from play store if it is proper root.

Please note:
1.If you cannot root it 1st time, you may need to kill adb.exe in task manager or reboot your pc or redownload archive and try again
2.you might need to temporary shut down your pc's firewalls or antivirus, because ADB use port 5555 to communicate with Q5
3.Try to use hard wire, avoid wireless...
4.you should check with nicety this was actually void warrenty if you have purchased from nicety?
5.Lastly i am NOT responsible for any loss or damage to your device tongue.gif ,I am just sharing what i found...

By the way,I root my Q5 II just to mount my NAS NFS share on boot up automatically,so i can use it with xbmc tongue.gif there is
unnecessary to root if you are just normal user...
*
laugh.gif I have the exact same Idea as you tongue.gif that is why I needed the root. Thanks for the translation. You are still using 1.0.2? I just afraid the procedure won't wont on 1.0.3 which I have right now...

Thank you so much for your root tip. Now I have manage to do exactly what I wanted. I prepared a small script to run at boot up to mount the directory automatically.

I couldn't find an app to do the mount for me.

Did you use an app or a script to auto mount it?

I use script manager too. laugh.gif

mind share me your script? I am outside my house now, but when I am home I will try to share the script I wrote with you guys. Its just a 3 line shell script without any checking. Maybe I will write and add more function to it later as I needed.

Thank you very much bro. Was excited to see your sharing in the last , hope more Q series buyer could share more here especially the streaming information. If anyone found any interesting xBMC addon, apps or web site contain good movies, pls share it here.

Himedia has mentioned that rooted device will void the warranty. Strongly recommend all buyer to root the device if and only if really needed, and capable to unroot any time.
*
Yup, this I agree. If you don't need to, don't root. I never worked on Android before, but I just realized with root + ADB, you can gain remote access without any password. Scary shit. I am actually trying to find a way to disable ADB on Himedia, but has thus fail. The developer option has been taken off the setting menu. Maybe I will do a port block on my router side as a temporary workaround.

Thank you so much bro. Sincerely appreciated your sharing, keep it up  rclxms.gif

In the past, I am use to find technical solution from the oversea forum but I never contribute any solution or share my info in the forum. Therefore I decided to do it differently and share as much as I could in the forum. Surprisingly, my customers also share back the information with me in return. At the end I am benefit from it as well.

I hope I could encourage the sharing concept among the Malaysian, to build the knowledge base. I noticed some oversea Himedia users read this thread as well. Hope more ppl could benefit from this thread in order to maximize the functionality of the box.

Once again, thank you very much for your sharing. Btw, pm me your email, I should have your record in my database.
*
Mind to share the Himedia forum overseas? Thx

Bro, you get me wrongly. I used to obtain technical soulution from oversea forum including Oracle, Cisco, IBM EMC, RedHat and etc.

There is no official oversea Himedia forum in English, only China Himedia forum in mandarin.

http://bbs.himedia-tech.cn/forum.php?forumlist=1&mobile=no

Therefore I wish to made this thread informative and share with anyone could not read Chinese.

Thanks. That is exactly what I looking for. I know it's sure is in mandarin. I will just Google translate it where I can. Just want to get some idea on the things they mod.
