am i right in thinking all Samba / SMB play back from an SMB share is borked in current firmwares for the q5/q10II?

I am having significant issues with this the only way I can do it is through es explorer or for iso dvd files through xmbc?

Are you confused by the below topic #1216 ?

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2598907/+1215

The SMB client could be found under MediaCenter -> LAN. Beside SMB, it support NFS and UPNP as well.

Of course if you installed ES Explorer, you have another option to access to SMB shared.

I just response your PM. First I need to understand further your SMB server(deamon) works. Are you using NAS or Windows file sharing? Please PM me further detail.

I have installed a version of 1.0.5 from a link i found in chinnese himedia Facebook Web Page, in my q5ii nand .There two versions with different interface mango or 1.0.2 firmware style. I have installed the second and it has YouTube working and also Google play. The size is 355mb,not 268 mb as in the first 1.0.5 posted in himedia forum 2 weeks ago . If someone has emmc a beta 1.0.6 has improved 3d playback for comfortable viewing, that if it is true it will be nice because I find 3d playback from q5ii a lot worse than 3d from pc.

SOLUTION TO PLAY ANYTHING YOU WANT ON YOUR Q5/10 FROM XBMC INCLUDING NETWORK DRIVE SHARES!!!

ok so I never managed to get SMB shares working even with the native player. in the early hours of this morning, getting very frustrated, I started looking at NFS instead

This workaround led me to a nice discovery, I can now play anything I like over drive shares using either the native player OR xbmc

you do need to be rooted [but whats the point in having a non rooted android device anyway?

So you need to install NFS on the host computer(s), mine is a 64bit xp machine so I had to hunt around a little for good software. (ms dont support it on 64bit xp)

I settled on http://www.hanewin.net/

it is 20usd but has a 30 day trial and paypal payment smile.gif so far the trial is working great looks like i'll be purchasing!!!

simply add the shares you want in the exports tab and you're golden, I also checked 'allow mount of remote devices' under the server tab.

there are a number of benefits to this over smb :-

1. its a faster protocol
2. kernel support for mounting is native (*nix rather than windows)
3. this makes it v. easy to mount as a drive options that worked for me were nolock,ro,hard,intr,vers=3

mounting as a drive makes anything you want available over any media player you might wish to use, on your q5/q10II (though testing so far the native one is the best anyway. though of course you can just set up nfs as a source in xbmc and this works for all file types.

I was even able to run a full blue ray over wifi (a little stuttery but still watchable!!)

if you are not comfortable with linux mount commands (dont forget busybox wink.gif ) then mount manager or script manager might be the best option for you!!

This way you can use profiles in xbmc to control access for kids etc etc all the other benefits of xbmc.

So there you go everyone enjoy!!! rclxms.gif

Ok so anyone know what it was I did to get flash working in the native browser only messing with this I default reset my box and borked whatever I did that got it working? I have dolphin so its not a disaster but even so.....

Oh and how to remove the the default setting on the laucher? clear defaults is greyed out so it must always remain the default launcher which is very annoying I much prefer apex. Anyone have any ideas?

Also is there any newer version of xbmc with support for the native player? i got the 12.2 version from this forum?

OH AND BIG UP'S TO NICETY for his help despite me not being a direct customer!!!

Still bemused by SMB but this is more elegant solution any way, go me biggrin.gif

Can I get a copy? or do you have instructions for setting up any version with the himedia player?

or do I just need to trawl through the xbmc forums?

by the way did you like my solution? was pretty pleased with it myself smile.gif

still have no idea why smb is borked but I have a better solution with this I think

The official xBMC website offer Frodo 12.3. http://xbmc.org/download/

NFS is the common practice in UNIX/LINUX world or even NAS, definitely the NFS solution is better then SMB. By the way, do you test movies auto resume when stream via NFS?

Thank you bro, tested 7PO. Very good Apps Store.

Info to share
Because China banned Google, GooglePlay Store is not available in China. Therefore few Apps Store were developed in China, 7PO is one of them.

Have tested the Q5 II extensively for like the past 2 months.

During which these times mostly have been trying out XBMC which is great. The single biggest gripe however is the constant getting kicked out of movie in the middle of watching. Have tried suggested fixes by Bro nicety such as upgrading from XBMC 12.2 to 12.3, seems better but still happens. Have also tried starting iStream from Videos instead of from the iStream in the menu, but still happens.

Sportsdevil and Sports-a-holic are great for watching live EPL, but they are not spared the kickout to the menu problem. But sometimes is it not easy to find a good stream.

Other than that, some of the default channels have started going down as well in the LiveTV that came with the Himedia firmware, I am currently on HMD-1.0.3, hopefully that gets fixed soon!

As per feedback from my customers, to have stable XBMC you may install the XBMC with only addon that you are interested and avoid Wizard which installed tons of addon which you do not required.

Yes mate the mounted drives do just fine even after rebooting the q10 and remounting the nfs drives

they even seem to resume by going back via the nfs menu rather than mounted drives, I have tested this extensively just a quick few to answer your question

Thanks for helping to test the auto mounted. What about the movie resume to the last watch time(via NFS)? Meaning that you watch half way the movie and stop or shutdown the device. Then next startup you can resume to the time you stop. I have tested SMB works but no chance for NFS yet.

P/S : Highly appreciated all forumer who contribute back after obtain the info from this thread.

Yes it all seems to work either way, as I said I haven't tested it extensively but seems like it doesn't matter a reboot, play something else, then resume no problem. NFS or mounted.

so far I highly recommend the http://www.hanewin.net/ nfs server software should work on any windows pc 30 day trial and only $20
